    I've never successfully grown large sweet bell peppers here in Florida, not even those that are supposedly more heat tolerant. I'm happy to hear a professional like Elise confirming it wasn't just me. For sweet peppers I have had great luck with the mini-bells (right on red, orange you sweet, yes to yellow), the snacking peppers (lunchbox red, orange, yellow), Italian frying peppers such as Corno di Toro (Carmen and Escamillo) and Cornitos (Rosso and Giallo).

      Have you tried growing them in a greenhouse? I wonder if it would help to grow in fall instead. I am going to try a few different ways over the next few years and see if I can get some sort of decent yield. Growing in the south is a whole new experience for me.

    Carmen pepper has given me 30-100 peppers per plant , and I leave them in full sun in the middle of florida. That's one to try , they are very sweet.

    I have Aji Dulce and Arroz con Pollo (6 or 7 year old plant still producing) they are used as seasoning peppers. For stir fries I grow Carmen and Cubanelle , they grow very well in the summer heat and produce a lot.

      You should ge able to find growing schedules online for your region!

    • @DC-rd6oq
      @DC-rd6oq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jichaelmorgan3796 I'm in the FL panhandle, with weather very similar to Gulf Shores, AL. It isn't the growing schedule. It's the extreme heat, humidity and often torrential downpours. And if you're growing in-ground vs raised beds or containers, it's the sandy soil. It's an entirely different ball-game than gardening elsewhere, and most problems have very little to do with the first or last frost date.

    • @jichaelmorgan3796
      @jichaelmorgan3796 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DC-rd6oq I'm in South Florida so I totally agree with you. Learning to grow anything in Florida is a different game but there are growing schedules for the south/Florida that do help and give a starting point. But yeah, expect to be tripped up for sure.
      I'm not an advanced garderner by any means so I do my gardening from end of September until April as rain won't be a big problem during that time. The absolute most important thing I've learned is to keep pretty much everything out of direct sun, that is besides Florida or tropical natives anyway. My entire garden is next to our pool screen where probably about 50% of the sun is filtered out all day long, as this side of the screen is going from east to west and this time of year the Sun is slightly South, due to the tilt of the Earth, so IOW the sunlight is going through both the top and side of the screen before it hits my modest garden. I've had success growing even lettuce this way after I previously thought that I would bever succeed in my goal of a having home grown salads a few times a week during this time of year. :)

    Just got an order from you. Do you know when you will have seeds for the peppers you speak of? They look like they are all sold out. I finally figured out how to grow peppers, but I have to constantly spray them with copper and also started using an insecticide (organic). It gets lots of holes on the leaves from I’m not sure what. I had good success though with the ones I planted last fall in pots and put them in green house in the freezing temps (ocala) and I have 5 or 6 plants that made it through. They are still producing and even planted some of them in the garden. The other ones I started from seed and planted at the end of Feb. are growing slowly and are experiencing the holes in the leaves I mentioned. It will be interesting to see how they do. Thankfullly my garden don’t get afternoon sun.
