Hello Ry, Highbury was my favourite ground in London, but these days it’s The Cottage for me. It was Henry Norris who tried to merge Fulham and Arsenal as he was chairman of both clubs. He moved Woolwich Arsenal to Highbury and appointed Herbert Chapman as Manager. He passed away in 1934 and his grave is close to Craven Cottage at Richmond & East Sheen Cemetery.
Craven Cottage is such a beautiful old ground. I always loved going there, There is something magical about this old ground, sitting on the bank of the Thames.
I started going to see Fulham around 1994-96, at one point we were about 90th out of the 4 divisions and the attendance was about 2,500...tonight i am off to the Cottage for the Carabou Semi Final against Liverpool... Things have certainly changed over the years 😎✌️
Hello, Ry. Glad you liked it. Me and my family have been in that place for well over 100 years, my first game was early ‘74. There were times when it looked bleak for the future, but here we are with the stadium looking lovely. It’s not always about results, especially with Fulham, but being at the Cottage has been the mainstay of all our lives. You Whites!
Love the old stadiums for atmosphere.Started following Spurs in 78 when we were in the 2nd division.I miss standing in the Shelf being packed to the rafters. Coys.
Lovely ground, I went there to watch Southend Utd away in the late 90's when Keegan was in the early days of his stint in charge of Fulham. It's changed a bit so I might have to book a tour as I can't see Southend go there anytime soon. I think that I can remember an old air raid shelter under what was the uncovered terrace by the park, the walk from the tube station to the ground was great, probably my fave ground to have visited and I loved the old style features which have thankfully been saved from demolition. Well done on a great video.
Great video, craven cottage was uncovered on 3 sides right up to 1967,as was selhurst park up to 1969.airdrieonians in scotland had a similar pavilion to the cottage at their old broomfield ground, sadly demolished in 1994...
My first prem club I went to was Fulham. And I had the chance to watch them Villarreal friendly in the summer 2022 and is still the most visited London club. I’m very fond of this club and its stadium. I’m journeyman myself and have watched game in every London club from league 2 to prem. as of now only left are Sutton utd and qpr.
It's The Hammersmith End (Hammy End). I'm a season ticket holder in this stand. The Hammersmith End is/has the best atmosphere in the ground. Great video and you've done us proud! COYW!
That was a brilliant insight into one of England's most traditional football clubs. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos. When I stumbled across it earlier, I must admit, seeing it was 30 minutes long almost made me not watch (most of the ones I see are approx 15 mins), but I'm really glad I did watch it. Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful ground, not what I was expecting….there’s a lot to be said for teams like Fulham who seem to have blended their history and the old with the new demands of the Premiership….lovely architecture and love the wooden seats! I’d forgotten about the links with Jimmy Hill!
Hi Ry, I enjoyed this video & I appreciate it’s designed to be an in-depth historical stadium tour targeted at Fulham fans primarily. However as just a football fan I felt inpatient watching this video & 30mins is quite a chunk of time. craven cottage and Goodison Park..both must visits as Iconic Edwardian stadiums. be quick for Goodison as Everton are in the final season there since 1892. they too will overlook a river like fulham. craven Cottage is beautiful.
Best riverside view is the City Ground by a country mile..the open terraced river embankment and view from Trent Bridge blows everybody away when first viewed... Riverside pubs and next to a Test Ground.
We had a lovely badge before we first went into the premier League when it was changed for marketing uses, the club tried to tell us we couldn't keep the badge as it belonged to Hammersmith council but this was a lie. The new badge was probably drawn by a five year old, it needs reverting back as it was class.

Al Fayed made the ground beautiful, except the view from the river. He even made it worse by adding a statue of Michael Jackson in his latter years. The view was terrible before Khan built a new stand and removed the statue. From a Barnes resident

Wednesday supporter here. I love Hillsborough even though it is old school. Archibald Leitch designed our original South Stand when it was still at Olive Grove. When we were granted Hillsborough, the stand was dismantled and rebuilt on its new location. Since has been revamped but keeping the original detail. Grateful the Kop was covered, shame about the supports. Spent many Saturdays freezing to death in the snow and rain on it. North stand still lovely if you are a small person. I'm female, 170 cm, have to mansplain. How most men manage, idk. If Wednesday ever have the cash, please sort out the West Stand. So not great for away fans. We have lost the north west corner. Why? Still love Hillsborough. I have happy, and some less than happy memories. There is sadness, 1989. This must be honoured. We're all Wednesday, aren't we!
After Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs, Newcastle, Celtic, Sunderland, Rangers, Brighton, Everton, Arsenal, Villa and Sheff Wed, Fulham's probably the best football stadium in the UK! Before it burned down, the original Cottage was built in 1724 - before Beethoven was born! The current one was finished in 1896. Everything in the Stevenage Road Stand (the steps, wooden seats, poles and bricks) has been there since 1905! Without Reading, the Midlands, Scotland, Wales and North England, Fulham would be the oldest pro club on Earth! In October, Fulham fans sat in the same away end 4-time European champions Ajax had just three days prior. Brighton beat Ajax 2-0, but drew 1-1 with Fulham three days later! It speaks volumes about how far the club have come since the 4th-tier dark days of the late 90s.
That stand is the Hammersmith (hammy) end. Also don’t be fooled by that part of the river, it’s filthy as and probably dirtier than central london as the sewer overflow is prevalent in Barnes, Putney and Fulham

Prefer the old ones and don't like the new ones as much you should visit Hillsborough stadium 🏟️
Definitely high on the list mate 😉
Thanks mate
Wednesday fan here. Love Hillsborough, always will. Even so, I wonder if we will have to move in order to keep up with the times. You can get to it on the Supertram but parking is impossible. I come from out of town and use the train. Live in Leicester, thank God for Midland Mainline.

You are going to Hillsborough?
