We have similar methodology depending on the size/brand/image.
    1. Sort out the edge pieces
    2. Sort out piles of pieces by color or feature
    3. Sort pieces by shape as you start new section/piles
    4. I have several graduating sizes of boxes.
    A. large tray made from the side of a flat screen TVs box. Very sturdy and perfect for initial sorting of 2000 piece puzzles
    B. Smaller cardboard tray 3’x 2’ ish
    C. Smaller white plastic sorting trays bought on Amazon for puzzlers
    D. Wooden Trays that are part of the puzzle board bought from Amazon
    5. Once completed, I put edges into ziplock bag and place it on top of the box of pieces (helps when donating puzzles to nursing homes) and tape it closed
    6. I use the poster if included. I made a stand up display from foam board
    7. Buy foam core project boards and tape it together to use for 2000 piece puzzles.

@@FortniteVince , do the same things and be more patient, as well as have both the time, as well as the space, to build them, I guess.

A tip i might add is the fact that most puzzles and their piece cuts will line up piece to piece, so that the end product will make horizontal and vertical lines in the cut. With that knowledge, sorting by piece shape is made easier. Now, looking at the pieces you've already got together, you can see the ins and outs of the piece shape that should go in that spot. Ins and outs can have a variety of locations including left, center, right and eveeything in between. When you look at a piece that you think might go in a spot, consider where its ins and outs are and whether or not they'd line up with the other piece.

Try buying a light that is true color spectrum. It helps bring the full true shades of colors out. I use the Ott brand. I am in my seventies, had cataract surgery and it helps using the lamp tremendously.

    First
I flip all pieces over and while doing that I claim the edges. Than I scan all my flipped over pieces and collect colors. Once I collect the colors I dump a color on the table and sort those by color tone within that color, if necessary!

When you start a 3000 piece puzzle and can’t find the last 2 edge pieces so you sort all the other pieces twice 🤬🤬🤬

  • @SWANYAWN

Perhaps line the cardboard box with felt? It might help maintain stability and use color to accent puzzle color being placed into them.

Hello #PuzzleDude and thank you for this video. I especially like the use of 'trays' and this is why...I've never done any significant puzzle in my life and am the more 'artistic' type (organization is not my top trait/skill). I bought a beautiful image of 2 wolves in snowy mountains of Yellowstone (1000 piece puzzle) back in 1997 and was immediately overwhelmed when I looked into that box so, I sorted some of the colors out then, closed it right back up. Yesterday, I decided to give it another try and I think your suggestion of trays is going to give me a better chance of completing that puzzle (hopefully, before another 24 years go by)! I have SO MUCH to learn. Liked and Subscribed.

I "drop" puzzle pieces on the floor, and they somehow "fly" to the moon, lol. So, I am going to place a "thick fluffy" and "large" rug under my table and chair. I can not believe, but I know it for fact, how far and lost a puzzle piece can wander!

@@lilac404 funny thing. 2 months later my wife found the piece in her reading chair. 😮 It must have fallen in her lap and she got up and went to the other side of the room. By then I had scanned the photo on the box and made a new piece. I framed the puzzle. I was so happy to replace with the original 😊

    • @junkmail1262
      @junkmail1262 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@lilac404 it took some time. I took a photo of the puzzle box around the area that was missing. Then I made copies on the printer. Scaling up and down the printout until it was the right size. I cut out the puzzle piece from printout. I then cut out a piece of the cardboard puzzle box. It was close to the right thickness of the puzzle piece. Next I used an exacto blade to make it the right size. Lastly I glued the two pieces together. The hard part was getting the right colors to come out when I printed. I kept changing the brightness and color tone until it was close enough.
