Toyota GR010 Hybrid LMH racing at Monza Circuit: 3.5L Twin-turbo V6 Engine Sound

  • Here's a video fully focused on the two GR010s of the Toyota Gazoo Racing in action at Monza Circuit during this year's Monza 6h race of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The GR010 Hybrid has been developed under the new new LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) rules, which consist in prototypes designed from the ground-up with optional hybrid power. Together with the LMDh (Le Mans Daytona H) cars, prototypes based on a shared structure with mandatory hybrid power, both will be raced for the victory starting from the next Le Mans 24h in a single ''Hypercar'' class.
It's powered by a four-wheel drive hybrid powertrain, with a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine delivering 670 hp to the rear wheels combined with a 272 hp electric unit which acts on the front axle. Total power output is limited to 500 kW (680 hp), which means that the electronics reduce the power of the combustion engine based on the amount of hybrid boost delivered. The total weight of the car is of 1,040kg. Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and José María López are the drivers of the car number 7 while Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley share the seat of the 8.

With Toyota's recent success at the WEC, I do not see why a return to F1 would hinder them. All they need is to downsize the GR10 power unit to 1.5L since Formula 1 uses the same configuration and they'll be good to go, but this is just my two cents.

It sure is an interesting looking car. Toyota has certainly had great success at the tail end of the LMP1 HY era, but I can’t help but think that when some serious competition arrives in the next year or two, Toyota will end their LMH program. Maybe they’ll focus on GT racing or something, but I can’t see them continuing to fund this program if they are suddenly running midfield at every race.

This is the worst sounding fastest car in history!! It has zero emotion because it sounds like an emissions restricted 2007 Nissan Maxima. The sooner we mandate E fuels the sooner we can build higher revving, higher compression, screaming engines. If car racing becomes carbon neutral via E fuels, then why not resume the evolution of N/A race engines ?
