    In the late 90s 3 years in a row we camped in a pop-up trailer at a campground somewhere in the area. Our kids were all in middle school and high school. We drove to the Kinzua Dam (the story behind that is sad), canoed on the Allegheny River, visited Seneca Village, but the highlight of the trips was always a ride on the Kane RR across this gorge. The train crossed the bridge and stopped so everyone could get off and walk out on the bridge. It was breathtaking. I was sad to learn the bridge had collapsed several years ago. Now my husband and I are planning a trip to the area to see the elk and to walk out on the sky bridge. I am so looking forward to this!

    Just came back from there today. Made the 5 hour trip from Ohio and it was very much worth it to me. Plus I went swimming at Kinzua Beach! All free, didn't cost a dime. Very beautiful area.

    I’m from Erie Pennsylvania… on vacation one year we stopped and saw this.. now, I’m a man of 53 and i am terrified of heights.. i walked out there and sat on the bench by the glass floor.. i didn’t go anywhere near the railings. Some kid came out 8-10 years old and started jumping on the glass, I’m like “stop that!” .. parents looked at me funny and laughed… i got up and left …very cool to see but not for me. Funny, flying doesn’t bother me at all, in fact I request a window seat every time.

    Dude. . . that's how literally long that bridge was. I thought this was a really high def version of a train car walk thru from back when it was still standing. After 15 or 20 seconds I realized it was the modern day slow roll out on that "skywalk." That bridge was insane.

    That was a terrible shame that financing could not be found to restore the bridge and the line whenever a railroad disappears we lose part of our history

    hard to believe a train actually went over that bridge. it looks flimsy.

      Considering it lasted 100 years and collapsed due to no maintenance, it seems sturdy. Especially since it was built in 100 days.

    Why would I want to walk on this when the rest of it collapsed?

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Ignorant. Why not look it up before commenting? The bridge itself was structurally good, only the anchor bolts holding it to the ground were rusted. Those were in the process of being repaired, but then a tornado tipped the middle part over, and gravity did the rest of the damage. But the part that remains is perfectly good. And going out on it gives a great view. So why would you NOT want to walk out on it?

    • @ronriggs9954
      @ronriggs9954 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      100 mph+ winds, pushed ankle bolts up, during a tornado, in an area not known for them.

  • @danbrown6555

    It was better when you could ride the train over it and back,
