  • Based on more than 25 hours of never-before-heard audiotaped interviews conducted by noted journalist Michael Azerrad, the movie KURT COBAIN ABOUT A SON is an intimate and moving portrait of the late musician and artist Kurt Cobain, told entirely in his own voice - without celebrity soundbites, news clips, sensational or tabloid angles. It's who he was from the man himself, with cinematic imagery shot on film of the three cities in Washington State that played a major role in his life (Aberdeen, Olympia and Seattle) and set to an evocative score by noted Northwest musician and producer Steve Fisk and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard, as well as the music of more than 20 artists who influenced or touched Cobain during his life. Kurt Cobain About A Son opens in select markets in October.

what kurt should've known is, beside all the mainstream fans and creepy paparazzis, there were people who actually related to his acts, his music, his choices. that's why some people just wanna be in his social life. i get how and why he struggles with all this fame and scandals he went through, and how he was angry, depressed, sad about media and much more. but there are some reasons people wanna know him.

Oliver Lewis i saw the thing. I don't like it. As someone who has personally met Kurt, my dad doesn't like it too. Montage of heck was way more realistic.

+Jesus Christ Montage of heck was a bullshit view from courtney love and a lie, soaked and bleach was about presenting evidence that courtney is the killer, and she is. I will debate with you for a week straight verbally about how and why and if and who. Montage of heck was a garbage demonization of kurt and biased as all fucking hell as with everything she does about kurt. I'm 90% sure Courtney made montage of heck to cover up the release of soaked and bleach. She was planning to use and manipulate someone to get money and a well rounded life, it wasn't an ideal set on kurt, kurt was just the one she chose. Her own fucking father thinks she did it, and has evidence in his own book of things cited from journals that point to her planning a longterm manipulation for someone for YEARS, a poem that had such evidence was read in i believe kurt and courtney? could be wrong i've seen so much on kurt it could be from something else.

I liked this movie far more than "Montage of Heck". It paints Kurt in a more positive light. I think MOH demonized him. And this film is much more beautiful and immersive. You really feel like you are traveling with the spirit of Kurt to the places he inhabited.

I agree with you that he was not necessarily a happy individual toward the end of his life. And yes, there were many signs of his depression, mental illness, suicidal ideations, etc. However, I feel like MOH focused exclusively on these without giving a complete picture of who he was as a human being. You are right, but at the same time, I think there is more to the story, and About A Son completes that picture. And this is coming from someone who still enjoyed MOH - but I prefer About a Son.

I haven't seen Montage of Heck yet, but this movie has a special place in my heart... and watching this after several months is even more touching. By now I passed my "Nirvana phase" (if that makes sense), and I feel kinda nostalgic whenever I come back to this...

This is one of the best documentaries about him. It's better than Montage of Heck, because it portrays him in a more truthful light. you hear about how he grew up, the relationship with his parents, what it was like for him in school, and how he felt about things like depression. yes, he had depression, but he was much more than his problems. I like listening to his voice. it's comforting and I turn to this documentary often when I feel sad.

There is no truth, just point of view. In this case, it is one point of view, kurt’s, rather than multiple points of view like MOH.
I’m reading Come As You Are, which this Doc uses the interview tapes, and I enjoy reading Kurt and the bands POV as they were experiencing their journey.

I just watched this. It was incredibly moving.
He made so many casual, sincere refreces to the future. He said he concidered suicide only due to his stomach pains.
I know in my heart he did not kill himself, he was murdered. It is just so unfortunate that a person like him had to have his life taken away. Especially that he had a daughter, and family and friends and fans who loved him so much. I feel so sad for him.
And he had a beautiful speaking voice.

This movie is really great, I recommend any Nirvana fan to watch it. And I don't get why most people think that this is a some harsh or sad movie, I smiled a lot while watching it, Kurt was a funny guy for sure :) and his story is really interesting, too. I love the part where Kurt talks about how he went to a club and a some kid asked him why did he always look so mad. And Kurt replied "I'm not mad, I'm in a perfectly happy mood right now you asshole", his voice intionation was priceless :DDD

Idk, perhaps for some ppl we see our heroes as gods and perhaps forget they are human. I think that's why we value them so, not because we forget they're human, but because we see, hear and feel how human they are and as a result realize they are a lot like us... But maybe that's just me. Kurt's not a hero of mine but I'm drawn to him bcuz of his brokenness. I can relate to it and it makes me feel less alone and in this life it is very easy to feel alone.

I love Kurt Cobain and his music. I'm not in love with Kurt, I'm in love with person what he was and in his music. He looked so depressed, but deep, really deep in his soul he was probably happy. It's so fucking hard, to watch this movie and don't cry. This is the best movie in my life. After this, I always think 'this is soo true' and start crying. the sign coming into town says "Come as you are." Aberdeen has A LOT of street art. not graffiti, but things like sculptures and paintings. Some of them are of Kurt. Go down to Rosevear's, the local music store. Outside on the sidewalk there is a star that looks like it is supposed to be on the walk of fame in Hollywood. It says Kurt Cobain on it. ( which ironic, since he is not on the actual Walk of Fame.) Oh, the local classic rock station has " Nightly Nirvana".
