    Good review as ever, especially in that weather.
    I’m somewhat biased but it’s an excellent bike, I’ve owned mine since 2020 and very pleased with it. Enough power, all the safety gear and very competent on rough Welsh back roads. The low screen works well, and is a great bike for touring.
    Just a couple of caveats, the ‘dynamic’ mode is obligatory, the throttle response in ‘road’ is truly tragic. It carries the weight a little high, but nothing that isn’t unmanageable.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dynamic vs Road on the 1250 is the same… (I leave that in Dynamic too). I probably picked the worst possible day to try it 🤣. I’m sure the low screen is perfect, especially in warmer weather, it just wasn’t ideal for that particular day. Ride safe!

    F850GS is a great bike although the front suspension is terrible, way too soft, no damping to speak of and non adjustable. Just fitted Andreani adjustable cartridges to front forks and what a difference, the bike handles like a normal motorcycle now, so much better and so much more fun.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! I fitted the Andreani cartridges to my CRF300 Rally and they made a massive difference, off and on road.

    • @razorsharp9850
      @razorsharp9850 ปีที่แล้ว

      Meltdown: do you ride mostly off road or just normal road riding? Did you have the loosy feel in the front on roads? After your modification do you feel more planted and not swervy in the front, better feedback on the curvy highway roads?

    • @motomeltdown
      @motomeltdown ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@razorsharp9850 I ride on and off road. The bike on the road with the adjustable front suspension is now very stable and easier to ride. I can brake and accelerate in the middle of tight bends without the bike becoming unstable and without the bike changing direction. I now feel much more confident riding on the road as the bike now handles predictably.

    Riding on wet roads in this type of environment in Dynamic mode. Why did BMW equip the bike with a Rain mode? Did they waste their time & money?

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      🤣. For me, probably. I ride my 1250GS in dynamic mode all the time. The only time I ever put it in rain mode is standing water with a pillion.

  • @razorsharp9850
    @razorsharp9850 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That was some serious rain. Made me think this was actually doing work lol. 10 minutes into the video, you’re saying throttle is jerky. Well, you were riding on Dynamic through slow traffic in the rain in low gears…. If you had switched to Road (or rain) then I am convinced you would not have that issue.

Mine was in for a major service and two advisories for the valve and oil for the swingarm and was going to be 3hrs. I’m looking for an adventure bike in the mid size range that can accommodate my wife and our gear. I’m downsizing from a Harley Electraglide so I don’t want the big 1250GS. I turned 70 this year so I want a bike I can ride into my 80s. How would this 850 do with a pillion? Wet reviews show things that you don’t always see on a sunny day. Thanks and keep the shiny side up.😎

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Power-wise I'm sure it's fine, though it's quite tall and I think for a pillion, the only way to know is for her to try it, ideally on a test ride. It's a one piece seat which might be less ideal than some of the others that have a separate seat and separate cushioning. If you do choose one, I'd definitely suggest the bigger screen! Good luck.

    • @timothydubber549
      @timothydubber549 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s an excellent pillion bike but just be aware that it’s very tall and carries tue weight quite high. Plenty of power though and very comfortable.

      @chadkline4268 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't dismiss the 310gs if you have no need to go beyond 65-70mph. But it's not for pillion. It's really a great inexpensive do-it-all bike if you have no great need for high speeds. Really 🙂 it's worth checking into for old people. Lightweight+high quality, and very capable in all conditions, except high speed touring. 60mpg. Can do 90mph, but will be loud and vibey.

    • @razorsharp9850
      @razorsharp9850 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends a lot on your height really. If you ride very often or almost always with 2 up and maybe some luggage, then you want the 850 for power over the 750. But it works better to be on the taller side. 180cm (plus). You should include the Dynamic ESA suspension so you can adjust easily the rear shock settings with the push of a button to just you or with your wife and or no luggage. You really need to test ride a loaded version of the 850 and a 1250 GS to compare. They aren’t too far apart on size and weight, you might end up at the 1250 in the end.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks and yes, I think your Bonneville is safe for now. The 850GS is a good bike, but there's a lot of good bikes out there, and I'm not sure that's quite enough. I'm sure it'll float some boats, and it'd be dull if everyone liked the same thing. I'd still pick a Tiger 900 though of the middleweight adventure bikes.

      See if you can try them before, though for two up, I’d choose the 1250. Centre of gravity is lower and the bike feels lighter. I think the seat is lower too. I know this has been a year but thought I’d leave a comment. I have a 1250 but also have a 750GS this is the second one first was euro 4 this one euro 5. Think someone has commented about the previous version and how only rideable in dynamic which was true. In anything other than dynamic pulling away at junctions especially when turning or two up it would felt like it was going to stall no matter how much throttle you gave it then kick in all at once. You said the test bike was a bit snatchy, could have been that bike as my newer euro 5 I has perfect throttle response with no snatchiness and is rideable in every mode. I tried both but preferred the 750 maybe due to the wheel size it’s more or less the same bike but £2k cheaper. It’s a very capable bike and took me and my wife on a 2500 mile trip around Spain with no issues. Performance wise they are surprisingly close to the 1250 think the 750 is about half a second slower to 60 and the 850 is about 0.3 seconds slower, they both do 120+mph. It’ll be interesting to see how the newer 800/900 models do as they are both up 10hp and 10 torque.

      The GSA of the 850 is a bit silly. It’s like having all the negatives of the “real” big brother GS, but none of the advantages. If you’re ok with the extra width and weight then you are on the 1250 GS level, but with much less power and worse suspension and front wheel feel.
