Sipping on a knob creek bourbon at the moment that might argue with you 😂 I had to..but in reality you aren’t wrong and the only thing that rivals getting a vintage saw to pop off is that time when you were a kid and you dad let you run one the first time lol

My dad gave me a Homelite EZ250 as my first saw in 1971. Still have it and it still runs great.
I’ll be surprised if you don’t find these saws have automatic Oiler with manual override too!
The original EZ and Canadian early version XL1 were Manual only. I bought a Super Mini a few years ago so I would have the Canadian version of the SEZ and it had the auto Oiler. The first version of the EZ automatic a ~37cc saw had the auto plus manual oiler. I have 12-15 of these saws, all running sitting in my garage. Love to work on them.
    Really enjoy your videos!!!!
    Keep them coming

Best advice I’ve gotten is just be you on the TH-cam’s. I started this channel not even 2 weeks ago and every full length video I’ve done so far is something my friends wanted to see or know. I never thought I’d get anywhere let alone 80 subs in a week and a half. Thanks for all you do as well Tinman your also a big reason I started this channel. Thank you for everything you’ve done for the TH-cam saw community

Dad has a C-51 he bought new! Several years ago we bought a C-51 and a C-72 at an auction all 3 need the jets turned all the way out to get them to start after setting a long time. After the first hit set them normally and the run like clockwork. Love the old Homelites!!

They do port up really nicely. I have my old mans super EZ it was actually my grandmother’s first. It got handed down to me as a kid. It was what I used to cut fire wood with my dad till I got grown up enough for a bigger saw. When I rebuilt and tweaked it some years back. I went for more nominal torque by doing little flow work around the reeds, transfers, and piston. I don’t think I raised the exhaust any. I also upped the compression and timing a smidge. Those decomps are a bit leaky I just cap them off. I haven’t made a pipe for it yet. I run a 24” bar with pico chain on it 8 tooth rim for limbs 7 tooth rim for utility cutting. It’s a real hoot to use. It’s one of my favorite saw for cutting up top wood after I fall. Down in the land of the biger oaks working the tree down on to the ground after you fall it you end up cutting at head level or a bit higher. Having a good light saw with good power and a longer bar gives some good reach. I used to use an ms180 or ms260 with a 25” but the super ez is nice; wish I had a break on it though. Even though people always dog the older saws even when worked for not having the same power to weight ratio as the newer stuff I do find the older saws when tuned up running a chain with a touch more bite they stay sharp longer. The funny thing is it wasn’t till I ran across your channel that I decided to up scale to a XL130 and a XL925. I knew of them but never really ran one. I agree “There is something about the look and sound of these saws that takes me back”. Keep on keeping the homies alive. I am cheering you on, and I am excited to see where you go with the mini’s.

  • @erwinwilde3109
    @erwinwilde3109 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The super mini has both auto and manual oiling, the xl-1's are just auto and no decomp. They will have some idling issues without a muffler, usually they won't idle down.
As a joke I put on a 20 inch bar and full chisel chain on my super mini, and then buried it in oak. Well the joke was on me, because it pulled it through that oak just fine. They really do punch above their displacement.

Funny you posted this video... Tuesday a friend of mine tore down an old building.... inside was 9 saws and he gave them all to me .. 1 pioneer 1200A which turned out to run.... a 3.0 craftsman which runs but needs gas lines n filter..and 7 homelites... 1 like you have there and one with a brake anti vibe and the rest were top handle ones... the former owner was bad at mixing gas or hard on gear... the 2 bigger 40+ cc saws have scored pistons... I'll have lots to do this winter getting them running

I dig the super minis picked one up last year it’s awaiting in line for work I grew up running my dads xl12 I thought that was the baddest saw ever ! I worked for a Honda dealer/stihl dealer when I was in my early teens - I had brought the saw in and the saw guy helped me air test it and we put a reed and carb kit on the old girl and I was back to cutting
Years passed my dad ended tossing it (regretfully so) he kicks himself for that
So now any saw he comes across he brings over to my place 👍😁 my wife might throw me and my power saws out !

I fell in love with this series of saws, and I have been collecting them recently, blue and red ones. I'm in the process of restoring them and I want to port some of them. I’m really excited to see how you will do yours! I'm watching you from France and I don't always understand what you're explaining, your videos aren't all subtitled, but it's always a pleasure to follow you! Could you display the timing numbers in your videos? It's often difficult to hear them because i don't understand English well. the xl 76 you have ported is really impressive, I would like to find one one day, in the meantime I will take inspiration from it to port my super minis! Thanks Tinman👍👍👍!!

One thing with those is if you don’t keep the fins absolutely clean they would over heat and blow up. They don’t have much in the way of cooling surface area and the fins are close together and plug easily

yes I love my homelites and my EZ is a nice little saw same as your mini you told me. I got Buckin to sign my starter on my orginal first saw, bought new in 78, super xl at Bunyon and now that's hanging up on my wall. You said you changed carbs on the 922, do you remember what carb it was. I would like to replace the governed carb off of my 925. love the homelite video's, good job Tinman

I see some Super EZ Auto's here in Oregon, but a nice one never comes up for 20 to 30. Even the junk Chinese saws that don't run go for more than that.
I have a Super EZ that wants to idle very fast then slow and die quickly. The owner before me had the idle set way up to keep it from dying. It might have the air leak you reference. I might try a seal change if I can find some, I've never done that.

Awesome little trio there! I've test fired a couple saws that just wouldn't act right without a muffler. Given the exhaust port size on that one, wouldn't be surprised if no muffler isn't atleast a contributing factor.
Recently got a very clean old poulan 2000 complete with original storage case in trade for a carb clean/rebuild and fuel lines in a more modern clamshell craftsman/poulan 42cc!

I’m excited about a Homelite super mini build. My first batch of saws that I bought after deciding I was going to start collecting came with a super mini. I think it was a wall hanger from that guy’s collection and I’ve always wanted to have a go at getting it running. Or maybe I’ll mail it to you if your other one doesn’t work out and you need more parts or something.
