    Great video Alan. Persian Risk was definitely one of the NWOBHM bands that had some higher level musical chops about them. So in 2022 there was an unofficial release by NWOBHM Rarities only out on CD where they got the Anthology treatment covering their singles from 1981-1984 plus a couple of live tracks and a couple of demo tracks. 12 tracks total. It's from the NWOBHM Rarities: From Collectors to Collectors series which have put out some terrific obscure collections on CD. Many of these are still available although in limited release. Highly recommended! Thanks for another great vid Alan!!

      Thanks for the info, I haven't seen that CD series. I'll keep an eye out for them.

    Dear Alan, this is Tom from Japan again. Very glad to know you've featured my alltime favorite NWOBHM band!
    Carl Sentance has been nominated by me as one of three "voices of NWOBHM". 3rd tier is Pete Franklin (R.I.P.) of CHARIOT, 2nd is Carl Sentance of PERSIAN RISK, and 1st tier is of cource Brian Ross of SATAN and BLITZKRIEG fame!, which of course excludes major names such as MAIDEN or SAXON etc...
    Anyway, "Once a king" is NOT just a nostalgia but very listenable good album which also includes re-recording of their anthem "Ridin' high"!! I recommend you to try it when you come across that great album. Cheers!

      Hi Tom- good to find another Carl Sentance fan! He had a great voice for this type of material. Thanks for the info about 'Once a King', I will try to check that one out when I get a chance.

    This TV show was on at around 6 pm on ch4 on a Friday night back in the 80's in the UK,,,we only had 4 TV channels then ,so it was pretty cool to have a metal show on mainstream TV...

      It was a very short lived ( two months) program called ECT. A blogger named Andy LeRock put together a History of ECT page with multiple pages of stories about the bands and videos from the show. If you punch this into your searchbar you'll see his blog. Persian Risk wire on episode 7 of the 8 episode run of the show.

    Hell yeah, man! Good to see a feature on this underrated band.... especially since, as you may have surmised, I never really explored beyond the very early stuff. Not sure I've made the wrong decision there, although I might grab that 12" EP one of these days if I find a deal on it, hahaha. And thanks for the shout-out!

      I had a hunch, in the heart of my bottom, that you of all people would appreciate the PERSIAN RISK catalog :) I think Aaron's inner AOR fan needs to 'Rise Up' and embrace their LP. Hope you are doing well this holiday season Chromie!

    Brilliant vid Alan! Those two singles and the comp track are some of my favs from the period. Those early songs are really belter top stuff but the other material is...well its Too Different😊. Superb vid on a class band mate.

    • @letstalkmetal
      @letstalkmetal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Jason! I get why folks don't care for the later stuff though I do think that material is better than what most of the other bands were trotting out by 1986. "Rise up' won't increase anyone's True Metal Credit Score, but it shouldn't cost them any points either :)

    @crimsonglory81 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video and great band , as usual, Alan! Really love everything they have done and yes their two later albums are really good with a couple of re-recordings of their classics such as dark tower, women and rock, calling for you & ridin high. Excellent albums in my book.

    • @letstalkmetal

    I've always loved Persian Risk ever since I heard the song Calling for You. I'm a big fan of Carl Sentence's voice. I dig the first album, but those early singles are killer. Great melodic and hooky NWOBHM that deserved more. Its also pretty awesome that Phil Campbell was in the band, killer guitarist, Motörhead obviously proves that. Great to see a video on them.

    • @letstalkmetal

    Thanks Alan, that brings back memories. Interesting, lost band who never made it to the top, but were undoubtedly one of the most talented NWOBHM bands in my opinion. And with "Rise Up" (1986) they delivered a high-class, rock-solid Glam Metal gem of an album that sounds like a symbiosis of EUROPE and DOKKEN, although not quite with their outstanding songwriting and, above all, without their exceptional virtuosos on guitars. The terrible drum sound - as a product of its time obviously - takes away some of the power and down-to-earth nature of the material, but that's - of course - not really a problem for people who grew up with this kind of music during that time.

    • @letstalkmetal
      @letstalkmetal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad to find someone who appreciates the 'Rise Up' material Mike! Yes, they were a band who had the talent but just didn't get the break :(

    One of the handful of outstanding Welsh bands from the NWOBHM.
    I only know them from the tracks on various compilation albums. Didn't realize that Jon Deverill had been with the band before joining Tygres of Pan Tang. They did quite well to replace him with a similar style vocalist in Carl Sentance. I think your comparison of their style to that of Tytan is very good. It's like Tytan with a bit of Saxon tossed into the mix might be a good description.

    I can't say I've ever heard of Persian Risk. I liked the songs you played here so I'll have to check them out. NWOBHM is a tricky genre to find really good music in. There were a lot of bands that never got to release a full album. Of the ones that did get to put out an album, it seems like they were still part of that generation where the album would have one or two good songs and the rest were crap.

    • @letstalkmetal
      @letstalkmetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a lot of variation in the genre. Glad you liked this band. Someone else mentioned there is an anthology release in the works for 2024.

    Speaking of Motorhead, I have been reading Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers: The Rise of Motorhead by Martin Popoff. Two chapters in and it's pacing toward 3.5 Crystal Pepsi's out of 5. Nothing monumental but a solid read. We'll see how it shakes out.

    • @letstalkmetal
      @letstalkmetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL love that grading scale Hattori. I'll keep an eye out for it. I read a couple of Martin's early books and wasn't a big fan of his writing style, but that was 20+ years ago. I enjoy listening to him on streams and podcasts.

    Thanks for featuring Persian Risk. I've got a compilation or two with Ridin High on it and always thought that was a killer track! That being said I never really got to far beyond that. It would be cool to get a full anthology. Also I don't mind the Rise Up sound . But that cover is horrible!

    • @letstalkmetal
      @letstalkmetal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL it is a rough cover. Someone else mentioned that PR should be getting an anthology released in 2024; I think they said High Roller was releasing it \m/
