They gotta stop calling Rap "intellectual" or "soulful" -- she's just a good ass rapper who put her whole soul into Please Don't Cry. She doesn't need to do anything for anyone. She's done everything for the fans already. If you're always thinking about how art is received, you'll never make your best art. The fact she's all on the album letting you know that she has failures, fears, enjoys being a woman, desires love, likes to get low, knows how to turn up, still loves to bar up, and knows how to get vulnerable...she did what Kendrick Lamar did somewhat on Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers...and I dare say she did a better job of showcasing ALL of her humanity. The people are ready for her style of music. We've gotta stop treating people like they stupid. They ain't.
yeah she dope. I found out about her from the movie Power (w/Jamie Foxx) i think she wrote the raps for the main female character. She is a rappers rapper & this becoming one of my favorite podcasts. I got alot from this week interview 🙌🏾
I love that they used an actual lyricist to write rhymes for a character. Too often rap songs on movies/tv shows be corny as hell🥴🤣

She is really great, although I disagree with the statement that people are not ready for intellectual rap and thats why its hard for her, and its not about being a woman either.
The truth is if another Lauren Hill shows up right now she’ll be the biggest thing in the world in a week!
Rapsody got the skills and shes an amazing rapper and an amazing person thats a great example for next generations. with that said, something about her music just doesnt feel 100% natural and authentic.
Shes trying to be authentic the way you “should” be authentic, shes trying to be cool the way you “should” be cool, shes trying to be intelligent the way you “should” be, and theres nothing wrong with trying! You gotta work and try to make sh*t happen. But nothing clicks until it FEELS effortless. And you can feel the chip on her shoulder.
Lauren was cool since the moment she was born, she has that cool factor that youre drawn to that no one can explain, and as much as Rapsody is amazing, and definitely has a crowd and is a great artist, she doesnt have that Moving The Needle energy that is required to be a global icon, like for example kendrick. And it has nothing to do with her being a female, cause the world is starving for that authentic energy from a female rapper

Lauryn came out from a successful rap group and Lauryn also had excellent branding in addition to neo-soul being popular at the time.
