i am working on getting my consistencies right, but this video helped so much. I gave it a try and love the results although my cells were not nearly as formed as I would like. Plenty of cells but no big noes like you are getting. Do you mix your paint and let it sit overnight? I was thinking that I might have used the paint too quickly after mixing. At any rate, the result was gorgeous and I am giong to keep trying.Best video I have seen. Way to go!
Glad it was helpful! I wish I could say that I usually had the for thought to mix ahead of time, but most often I don't- I tend to paint when I'm in the mood. But I WILL say that in this video there was some paint that had been prepared ahead of time for a painting class and I wanted to be sure I used the left-overs it before they separated. Several of these painting were done over the course of many days and included some of that class-paint. So in this particular case- you have brought up an interesting point. It may help- but I haven't experimented on that idea precisely.
Hi!!! Just found you and love your teaching!!! So much easier!!! I was curious if you had issues with cracking or crazing??? Love this and I'm a new subscriber! Tysm!!!!
So glad you found this helpful. I haven’t had any issues with cracking. If you do experience cracking I would assume your Pearl paint is just a bit too thick.

I just tried out your pearl recipe and I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Thank you so much for sharing. I now would like to know if there something I can do to minimize the amount of pearls. Seems that this technique almost takes over.
I'm so glad you were able to use this recipe. I like that it only includes 1 additional ingredient. But you are right, the pearls can take over. I suggest you torch sparingly; the more I torch the more the pearls keep popping. You can use less pearl paint-don't layer as much as you see me do in the video. You can also be strategic about where you place your pearl paint- sometimes I just put it on the edges or on a particular side. Here's an example of me only using the pearls as a border: th-cam.com/video/U0sLKu8szsw/w-d-xo.html
I must say I have watched a lot of videos concerning this process and thank you. Thank you for being specific so that I can really get the concept of what I am with me. So many of the videos don't explain. What's happening so thank you? Thank. You again? I am so grateful and it looks like you. Did this video a year ago? So I don't know whether you'll get this message but I am just totally Pleased
When I speak of "reactive" paint, it just means that paint which has the addition of Artist's Loft Pouring medium. The reactive paint will be the "pearl cell" paint and it is what you put on first. It could be one color or it could be many colors. There are many different canvases in this particular video, so I'm not sure exactly which one you are referring to. But if you are talking about the first one I did as an example, there are several colors of "reactive" paint, including white turquoise, and black. Then I poured over it with my thinner dump paint in a couple of colors.
Great video, thanks 🥰, just subscribed. I do have a question though, is the Artist Loft PM absolutely a must ? Can we use Liquitex PM or Vallejo Pearl Medium (creates a cloud effect) instead ?
Hi! So there is something specific to Artists Loft pouring medium that triggers the cells response and I have yet to find another brand with the same formulation. That being said, I do have another video you can watch where I try other gloss pouring mediums. th-cam.com/video/k4P9lU1Cr5s/w-d-xo.html The one that I had the most success with was Pebeo. I have also tried Lucas (off camera) and that didn’t work at all.
Thank you for the scientific breakdown of this type of paint mixing and technique…I have struggled too long to create the Pearl cells, I am sure because my bottom paints were not thick enough. Can’t wait to give this a try. Quick question, can I use something other than artist loft pouring medium?
Hi! Most gloss pouring medium will give some sort of reaction, to varying degrees. But I find it's easier than mixing all kinds of stuff and I trust adding a pouring medium over other additives. Here is a video I did testing different gloss pouring mediums: th-cam.com/video/k4P9lU1Cr5s/w-d-xo.html
Oh my GOSH I am so grateful for this video! Thank you for the explanation! I just have one question...LOL! Is there something I can use other than the gloss medium to alter the thick paint? I realize it's not terribly expensive but I live (sort of!) On Social Security. They must have LAUGHED when they named that! It's not remotely "secure" given they're running out of money, and you can't afford to be even a LITTLE "social"! 😄 I can get the gloss medium next month...I was hoping you could recommend something in the mean time. THANK YOU AGAIN!
So the Artists loft pouring medium gives instant and well defined pearls- so that is why I love using it. But I understand (it IS expensive). Another option that doesn’t work as aggressively, but gives its own lovely results, is to use metallic paints with floetrol. Keep them on the thicker side and then use a non-metallic that has been thinned with water and floetrol as your dump paint. The metallics will break through. OR you can use a DecoArt Satin Enamel color (a lot of artists use white) for the pearls. The satin sheen creates its own type of aggressive Pearl.
I know this is an old video but FINALLY someone that can explain things without getting confusing!!! thank you for using artist loft PM!!!
Glad it helps. It may. be an older video- but I still use this recipe. I had found myself with a whole cupboard of things from other artist's suggestions and it was just too much. I wanted to streamline.

@@SaritaLaroche ok great thanks. I’ll order artist loft PM but will try Vallejo too. I use it instead of satin enamels for my cloud pours.
I did get to the part of the video that explains reactive.
@@SaritaLaroche thank you for your response. Your video you reference was quite helpful. I will continue to practice until I master the technique!
