- The Academy of Motion Pictures museum recently opened in Los Angeles, California, and it’s a one-stop tribute to the art of filmmaking and is a must-see for any film fanatic. Exhibits range from animation to computer graphics in movies (including everything from Looney Toons, Miyazaki, Disney/Pixar), acting to directing (Spike Lee has his personal collection on display), art design to props and costumes (including many screen used props and costumes from movies we love like Star Wars, ET, Blade Runner and more). We also try The Oscar Experience which simulates what it is like to win an Academy Award and have lunch at Fanny’s, the cafe in the new complex.

This is so trippy! Debbie Reynolds tried to get exactly this museum started for decades and she couldn't get anywhere. she finally ended up auctioning off her gigantic collection over several auctions. I wonder how much of her collection is a part of this museum.
I’m curious if any of it is in there
I'm a connoisseur of movies, have been for almost all of my 71 years, and I thank you for this tour. Looks like a fantastic place for a movie nut liked me!
🙌
Love how you guys include food in a museum video. 🤗
Haha always
19:23 I died laughing...oops 😂
😂
being a film guy really like this adventure. imagine all the people who are living or dead who the movie experience allowed to escape their lives for a few hours.
😊 thanks for watching
I love that thought. Thanks
Cool video! I’m a little disappointed there was no mention of Debbie Reynolds- she was the OG collector and preserved SO many artifacts from the Golden Age and approached the Academy many times in an effort to open a museum- I wish/hope they find a way to honor her and her efforts.
Yeah she really should of been honored
She tried so hard to build her own museum. When she couldn't get the financial backing, she tried to get the Academy to purchase things for this museum, and she said they declined so many film treasures.
28:05…OH MY GOD, I MISS THAT TOY STORY ZOETROPE From when it was at Animation Building at DCA! I’m SO GLAD it’s there!
It’s so good
I really liked seeing Dorothy red slippers from the movie. Reminds me that time in school when someone got busted doing a book report on the wizard of oz. Guess what the shoes were in the book. Hint they weren’t ruby red. Follow the yellow brick road . Thanks for bringing us east coast people some amazing adventures.
💕
They were silver!
Oh my. We are RUNNING to this museum experience!! What an incredible collection of movie magic goodness!!!
Have fun!
As someone on a huge diet in order to make weight for a martial arts competition- I am living vicariously through your videos and watching the food you eat!
Keep it up!
the bambi sketches!! i could walk thru an entire museum of just animation stuff
Me too
I would never think of checking out the museum’s cafe… but that’s why I love Ordinary Adventures so much 😻
Haha well this one was from a well renowned chef so we were interested (and hungry)
Thank you for taking us to this amazing museum! Back in the 70s when I was in high school I was obsessed with Hollywood and the Academy Awards. I spent hrs and hrs making scrapbooks of the stars and never missed an award ceremony. Those were truly the end of the Golden yrs of Hollywood. Your acceptance speeches were fabulous 🤗
Thanks Barb ☺️
DCA had the toy story strobe characters. That’s awesome they have it at the museum now.
Yeah this is it’s new home
Also loved that you caught a moment of Kurosawa at the beginning of the tour. 😊
👍
The Oscar Experience had me dying. Definitely worth $15
😂 I’m not sure
Happy to see the Toy Story Zoetrope has a home. I miss seeing it in DCA. This one was great. TY!!
Agreed
Always love when I get to know a new place to visit. Thank you! 💜💜💜
☺️
The early days of TH-cam had a channel called breaking nyc that ray william Johnson ran and I didn’t realize until the other day your videos remind me of those I watched them at like, 13 or so. So it was quite a while ago. Thank you for the videos as always!
Hmmm never heard of that before
When I first heard that there was going to be a Hayao Miyazaki exhibit at this museum it became a must have for me to visit. I hope to go later this year and even though you couldn’t record during that section your explanation of what it was like has me more excited to visit. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thanks Josh
You Guys!!! I was just reading an article in the LA Times about this Museum and your video popped up in my feed. This is beyond overdue for Los Angeles and I'm so glad to see how many unique and historic pieces they have. I can't wait to visit this someday.
Ha what a coincidence
Thank you for sharing this, would have never have known. So much cool things to check out for any movie lover.
💯
I wasn’t crazy about this museum. I like the old movie props the best.
The gift shop…wholly cow the prices!! I guess It wasn’t built for a person with a common job.
Great and informative vlog.
I agree it's not all that! Totally Over-Hyped and should be way better considering how long it took to Create. I have been by it so many times and remember what it used to be before
I loved it but I think it could be improved. So many exhibits with screens. I’d rather see real items than projections
Frank Thomas's desk is really cool! Would pay the $25 just for that. "Disney Animation and the illustration of life" is amazing!
That was the thing I was amazed at the most
How Epic would it of been if they had replaced the Oscar with a Ordinary Adventures Star 🌟 😎👍as both have our vote for being nominated 🍻
Haha ⭐️
I can't wait! I'm going here next Monday! I'll have to see what you guys see in person!
Have fun
@@OrdinaryAdventures Thank you I will for sure! :) Also I love watching your guys vlogs of these amazing adventures!
Ok every time I walk over the” Barbra Streisand bridge” I will be sing a Babs song at the top of My lungs all the way across.
Ha
The Oscar Experiencia is the best!! Love Peters speech!! Kitra was My favorite, SO sorry!!! She really really deserve it, I cryyyyy 😭😭😭😭
😂
The dress from Midsommar! Gorgeous!!
It really is!
So happy y’all got to go to this and thank you for showing it in this vlog. This is a museum I so would love to visit. The rich history of film and how you presented it is amazing. This is a must to do when we visit.
Definitely check it out when you come to LA
Just wrote an essay on Citizen Kane. As a 19 year old kid I can concur that it is one of the greats!
👍
I feel like I've seen a lot of movies, but like Kitra, I have also not seen Citizen Kane or The Revenant haha.
I'm a huge LOTR fan, it's crazy all the small details and non-CGI that went into those films, still blows my mind!
Everyone has to see citizen Kane one day!
Omg, the fantastic mr fox! 😍
So cool
I think I would really enjoy that museum. A nice change of pace video for the channel but thoroughly enjoyed it it. Thanks
Thanks 🙏
Omg I'm glad to see that pixar zoetrope didn't get destroyed and is being used. I miss seeing it at DCA, it's so cool!!!
Me too
I NEED that book of movie maps! So cool!
It might be on Amazon
I just convinced my friends to go for our LA trip next month because of this video! 😆 I’m so excited hopefully the Miyazaki exhibit is still up.
Miyazaki should be there until June of 2022!
Yay you won’t regret it
All this excitement is making me hungry 😋
😁
Me and my lady are visiting LA for this museum at the end of the month, the Miyazaki exhibit is the biggest reason we are going!
It’s good. Get your museum tickets in advance, they sell out sometimes weeks in advance
Loved this video! Thank you taking us on EVERY adventure.
Thanks 🙏
Such a fantastic video. 🎥 I'm glad they're highlighting "classic" Hollywood films as well as more modern films. Citizen Kane & North By Northwest are 2 favorites. I can't wait to see the scifi & animation (Miyazaki) exhibits. I could spend a weekend in there. All I need is a cot and pillow. Lol I would totally rock the 16:9 t-shirt. Loving the longer videos.
Thanks B
Awesome we can't wait to check this out on our next US adventure
Definitely add it to the list
what a great visit. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Thank you for taking the time to recognize Akira as a master piece. Very legit you guys
🙌
Excellent video. Thank you Peter and Kitra
Thanks Raechel
Awesome. Excited to make a visit soon.
A Skipper who we lost a few years ago, was a huge fan of Jaws. I think the word got out for donations to be made in his name to be displayed near the Jaws shark and it was successful. Hopefully we can see it when we get a chance to go.
That’s a nice story!
Every week I look out for your videos. It really makes my day and thank you for another awesome video! Good job with editing kitra!
Thanks so much
And the Academy award for the best vlog goes to....... I loved this! Thank you for taking us along Kitra and Peter!
🥰 thanks Eric
This place looks so fun!! Not sure if you’ve ever been, but in NYC we have The Museum of the Moving image. It’s not as cool as this place (more about the history of the technology of film and tv) but I think you’d enjoy it if you love film.
🔥🔥🔥🔥 That place is hidden jewel in NYC! It was the spot to go pre YT to see the most random TV shows. It really is like Netflix too before Netflix with just better and more consistent programming.
Would love to visit that someday
First video i see of yours and loved it! thank youuu so much for such a perfect tour for all of us overseas.
Thanks 🤗🤗
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for sharing this ‘adventure’! So cool! Didn’t know this was opened already. It looks amazing. Would love to see it in person one of these days. Rosebud, C3PO and R2D2…awesome!
So cool
Adding this museum to the list. Love the backdrop detailing. 👌🏼 Thank you for sharing guys! 💛
😁
Thanks for the tour. You guys are awesome.
Thank you for watching
Thanks for letting us tag along Peter and Kitra! I can’t wait to see your exhibit in the TH-cam museum!!
Oh Peter… what fun we’re you up to in the New England Aquarium? I visited that museum many many times in the late 80s and early 90s with my family. I loved it! I can still smell the penguins and hear the closing announcement that my family still imitates today. There were so many great exhibits it’s hard to choose a favorite one but the octopus and school of fish were standouts.
I love that aquarium. I used to work in membership trying to upswell people waiting in line memberships. It wasn’t fun but I used to eat lunch every day watching the penguins and that was awesome
Ropa vieja is want we called the mix of the meat, onion, peppers and some species. 😘 So glad that You like it
Interesting
I cant wait for another live stream. The latest one was fun to watch.
I liked my own comment. Not sure why... ehh who am I kidding. It's, because I wanted to.
I like my own comments too... i mean if we don't like our own comments...why even post 'em lol imho 😊🌟🙃🌟😊
@@missewe Exactly
Thanks
Ordinary Adventures is most definitely Oscar worthy 🌟
100 percent!
🙌
I love the concept of an innovative musuem. Years ago I went to the Walt Disney musuem and having it interchanging screens was so different but neat.
Agreed. Love that place too
This museum looks amazing! Thanks for featuring!💚
Thanks Janet
That was such a great video. I wish they had this museum open when I lived in Ca. Thank you for sharing this one with us! I’ll have to go to the museum.
Thanks for watching
25:58 Sheesh! 😄. That museum is amazing. The highlight on the behind the scenes artists not just the actors shows that they knew the assignment. I’m so glad you two took me there. A million thanks again for another fun fantastic vlog OA❣️
Thanks for watching Bianca
Man, I think I could look at costume details all day! Seeing the 90s Cruela costumes would be a dream.
Also I might sound like a hater, but those small plant pots look like tin cans lol
Haha
How cool! Love the Oscar Experience! -S
You gotta check it out
I never thought I’d live to see the day ET got a butt check 🤣🤣🤣. Have u guys ever been to the tar pits? Seen it a few times on American films and wondered what it’s actually like there. Love ur work guys
😂
I loved loved loved this video!!!!!!!I've always loved movie memorable! Have a collection on Shirley temple, your acceptance speech was absolutely amazing! Worth the money! Thankyou for giving me much needed laughter !
Haha thanks Lucille

This is wonderful! I would like to see all of that in person. 👍 Great 😍
👍
Guys, this is genuinely a really great and pleasant tour of the museum. I appreciate it
Thanks David
Thanks for getting this up so quickly after it opened. $25 each wow, think I might be visiting this one on my own.
Los Angeles museums aren’t cheap
You guys knew so much and enjoyed it so much you would be great Museum guides. Thanks for explaining everything you saw.
Thanks for watching
What a great place, loved the Oscar experience, I SO got to do that! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Thanks for watching
That Cinemaps book is so fun, I got it for Christmas this past year and absolutely love it!
Love his art
Such a cool museum! I love that Wallace & Gromit were featured!
It was cool seeing the armature underneath
Loved this video! Thank you so much for all the info I can’t
Wait to go!
Thanks Jenny ☺️
I was so curious about this. Thanks!
Thanks for watching
I'm glad to see that the Toy Story zoetrope found a new home! It used to be in the Art of Animation building at Disney's California Adventure before the room it was in, as well as Ursula's Grotto, was taken over by a Frozen meet & greet.
I would looove to see this place! Everything that happens behind the screen is so interesting to me. It seems like you guys share that same fascination!
💯
I consider myself a closet movie buff - always willing to watch something old and intriguing if I come across it but not necessarily search it out. I tend to like to follow Hollywood film news as well and some history. The museum to me was fascinating and I really appreciate your lengthy tour. I will have to make an effort to get there - and to convince my wife it will be worth the day (LOL). That sci-fi fantasy room was great and the spike lee exhibit really interests me. Though I may have to bring my own sandwich or protein bars and pick up a burger down the street later.
The spike Lee room was weird but interesting. On one hand it’s not really about filmmaking jut it’s cool to see what inspires a filmmaker and what a filmmaker in his level collects and surrounds himself with
Very nice overview! Thanks!
Such a good idea!! Great fun I bet
☺️
I bet Peter was like a kid in a candy store. He seemed to show a lot of restraint walking around in there though. Thanks for another great video!
I loved that place
Holy smokes you two!I had never seen citizen Kane and I had it saved on my TiVo box whatever it’s called. And something made me watch it last Friday I was like OK I just need to watch this and get it out-of-the-way. I’m glad that I did LOL.
Haha
i love that you guys enjoy Japanese animation. Akira will always be a favourite ♥️ the oscar simulation was so funny xD
Akita is great
Just wow ! I would love to see that .
Love the video.. I didn’t know the museum was open yet, I love to soak in places like that. Im such a fan of black and white movies. Special silent movies cause their face expressions had to tell the movie. Thank u for all the variety of content u put out.
Yeah it just opened.
Thanks for the Video before work Kitra and Peter:).
Thanks for watching
Wow so much props. You guys are lucky 🍀. I am happy for you guys.(thanks for the amazing content)
Thanks
And the award goes too.... Peter and Kitra for their amazing TH-cam channel!!! woo hoo!!! 🏆🏆I have been so excited for this museum to open up. Definitely on our "to do" list. We are going to the Warner Bros Studio tour in December because of your video. Do you get to download the video from your Oscar experience?
Yeah they send it to you via email. We didn’t even show half the stuff there so definitely check it out sometime
I like this Academy Museum of Motion Pictures tour but especially the costumes including that silk floral dress from Midsommar.
That costume is awesome!
I just work an event there on Wednesday and the Museum is fantastic if your a film buff it’s a must. Plus the Hayao Miyazaki anime portion is amazing.
💯
I’m planning a visit with friends for the new John Waters exhibit. Even more excited about that after enjoying your video! Thank-you!
Have fun!
The hits just keep coming! 👍
We’ve been excited about this museum opening for years now.
Awesome Video! So much to see ! It truly looks like an all day Adventure!
Definitely will take you Atleast a few hours
Just wanted to take a moment after seeing that old editing machine that Thelma Schumacher had to use and say Kudos to KITRA for editing all of the Ordinary Adventures videos....I've just begun to edit videos and its not the easiest thing to do.
You have to have some major patience.
Was so cool to see that and show it to Kitra
Ropa Vieja means old clothes but it’s delicious something I grew up on , (Cuban dish) you can find it in any Cuban restaurant I’m so glad you loved it !!!
Ah okay
14:32 I was actually eating a huge burrito while you were eating yours. It was perfect! 🌯😂
Haha 🌯
So that's what they've been building across from the Petersen! The Academy Museum is in great company there.
Totally
Enjoyed your video tour so much
Thanks Kerry
That amazing they have a museum for all those great movie they was ever made
🙌
@@OrdinaryAdventures I'm surprised they didn't have the back to future care there or stuff from that movie
