    Love this band, the musicianship and especially the humor! Legends. The 70s were just a million times better than 2024

    I saw them around that time. That Tubes concert was the first concert I been to and still one of the very best. A year later I went with my dad to buy a used Ford radiator off a guy parting out an LTD, he was the Tubes manager.

    Wow that was a couple of days before I saw Cheap Trick for New Years Eve of 1978! I saw them again in 1979 to rign in 1980. I can still hear Rick Nielsen saying 4 years till 1984!❤❤

    Roger Steen, Bill Spooner and Rick Anderson are the best two lead and bass guitar trio tied with Dick Wagner , Steve Hunter and Prakash John . The later trio backed up over rated Lou Reed in legendary recorded live concert in nyc 1973 , broke up into two albums "lou reed live" and "rock n roll animal " and after went to Alice Cooper (for the bigger money, who can blame them)

    Awesome show. No other bands that I know of did the types of things The Tubes did on stage. Plus they sound just as good if not better live than in the studio. At least that's my opinion.

    Why do these early live videos seem to to turn the camera away from Bill Spooner when he is playing lead guitar ? When Steen is playing lead , camera is right on him . Steen was faster and more technical but Sputnik Spooner was also good and seemed to have more of a variety of tone colors and play the blues better

    I was at this show and enjoyed The Tubes and their opening acts, The Ramones & SVT. A couple months later they put on a completely different show promoting Remote Control at the Santa Cruz Civic.This must have been a transitional performance while the Remote Control show was in rehearsal. General Admission, open floor, & tickets always available at the door will never happen again like it was at Winterland.
    It was really fun seeing four shows that last month at Winterland, Van Morrison, Tower of Power and the final evening including "breakfast served at dawn" with The Grateful Dead and The Blues Brothers.
    My life was changed 12/16/1978 seeing Bruce Springsteen from the balcony. The scales fell from my eyes when I saw the savior of Rock & Roll. Nobody before or since had the energy or stamina like Bruce. it was also the first time I saw stage diving done safely with a loving, trusting audience. Of course with his now middle aged fans he can pull that trick off every night.

    If I were a music god, this would be my festival lineup:
    Frank Zappa
    Todd Rundgren
    Parliament/Funkadelic
    Sparks
    The Tubes
    Not in this order, but this would be a killer festival.

    Despite the controversial vulgarity(especially for 1975), Fee's "Sacramento Monologue" shit-kicker caricature is hilarious. Other than a few Sierra foothill outliers, there aren't *any* people like that *anywhere* in Sacramento, since 1982 or so. A cowtown, no more.

    What I like about Fee's humor is that he makes fun of himself or his character . At that time so many comedians would make fun of others and audience members . Im talking about Howie Mandel , Robin Williams , even the unknown comic with the bag on his head . recently 1996-2003 Conan O Brian brought back some of that self denigrating humor . O'brian certainly had a big ego but even he would also make fun himself . Since he started his show with TBS his show really sucks . He had more comedians(and "characters") beside himself when Conan was in New York . bigger budget i guess when O'Brian was in New York i guess....

    Am I outta line by saying the Tubes were a cross between Frank Zappa, Roxy Music and every early 70s prog rock band??

    • @RayNDeere
      @RayNDeere 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cbh440 That's a nice comparison, but I personally find it hard to really classify the Tubes in any genre. One thing for sure, a good group of musicians.

    • @marilyn3583
      @marilyn3583 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And definite rock parody. At least early on. GWAR definitely took alot from The Tubes.

    • @Baribrotzer
      @Baribrotzer 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Todd Rundgren probably belongs in there. Queen too. As for being prog, mostly they were way too "American" sounding - lots of Midwest boogie riffs, and their bar-band roots showing in how accurately they could play covers.
