You have really great feel. Vai has a very unique approach to the instrument and most people (especially me) can't really match his phrasing and intonation, but you seem to have got the feel down. I don't care for most covers on the internet but really enjoyed this one.

For my PIA it is a nice holidays story, didn't planned to buy it at all and just fall on it randomly during summer (not easy to find in france) brand new with 600€ discount and this one has been only played by me.. I could test it for 1 hour... 1 month later I bought it and receive it. Regarding fender neck. Actually i didn't like fender for years but last 6 month I started to get back to it and found out that you have hundreds of different necks.... Player plus neck is good, and lately I have tested Socal Charvel with compound radius.... Really nice feeling. Across all the guitar it became I like each neck according to what I want to play... But Pia's is above all for me. Wish you to get one soon! By the way you'll see pia's neck is a bit thicker compared to the jem. Body is more comfortable and New Utopia dimarzio pickups are way above classic jem dimarzio pickups
Haha Actually Bad Horsie looks really awesome to play. The only issue is that it needs a Drop C and on floyd guitar it's mess... (not really playing drop C songs) I may do it on my old ltd kh-202 though butI have to take the time first to do the trem setting and then learn the song. I'll keep it in mind!

Started Electrical guitar at 14yo and it was only advertisement. But I used to spend a lot of time on it. Today after almost 8 years without playing, Covid brought guitars back to my life and I tried to catch back all this time. This PIA came to me also by pure and not planned chance, and this is by far the best guitar I have ever played (and i used to test many different guitars). Thanks dude 😎 Keep working on it! It will make you progress if you maintain a certain level of self-criticism. The point also is that Master Vai's music is of course not the easiest songs to learn (beginner or not) used to have a friend who played Vai's as beginner, and despite he could play, his overall touch (whatever the sound) was not clear at all and even 'on guitarists could hear the difference. My advice would be keep learning tender surrender and enjoy it! But in parallel keep working your guitar touch on esier songs. Tender surrender is quite tricky to play, you need the best of your touch to make it your own version :) Really good luck, and wish you all the best for your infinite guitar journey 🎸 🔥

Hi Nicolás ! Thanks a lot for your feedback 🙏🎸🔥 Yes I know Steve is using his fingers on the clean part. Actually I used to play it using my fingers (sometimes both depending of the section), but I also wanted at some point more brightness on my clean sound so I played it using the pick only. Since then and on the video (you can see during the transition) I am actually running a transparent overdrive on the clean part and reducing volume pot + PIA trebble bleed enabled on the 4th position pickups. I liked the way it sound but as you mentioned it diserves to go back to fingers for the clean part 🤣 I’ll probably do so, anyway it is recorded now but I will apply your wise advise 😎 And Yeah PIA is a great instrument to play, incredible guitar 🎸 ❤️
Steve plays the mellow parts tenderly w his fingers....hence the name of this song. This guy nailed it. Tone wise as well there was nothing to crunchy about it. But hey everyone is entitled to there opinion. Probably the second best I've heard . The best I heard was an interpretation and wasn't note for note.

Hi Matthew, Thank you for your feedback :) I use guitar rig 6 + my pedalboard on my videos. For FTLOG, I had only used GR6 default preset "80's solo" + my Kirk HamMett Wah. For Tender Surrender, I use simple Jazz amp from GR6 + couple pedals (Jan Ray for crunch on clean part, then Jan Ray + distortion pedal on solo + delay and reverb). Secret is mainly coming from the PIA played at low volume with trebble bleed enabled. Using this PIA configuration on 4th position (to get that to be strat sound) on a crunchy amp or amp in a box. Also using a very very small Shimmer on my reverb (stolen this from TH-camr Paul Davids). but PIA is really making the difference, tone is incredible ! You have all my secrets

Thanks for your comment 😊 Sure I can give you some hints ! So firstly whats is really helpful is to listen the song enough so you can even kind of know and remember the overall melody. Then, I volountary or unvolontary applied old childhood song learning method I got from my classical guitar class : decomposing & repetition. You need to split the whole song within small parts and learn them one by one. Once one part is learned and played enough, you will remember it for sure. Applying this both your mind and fingers will memorize the song. if you don't know how to decompose, I can recommend you Guthrie Govan's videos. Ciao Alessandro, not italian speaker but I hope I mostly catch your comment 😅 It is hard work to learn and play it but you should already see that it worth the time spent. PIA is absolutely great to play, the quality and sound of the instrument are there. You only need to like very flat necks (both neck profile and fretboard radius). Harmonics are coming very easily on this ! Playing Steve Vai on his signature guitar is speachless !

Actually the Utopia Pickups are way better, the neck is very similar but a little bit thicker on the PIA (so maybe on this point I would prefer the Jem) however the body is more confortable to sit with. Hope you can test and grab one soon ;) Maybe go for the Black One, it is an absolute beauty !

I have been playing for two years and I will be using this song to audition for Berkeley college of music in around a year and a half so I’m starting to prepare right now and I have the clean part down so far. Hi actually tough question 😂 Started classical guitar at 7yo and electrical guitar at 14 yo. Now I am 29 yo but I spent like 10 years without touching a single guitar. No. Back to it, I needed first to get my ikd level back and now do some improvement 😎 But trying this tune after 2 years of playing is really a good challenge. I am. Far from being pro but If I would give any hint (from classical guitar learning technique), try to decompose as much the song to master each part and then work on the different transitions. Once everything is unlocked, try to focus on nuances and listen carefully over and over different steve vais live. So firstly whats is really helpful is to listen the song enough so you can even kind of know and remember the overall melody.
Then, I volountary or unvolontary applied old childhood song learning method I got from my classical guitar class : decomposing & repetition.
You need to split the whole song within small parts and learn them one by one. Once one part is learned and played enough, you will remember it for sure.
Applying this both your mind and fingers will memorize the song.

It is hard work to learn and play it but you should already see that it worth the time spent.
PIA is absolutely great to play, the quality and sound of the instrument are there. You only need to like very flat necks (both neck profile and fretboard radius). Harmonics are coming very easily on this ! Playing Steve Vai on his signature guitar is speachless !

@@alessandrogambazzi2783 I have tried both Jem and PIA, and my preference goes to the PIA. Actually the Utopia Pickups are way better, the neck is very similar but a little bit thicker on the PIA (so maybe on this point I would prefer the Jem) however the body is more confortable to sit with.

Yes you are probably right, it is not easy to recreate steve vai delays effect. As he used 2 unsynchronized delay pedals. I should have try to look more within guitar rig 6 to make it better!
Yo how long have you been playing for? I have been playing for two years and I will be using this song to audition for Berkeley college of music in around a year and a half so I’m starting to prepare right now and I have the clean part down so far. This was an amazing rendition of the song and the pia is an outstanding guitar that I only had the chance to play once at a nearby guitar store. Wish you the best!

Started classical guitar at 7yo and electrical guitar at 14 yo. Now I am 29 yo but I spent like 10 years without touching a single guitar. No. Back to it, I needed first to get my ikd level back and now do some improvement 😎
But trying this tune after 2 years of playing is really a good challenge. I am. Far from being pro but If I would give any hint (from classical guitar learning technique), try to decompose as much the song to master each part and then work on the different transitions. Once everything is unlocked, try to focus on nuances and listen carefully over and over different steve vais live. This can inspire you and maybe bring some of your own mark :)
