Hi, great thanks sir ! I am from Algeria and I have follow your precious lessons a many years ago, you have an easy way to share your knowledge and nice style to teach who like to become professional like you.
hi thank you for your wonderful videos , I have a question if you could reply me ,can we edit the shared items (alignment or profiles .. )in new drawing ,means in new project should we edit them not in the source drawing?
Jeff, do you have a video or methodology that you would use for creating an archive/revision files for the project so the xref and data references would be independent from the originals?
wonderful presentation, again :) i have an question. i started using data shortcuts for the purpose of printing my layouts, profiles and sample line profiles that have different scale. I found i cant do it from the single , let say, development civil, so i made few dwg s , refering to development dwg, that are used for printing. am i right, are data shortcuts for those purposes too, or there are better solutions for than?
Is there any solution, if I created a dwg contains rail type alignment & profile and took it shortcut in another dwg to create corridor then took the corridor shortcut in a 3rd dwg to create x-section, to change the alignment type to center line alignment and apply synchronise? It does not work with me at all, as I must recreate th x-sections even after I tricked the corridor. Could you give any advice?
Excellent video, thank you. I do have a question that I hope you can help me with regarding data shortcuts. Our typical structure is having a survey base file with a TIN surface displaying contours. We DREF the existing surface into a base grading plan. From there, we create a sheet drawing XREFing the survey DWG and grading DWG. By XREFing the survey file, I can see the contours in the drawing because the source drawing is displaying them. The grading drawing is also showing existing contours be because the existing surface is DREF and displaying contours. However, it's been hit or miss if the contours show up when plotting the sheet file. Sometimes I have to DREF the surface into the sheet file just to get the contours to plot. Another work around we've done is to physically extract the contours from the surface to create a 2D/3D polyline base file just to reference into our drawings. Not ideal, but it guarantees contours to plot. I have a feeling it has to do with plotting a large set via publish or sheet manager.
Hi Anthony, I've not seen the issue you are experiencing. I'd recommend reaching out to the Autodesk Partner where you purchased your Civil 3D. They will have technical specialists who can take a look at your drawings, troubleshoot the issue and log a support ticket with Autodesk if needed. Thank you for your interest in the channel and recordings!
Hello Jeff, thank you for your wonderful illustrations. I am following you from Ethiopia, East Africa. The problem I face with data shortcut is as follows. I have a complete project from design consultant and I am working on design review. I want to compare the design profiles of a single alignment which happen to have no change in horizontal alignment. The problem is data shortcut is creating another alignment instead of bringing the profiles for comparison. How can I solve this?
Jeff i have a question for you. i have big data it consists 30MB it include Topo, alignment,Profile,Cross Sections...i would like to create Data shortcuts for individual objects.. Can you please suggest a video or any source where i can explore new things about it
Excellent Class Eng. Bartels. Few weeks ago I watched a tutorial about using LIDAR DATA. So I am using Data Shortcuts to complete the exercise. The initial file countains the lidar data which helped to create the surface, however the size of the file is too big , ironically. Even after a new surface was created to undersize the data. Then I create a second file which will have the alignment and the profile. Another one will have the corridor. I get it, surface from LIDAR DATA looks amazing (hundreds of thousands points), but I ask myself if it is better that using surveying combining with field to finish (F2F) method. the chance to reconstruct the survey with the survey figure data base, description keys..etc. Thanks. Greetings from Bolivia.
Hello Sergio/Jeff, Sorry i did not intend to comment on Jeff's videos to communicate with other users. Sergio, I'm looking into learning more about LIDAR data and could you please direct me to the video you are referring, please? I like to expand my knowledge. Thank you kindly.
@@asankam In that time I was trying to understand all the available tools to improve my C3D Skills. But I didn't go further. and it wasn't paid off. at least not in my country. Academically it looked wonderful. But I understood that LIdar Data is the result of a advanced technical job. not easy to obtain or generate in certain condtions. I will look for the video or reference I used.
I'd recommend taking a look at Autodesk's Infrastructure TH-cam channel - th-cam.com/users/ADSKInfrastructure as they may have what you are looking for. I'd also recommend visiting the Autodesk University Online website - www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/ (use the "search AU Library") to find the videos you are looking for. Hope this helps!
good. i have a question here . if i sent a drawing to other disciplane how can send it.

just share your working folder on a server connected with cable or internet, then the others disciplines need to set their working folders on that folder that you just share.
Hi Bordz, For the fastest answers to your questions, I'd recommend reaching out to the Autodesk Partner where you purchased your Civil 3D. They will have technical specialists who are ready to work with you directly to provide any help you need. Thank you for your interest in the channel and recordings!

Thank you so much for the kind words! Best wishes on achieving all of your future goals!
I use data shortcuts often but it's always good to hear from you. can you please make a video on roundabouts?
Jeff, congratulations from Brazil!!!

Jeff is God-sent for C3D users!
Thank you so much!
Excellent Class, Really helpful👍
Brilliant video and so well explained
You are a Saviour 🙏🙏
Great Great Great tutorial. Tnk u Sir

this was interesting and very helpful thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
Jeff and Jerry. Two Incredible . 👍👍🌹🌹
Thank you Mehran for your support!
Lot of Tnx very much
I love the way you teach. What does the Promote option do?
Promote eliminates the reference by inserting the civil object into the drawing. (Similar to binding an external reference.)
wonderful presentation, again :)

WHAT DOES ASSOCIATE PROJECT TO CURRENT DRAWING DO?
Hello Jeff, a fantastic video, keep it up.
Must all the files be within the Working or the Project Folder?
I have question sir jeff. if i made an alignment and share it to other user by using data shortcut, can other users modify my alignment?
AECCDBSURFACETIN REFERENCE is broken. It says it could not be located when I try to create a surface reference.

Jeff, How do i erase a datashortcut or eliminate the link path of the dwg file to the datashortcut folder ??????
Delete the file in desktop
Suppose I receive data shortcut file from someone.. how to add the data shortcut file in my drawing
Hi, I have search about "To Add Referenced Text to Label Styles" But i didn't get any clip about, can you share about details in your videos plz.

Why is it so excessively complicated??? What was wrong with external referencing? Add file > specify file. Done.
