    I couldn’t care less what Amos reviews I just watch for the bass lines. I like to try to reproduce them with the gear I have after watching. I can get the sounds with my pedals but for some reason I still can’t play anything he writes. 😂

    We appreciate you so much! Still not gonna dive into the badwater, but it's great to see the various features. Plus, I'm VERY convinced that you can make anything sound amazing. So I always have to take your amazing reviews with a grain of salt.

    Thank bass gods, you’re back!
    Still fighting between discrete pedals straight up to my amp, or a bass preamp at the end of my chain and direct to the mixing table.
    Decisions are tough but you help in such a great way. Cheers!

    Awesome breakdown, Amos! Glad to find your video again. You ring a bell on the 250 Hz cut option. I'm relying on the Darkglass EQ approach; high, low and a 4-band mid 250 to 3K coverage. Having that plus a one-knob comp, two distortion options and 900 dark watts to reduce my pedal board. (add comma)

    Great review as always, big fan of the "Tone creation" segments. Happy to see you back on the channel!
    Walrus always makes gorgeous sounding and looking pedals, this one seems very practical too. I can certainly imagine it working really well on a small board, although I did have the same thoughts as you when you were reading off the frequency ranges, I like being able to down into the ~200-300 territory in the lows, while also into the 1.5-2.5k range for the high mids where the presence of a basses attack often sits, so the mids sweeps on this do seem a little odd, but you showed they can still accomplish a lot with the tone shaping. I'd be interested to hear their reasoning for choosing those frequency ranges.

    • @AmosHeller
      @AmosHeller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for saying that- I occasionally debate whether the tone creation bits are worth the trouble. Glad they’re helping!

    Lovely pedal Amos and of course you prove to be my favourite person for demoing pedals(which is no small feat as Nathan Navarro and Patrick Hunter are fantastic but they just don't go as in depth as you do to the settings and each one of your songs you do always have me bopping my head and being like "that's awesome"). Really hope to see you deep dive the infinity if you aren't sick of demoing Darkglass units. 😂❤️

      Nate and Patrick are great, and both inspirations to me. Glad you like the music! It takes the longest to get together, but I feel it’s worth it.

    The main takeaway for me was the phrase “knob forest” and the fact that I’d love a Yamaha custom shop ❤️ pedal sounds great though. I very nearly got one but ended up getting a Model FeT instead and absolutely love it!

    Very glad to see the best bass gear reviewer has returned! Quality, thorough and inspiring reviews. Inspiring to the extent that you got me to add an Alpha Omicron to my board which for reference, I'm an avid Microtubes X enjoyer and built a DG board, but WOW this Badwater is tasty!

    Terrific rundown. I absolutely agree that the EQ points could use some tweaking. The low-mids should go lower, 250 Hz, as you said. The high-mids go too high for my taste. According to Walrus, the bass controls frequencies below 200 Hz and the treble controls frequencies above 1000 Hz. Regarding your comment about about preferring the drive switch in the down position because that one has the most bass, I would say that the beauty of this unit is with that switch in combination with the blend knob. The idea is that you can focus the distortion in the mids or highs while getting more clean bottom from the blend knob. Kind of what Geddy goes for. Finally, you mentioned the compressor is only one knob. I don't recall seeing mention of it in the user manual (I can't understand why not) but there are apparently internal Attack and Release trim-pots.

    I've been using my old faithful SansAmp pedal for like 5 years now and I've been considering something like the darkglass, but the price point is so high and I was wondering how the Badwater would compare. Thanks for the video and would you recommend moving from the SansAmp to a pedal like this or darkglass?

  • @NMbass906
    @NMbass906 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wonderful video as always! If I didn't already have all of the stuff separately (eq/drive/compression etc) I'd probably consider this pretty strongly! As it stands I can't really justify this for the EQ section alone knowing I'd use less than half of it lol. The compressor is a nice touch but you gotta take my empress out of my cold dead hands before I take that off my board!

    • @AmosHeller
      @AmosHeller  ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure! Ultimately Board Beaters are about simplifying complex elements and shrinking the footprint. Aside from the EQ, they’ve had to sacrifice knobs for ease of use. Always wanted to check out an empress!

    Okay, complete noob when it comes to gear, and honestly I don’t trust anyone around where I live for credible information on anything. Haha why or when would you need a preamp if your amps EQ is already handling it all? I’ve seen players with Mesa M6 Carbines, amazing amps, with a noble preamp on their pedalboard, and I’m like “why?” That mesa already sounds great. Any info would be nice! Sorry, I’m not one for brevity.
