Because it demonic, its literally talking about how he feels like a new person but it’s the same him, in the beginning you can even hear him say that he hears them say something to him
This song is powerful to me bcuz the chorus is me fighting with myself thru alcoholism. “I don’t care I’m in love (with alcohol)” but my sane self who’s fighting for sobriety..”Stop before it’s too late, I know there’s too much at stake” This is on repeat right now. I love it. Just went to my first meeting yall ❤️
Excuse me, do you know the name of that other song they play on the Atlanta commercial?! It sounds like they're saying "ow", but it's a long echoed version of it
Notes from the frontman.... The tracks on Currents all share a common thread of personal advancement. "It's someone finding themselves in this world of chaos," Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker explained to NME. "At different times in life I've felt like it's time to say goodbye from some form of myself that's been hanging around for a while, you just feel this urge to move on, like a herd of antelope. They're just standing there in a field eating grass for however long, and then all of a sudden they start moving. You feel like that as a person sometimes. Where it's just time to move on." This is the closing song and its lyrics about making the same old mistakes suggest his metamorphosis should be read with caution. "That's the last chapter," said Kevin Parker. "It's like the final battle - or the final stand-off between optimism and pessimism. You feel like you've evolved into a new person but at the same time you've gone full circle. You feel like this brand-new person but in the end nothing's been changed because you're making the same mistakes." So, looks like the whole going back to old addictions and bad habits while trying to be someone new thing, is it, pretty much. The title is straight-forward, lol. I dig it more now. Donald Glover's Atlanta intro brought me here as well.
Did you noticed that there were four men in the car but only three went through the door? And the fourth wasn't in the car at the end anymore. I just like a lot this song and this video. It has... something special for me.
Four guys are all iterations or aspects of the same individual as he cycles through the same negative patterns and errors in his life. He walks through the doorway three times (the doorway being shaped like the letter pi, which symbolizes the circle) before arriving at the fourth, current "version" of himself here in the present.

has anyone noticed that the first guy who was already on the truck at the beginning simply disappears? Also, since theorizing here is free, it seems to me the three guys are on a "kind of three stages of relationships": guy with flowers beginniing, couple fighting middle, finding your self a dog to mend loneliness guy ending
First guy - Surprised and unknowing, Had to be led to transport. Second guy - flashes prior to negative exchange with woman. Confused. Goes to transport on his own after. Third guy - sees it coming and accepts it. Puts dog leash on bar and waits. I don't have a theory to why, but that's what happened. I've thought it was some form of vengeance for poor male relationships, but that doesn't seem to fit exactly.
fael - I've watched this vid a handful of times, and yeah I just noticed that ! The idea of "different stages of relationships" sounds pretty good, so.... could the 4th guy have been representing "baggage"? Like he was a previous guy that one of the girls still had some baggage about? Maybe that's why he's gone at the end... everyone exorcised their demons through this process, so the "baggage" was resolved too.
Folks, the guys are all aspects or life stages, iterations of the same person. He has to walk through the doorway to repeat the cycle three times before arriving at his current existence (the fourth or "present" man).
The guy in black represents the "death" of their past relationships carrying the other dudes 2 their fate so the girls can "bury" them...he relaxed until it was time 4 him 2 do his thing then disappeared. Each girl has a different way of releasing her guy (axe, ball/chain etc). And the dog...well, he was innocent so he lived.
I can just hear them now "How could you let us down?" But they don't know what I felt Or see it from this way around Feeling it overtake All that I used to hate Wonder what if we trade I tried but it's way too late All the slides I don't read Two sides of me can't agree When I breathe in too deep Going with what I always longed for Feel like a brand new person (But you make the same old mistakes) I don't care I'm in love (Stop before it's too late) Feel like a brand new person (But you make the same old mistakes) I finally know what is love (You don't have what it takes) (Stop while it's not too late) (I know there's too much at stake) (Making the same mistakes) And I still don't know why it's happening (Stop before it's too late) And I still don't know Finally taking flight I know you don't think it's right I know that you think it's fake Maybe fake's what I like On this side of the rut I'm thinking like what I'm thinking it's worth the fight Soon to be out of sight Moving it out this time Going with what I always longed for Feel like a brand new person (But you make the same old mistakes) I don't care I'm in love (Stop before it's too late) Feel like a brand new person (But you make the same old mistakes) I finally know what is love (You don't have what it takes) (Stop before it's too late) Man, I know that it's hard to digest But baby this love is so different from the rest And I know it seems hard to accept But you've got to do it, and she's got her regrets And I know that it's hard to digest I really know this shit is as good as it gets And I know it seems hard to accept But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets Feel like a brand new person So happy to know that it's right In a new direction So happy to know I've come to fall Stop thinking that the only option was Feel like a brand new person I finally know what it's like Stop thinking that the only option was So happy to know I've come to fall Stop thinking that the only option was And I know it's hard to describe Stop thinking that the only option was So happy to know that it's right
When he said. i feel like a brand new person.. that was quite the suttle suttle drop. You guys are masters at the suttle but wow amazing catchy songs. brilliant work.
The video is about how those guys eventually make the same old mistakes that they had recovered from. The women symbolize their dark desires, an addiction, a sense of repeated impulsive enjoyment. Notice how the the nameplate reads 'Pi' which signifies transcendence. The video starts with the women picking up men and seducing them to return to their old habits and let go of anything different they are trying to do with their lives. I am guessing the fourth guy represents someone to relate with, basically when the first guy sees him he feels he is not alone,. After stripping them the women offer them a ball, a chain and an axe. Notice the expressions of those people when given the objects. The first guy is a little surprised while the woman glares knowingly at him, the second is content and accepting and the third one understands it(nods head). I believe this represents the fact that they are slaves to their addiction(ball and chain) and even even given an axe they wouldn't free themselves because that is what the truly want, and that's what the women show that beneath everything , stripped of everything, that is their basic desire. The portal again in the form of Pi, takes them in while the dog is left out, again signifying that the person has given up his duties and returned to indulgence, finally left in their world of addiction, by showing the burning of the portal. Notice that the fourth guy is present just before the bare scene when they are given objects. It could be to show that the fourth guy doesn't finally give in to his desires or is not an addict, only a person who indulges sometimes.
I see so much of myself in this. Have a lot of plans in new relationships, still end up being a passenger to either their plans or my bad plans. Great song and I think you have the right take on it.
Just saw them at Osheaga in 2019 and I got to say that their set brought a part of me back to life that I thought it died. But this song made me feel whole again with joy and happiness. If you are going to a tough moment, just listen to this song and I promise you, everything will be better. Just sit, relax, close your eyes and play some Tame Impala
I get it. Like the ghosts of Christmas past intervening with the typical guys fucking up in the typical ways. The ball (the baggage), the chain (not letting go), the ax (to free yourself), and the doorway (to change, transform). The dog remains the same because animals are innocent. Oh, the 4th guy never woke up (metaphorically).
My neighbor has Rihanna's album with this song on it. I could hear her playing it all the time. I was hooked on the music, couldn't make out what the lyrics was saying but I loved the beat. Looking up Rihanna and found Tame Impala and I love both versions of it. I'm glad Rihanna didn't change anything because she would have messed up what's already a perfect so. Cant get the beat out of my head! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song! Rihanna actually brought me here. I was loving it and found out it wasn't her song so I HAD to check out the original. I'm not disappointed. ;)
"But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets." I'm thinking the girls are demons/manifestation of addictions. They interrupt the path the guys are on (the one guy has the flowers, the other guy is with a girl, the one guy is just trying to walk his dog) and take them away from their lives on a miserable journey. In the end they're enslaved (the ball and chain, not sure about the ax), they're stripped bare and lose their identity. Note the license plate on the truck. It's the same symbol as the portal at the end and could be seen as representing Pi, which among other things represents transcendence. The demons promise transcendence of everyday life through addictive behavior (drugs, alcohol, porn) but in the end the guys are consumed. That's my take at least. ymmv.
I believe the symbolism of PI is to the cycle (circle) of addiction. PI is an irrational number meaning that it never ends. It's used to calculate the diameter or circumference of a circle. Much like the people who are stuck in their circle of addiction, they are irrational. Preoccupation, ritualization, compulsion, shame, guilt, despair, and then swearing it all off to become a new person, but only to return to start the circle again by carrying out the same old mistakes. The men (addicts) and the women or sirens (their ritual) led me to saying the addiction is sexual. They have an inability to create and/or nurture lasting meaningful relationships because of their addictions. For all of us mortals the end is death, but addicts tend to meet their fate sooner at the hands of their own compulsive dangerous behavior.
I agree with everything (especially the π and cyclical repetition connection) but I tend to think the four men are just aspects of the same individual, entering and re-entering the doorway (also shaped like the symbol π) as they cycle through their old errors again and again.
I dont understand why 849 people didnt like this video... Is perfect, and match perfectly whit the song, the witches as your demonds, always making you doubt about following your dreams,or staying in the confort zone. that´s my opinion.

It’s the best cause the song makes no sense
All the women in this video are beautiful, but the one in the burnt orange dress is gorgeous, and the song is out of this world
This song is powerful to me bcuz the chorus is me fighting with myself thru alcoholism. “I don’t care I’m in love (with alcohol)” but my sane self who’s fighting for sobriety..”Stop before it’s too late, I know there’s too much at stake”
This is on repeat right now. I love it. Just went to my first meeting yall ❤️
You got this!
I can relate as well..Hope you doing ok rn! ❤️

This song taught me how to "feel" again
Only song who can relax me.
As a producer every instruments are well executed.
Whenever i fall in love, i listen this song.
This song is beautiful and tragic at the same time and could never be replicated again, true masterpiece.
the song is the theme from the new FX show Atlanta, that's what brought me here! I listened to more of Tame Impala songs, I'm a fan!
Me too! 😎
same, I was just watching the Altanta commercial and went searching for this song.
welcome to the club 🌻✌
Excuse me, do you know the name of that other song they play on the Atlanta commercial?! It sounds like they're saying "ow", but it's a long echoed version of it
Şarkının insanın üzerindeki etkisi bambaşka bir büyü .! ❤️🙏
türk dinleyen varmış beni bambaşka biyere götürüyor
real!!!!!
I feel bad for the people who will never hear this masterpiece
I found it 7years too late but it feels brand new
Notes from the frontman....
Where it's just time to move on."
This is the closing song and its lyrics about making the same old mistakes suggest his metamorphosis should be read with caution. "That's the last chapter," said Kevin Parker. "It's like the final battle - or the final stand-off between optimism and pessimism. You feel like you've evolved into a new person but at the same time you've gone full circle. You feel like this brand-new person but in the end nothing's been changed because you're making the same mistakes."
So, looks like the whole going back to old addictions and bad habits while trying to be someone new thing, is it, pretty much. The title is straight-forward, lol. I dig it more now. Donald Glover's Atlanta intro brought me here as well.
the video made a lot more sense now. thanks for sharing this.

This whole song is perfect. But admit it, that last minute or two of the song just hits differently.
this song is pure gold and this video is flawless...
This is dope asf bro I’m mind blown
Did you noticed that there were four men in the car but only three went through the door? And the fourth wasn't in the car at the end anymore. I just like a lot this song and this video. It has... something special for me.
Four guys are all iterations or aspects of the same individual as he cycles through the same negative patterns and errors in his life. He walks through the doorway three times (the doorway being shaped like the letter pi, which symbolizes the circle) before arriving at the fourth, current "version" of himself here in the present.
this shit is so hypnotic. so in love
Freedah have it on a loop like 100x. Exactly my mood in music. Want to pull the ejection lever on this shit ass earthly existence with this song looping in the background.
I found the Lord and finally got sober on the 1st January 2024 after losing almost everything and this album was the soundtrack to those 5 days of no sleep and shakes, I made it to work each day after long dark nights with the strength and power of JC to sustain me and this Man's music was the soundtrack. I swear on my Life I heard the sound of God and Angels in this music and it will stay with me until the grave Amen. That whole Album is ethereal Magic 😎♥️🙏

I love how music can touch our soul no matter the genre just music #2023 new fan
This song takes me to a diffrent dimension and makes me feel high.
This track is sooo f***ing dope! FEEL LIKE A BRAND NEW PERSON!! 😜
Five years later and it’s still a Bop
I can just hear them now
"How could you let us down?"
But they don't know what I found
Or see it from this way around
Feeling it overtake
All that I used to hate
Wonder what if we trade
I tried but it's way too late
All the signs I don't read
Two sides of me can't agree
When I breathe in too deep
Going with what I always longed for
Feel like a brand new person
(But you make the same old mistakes)
I don’t care I’m in love
(Stop before it’s too late)
Feel like a brand new person
(But you make the same old mistakes)
I finally know what is love
(You don’t have what it takes)
(Stop before it’s not too late)
(I know there’s too much at stake)
(Making the same mistakes)
And I still don’t know why it’s happening
(Stop while it’s not too late)
And I still don’t know
Finally taking flight
I know you don't think it's right
I know that you think it's fake
Maybe fake's what I like
Point is I have the right
I'm thinking in black and white
I'm thinking it's worth the fight
Soon to be out of sight
Knowing it all this time
Going with what I always longed for
Feel like a brand new person
(But you make the same old mistakes)
I don’t care I’m in love
(Stop before it’s too late)
Feel like a brand new person
(But you make the same old mistakes)
I finally know what is love
(You don’t have what it takes)
(Stop before it’s not too late)
Man, I know that it's hard to digest
But baby this story ain’t so different from the rest
And I know it seems wrong to accept
But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets
And I know that it's hard to digest
A realization is as good as it gets
And I know it seems hard to accept
But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets
But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets
Feel like a brand new person
So how will I know that it's right?
In a new direction
So how will I know I've gone too far?
(Stop thinking that the only option was)
Feel like a brand new person
I finally know what it's like
(Stop thinking that the only option was)
So how will I know I've gone too far?
(Stop thinking that the only option was)
And I know it's hard to describe
(Stop thinking that the only option was)
So how will I know that it's right?
Damn, those lyrics are deep as hell. I can relate to trying to change but always doubting myself in the pursuit of change.
Yoana Luv thanks
Yoana Luv Yoana Luv some of these are wrong. It’s “one by one, every trait” in the first verse. “Not thinking in black in white”. Feel like a brand new person, I finally know what it’s like. Then it’s “a realization is a good a a guess.” And (stop thinking you’re the only option)
Yoana Luv à
Cheers to the new year and hoping I will not make the same old mistakes..
Ironic that at first I didn't like this song, then it became...addicting.

same here, took me about 2-3 listens and now I'm addicted.
has anyone noticed that the first guy who was already on the truck at the beginning simply disappears?
Indeed. "But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets."
fael - I've watched this vid a handful of times, and yeah I just noticed that !
What made you think theorizing is free here?
Folks, the guys are all aspects or life stages, iterations of the same person. He has to walk through the doorway to repeat the cycle three times before arriving at his current existence (the fourth or "present" man).
I liked the connection to pi: the front license plate, the flaming gate, and even how there was three women, one truck, and four dudes (3.14).
did you watch death not dude ?
I noticed the pi in the front, at the same time the pi is a lot like the flamed door too. Perhaps they wanted that asociation
Nerds.
Question! Where did the fourth guy go in the video??
The guy in black represents the "death" of their past relationships carrying the other dudes 2 their fate so the girls can "bury" them...he relaxed until it was time 4 him 2 do his thing then disappeared. Each girl has a different way of releasing her guy (axe, ball/chain etc). And the dog...well, he was innocent so he lived.

Memento Mori siktiret, gizemini korusun

this is beautiful
Great song and I think you have the right take on it.
sir , your theory is glorious !
Your theory makes me literally watch the video again
Thank you!
That makes perfect sense but how would you figure that out :0
Absolute magnificent masterpiece of word and music. Love the tick up 4:49...mesmerizing song.
They give u such unexplainable vibes. Good vibes that is.
Thanks Rihanna for turning me onto Tame Impala!
this is such a perfect song to listen to when your high its just a vibe.
Just saw them at Osheaga in 2019 and I got to say that their set brought a part of me back to life that I thought it died. But this song made me feel whole again with joy and happiness. If you are going to a tough moment, just listen to this song and I promise you, everything will be better. Just sit, relax, close your eyes and play some Tame Impala
i love that this song is so long, i feel gratified.

I watched this when I was high and I gotta say, one of the greatest experiences of my life. Brilliant visuals man
Even though I listened millions times that song -cause its my entire life song- but never memorize the words and play along with while its playing.
I do the same to my neighbors! Lool

All alone beautiful Uber drives nights and this song ❤️ 2015 memories
That's my take at least. ymmv.
+JJ Surma Damn bruh.
+Nathaniel Saenz Exactly.
Wow amazing how you were able to interpret that. 👍🏻
👍🏾👍🏾 here take a couple of these. Thas was well thought out
This is knowledge
Never gets old
Why does the song match this video so perfectly
Chris Reed woah
I agree with everything (especially the π and cyclical repetition connection) but I tend to think the four men are just aspects of the same individual, entering and re-entering the doorway (also shaped like the symbol π) as they cycle through their old errors again and again.
Thank you tame impala for making this great song one of my all-time favorite songs
