    Hey Fraser, the big grin says it all !! I guess you are so happy with this brand new instrument - so do we. Its sound, the brilliance, the dynamics -> simply amazing. I like the sound of the three tine pianos (Fender Rhodes), I'm in love with these sounds. But the grand pianos are really BIG, I mean BIG. Great job, I like it - keep on going, Fraser

    Congratulations on the acquisition of the MP11SE! It really is a superb instrument - I don't think there is another electric/electronic piano that comes close to it (if there is, it is not very well known and on the whole, I don't think there is another maker whose digital pianos come close to the higher specification digital pianos of Kawai).
    Last I checked, the MP11SE was superior technically and mechanically to the VPC1 (the pure piano controller) which is a shame as the best pure piano controller from Kawai should trump their best multi-purpose midi controller/keyboard but it probably shows the direction Kawai wants to take digital keyboards in. Anyway, let's hope Kawai updates the VPC1 to the same or higher specification of MP11SE for the benefit of pianists who do not need the extra functions of MP11SE.
    Be that as it may, MP11SE is only certain to bring a huge smile to the pianist who is lucky enough to have it.

    soundpossibilities are great and the mechanics also, congrats. At the same time I miss a bit the ratty tatty with its really authentic sound for a public boogie piano. But this is truly "SE".

    Great addition Fraser but where is the Ratty Tatty Piano on the Kawai ? I love the Clavichord but not particulary the ones you tried. +1 by the way

    • @dougbrowning82
      @dougbrowning82 ปีที่แล้ว

      The clavichord as presented here is quite loud. Actual, acoustic clavichords are low volume instruments, best suited for private practise or composition at home. Many organists of the day practised on clavichords, especially pedal clavichords.

    Seems that you chose a great instrument! I still use my old KAWAI MP10 (together with Pianoteq) but I heard that the MP11SE has a better action.

  • @DavidWood2

    SE is Second Edition; the MP11 SE was a mild update of the original MP11. The SE has some cosmetic updates, two new grand piano voices and an improved pedal unit.

    Personally all I really want in an easily portable economical electronic keyboard,
    is one good piano, and a decent church organ. I'm getting the Yamaha NP-12.

    Nice little addition! We also use a Kawai MP something in the big band where I play trombone. I'm curious what my best friend would think about it, his critique on most digital pianos is that "they try too much to sound like a Steinway & Sons". The Rhodes also doesn't sound that bad, they're in my experience by the way more difficult to play (I got a Mark II with the plastic keys). I guess you can edit the presets for more and less effects on them? The Wurly and Clavinet are still on my wishlist, that means: the original instruments ;-). The first "modern" electr(on)ic piano sound like it should sound like the DX7's "Full Tines" FM synthesis piano, but it sounds too complicated: the DX7 is just a simple mono synthesiser...
    But in the end: the most important is a good keyboard you feel comfortable with, sounds are replaceable pretty easy nowadays. I like the traditional black rectangular case, I guess it fits well in Vanessa's style, maybe replace the red LEDs with white ones? ;-)
    And I'm happy to hear of course that the ratty-tatty grand will still be coming on in the future! A digital piano is very useful in many cases, the true instrument keeps being the most beautiful!

  • @Stelios.Posantzis
    @Stelios.Posantzis ปีที่แล้ว

    Two things:
    a) I don't know how the MP11SE is actually made but if I were to judge from other similar models, it is a heavy beast (probably the heaviest) and its weakest point is right at the front centre of the keyboard where most of the action happens so would make sure it is well supported underneath that section. I'd say the best stand for it - if the stand is on is not an original Kawai stand intended for it - would be in the shape of a very sturdy table.
    b) It must not be forgotten that because of its weight and the mechanical action, it requires respect when moving about so a premium, very well cushioned travel case is a must. It must be treated as an instrument during transportation - not as baggage.
    Side note to b): Because of the mechanics, after a long time, there will be some wear so it will require some maintenance (read: action regulation). While it will not be as involved as a true piano regulation (fart fewer bits to adjust) it will be needed. The happy part here is that as the keys are wooden, there will not (should not) be (m)any plastic parts to replace that will be impossible to procure.

  • @Stelios.Posantzis
    @Stelios.Posantzis ปีที่แล้ว

    2:44 I don't think it is anything more complicated than an organ is to an organist - quite far from it in fact. I do not have direct experience of the MP11SE but I would expect the features not to be too different from the lower models or earlier versions. In that respect, most of the features (i.e. button and knobs) are just there to tweak the sound. This probably means that once you find the sound you like (I mean as a solo player) then it's pretty much fit and forget. Of course it has a range of various keyboard instruments it can emulate but the same principle applies in each case. Other than that, any advanced features certainly come in handy, but one would get this machine for the quality of the basic features combined with the superb mechanics. A superb mechanism alone would not be enjoyable much if the digital wizardry it got married to were not up to scratch. In the lower and older versions, the sound department may have been a little lacking (for a digital instrument) but I expect in this iteration it would not be subject to the slightest criticism.

    I have this model over 4 years. Of course it is ultimate and there is no other model with full size wooden keys rocking exactly like in grand piano. At least not in this "portable" format. On a side note - it is rather heavy keyboard action (above average force required to play). Keys are too slippery at least for me. It has actually too many sounds and banks available. Just piano sounds would suffice. BTW, keyboard stand for this spiano must be also heavy and rigid as hell. You can see this model on my channel if anyone interested.
