How sad. My Mom never ever said that I was pretty. There were no hugs or kisses, ever. She never taught me how to bake, cook or sew. She was great at them all. Saying I love you was not in her vocabulary.
I stayed out of the house and was a tomboy. I was an only child.
Married 3 times to no avail. I did have a daughter and I hugged, kiss her and told her everything that I didn't hear. I love you.
Judy, your mom sounds just like mine. I never realized how bad my upbringing was until I had children of my own and couldn't help kissing and hugging them and loving them...and then I realized, I never got any hugs or kisses or bedtime stories growing up. I'm in my 40s now and just finding my inner confidence.
@@Laura_B__ Found out my mom was a paranoid schizophrenic later in my adult life. My Dad was never allowed near me and he loved kids. I missed that, too. We are strong and can do anything. Pray.
@Laura, It's not true, what you felt I felt too. That's in 1960s. I don't remember my parents hugging or kissing me, sitting down to talk to me. But I know now that they loved and cared for me. But when we are kids this makes us feel unloved and not cared for. It's just in those days parents had been themselves brought up that way, only as infants we were cuddled and kissed. Once a child, in those days, if you all can recollect, it was a strict upbringing. Your mom must have loved the Tom boy in you, so she didn't think of teaching you the cooking baking etc?? We do not know their thoughts while we surmise on our own that they didn't love their kids. I hugged and kissed my children, spent loads of time with them, just like you all. But so did all my friends. It's just that the times keep changing. My children pet my grandkids more than I did, gifts are a plenty as is love expressed in excess🙂. Times change, our parents loved us, if not we wouldn't be what we are today. Let's be grateful to them, times were tougher then. Than now.❤️
Similar. But she could not cook and was a flirt. But I had 2 big brothers to look out for me. Her moods... as a kid I said she was was predictably unpredictable. You knew it would come and it was terrifying but you never knew when or which one of us.
I am so sorry you had to live this too. I don't think it's generational, I am a millenial and my childhood memories do not include love from my mom. My mother was a narcissist plain and simple, tried to manipulate things her way until the very end. The last thing she did before she died was steal money from me and lie about it, destroying my relationship with 2 younger siblings in the process. She committed suicide after that by not telling anyone that her breast cancer had come back. Now I am left without resolution--how can I forgive her for something that she couldn't even forgive herself for? I wept throughout this video. What a lovely, strong, beautiful woman to awaken so late in life and allow love to soften and light her life. For me, for now...I am loving more than I ever imagined I could be. Love is life's greatest gift.
I watch her clips over and over..because she is the MOST beautiful..the spirit..the wisdom..I am 71 and she motivates ME!!!!!!

What a beautiful story that I could relate to. I was treated very bad by my mother. I didn’t understand it as a child, I was only hurt by it. As an adult, I realized that my mother (who was also treated badly by her adopted mother), didn’t like herself. And, I looked like her and was the most like her, therefore, she didn’t like me. I forgave my mom and felt very sorry for her. She could not give what she did not have. My scars will always be there, but I am strong, compassionate, and empathetic because of my mom.

You are not alone. Love is all around you, always, like a soft and warm blanket for no matter how cold the winter may come. Big hugs!
So true! a mother who didn't get the love and affection needed from her mom, can't give her child the love that he needs!
It's terribly hurtful and you always expect from her to show you the love that you needed, but you gotta move on at some point and learn by yourself how to give the love that you didn't get.
I believe as long as you are aware of that you can change the toxic cycle and be a better mom!

I too can relate...the good news is that I had my dad's personality, and so was able to be a better version of myself. There were struggles, but I managed. PS I paint as well...very therapeutic🎨😊. Take care to any who is struggling...you will find yourself❣
My mother is similar to yours... and something changed in me by watching these videos... I'm 28 now, so I can understand things I couldn't before and take actions towards the right direction... thank you for helping me realize that ❤

That happened to me. My mum telling a sales assistant (I was 10): "no matter which coat I buy for her, she is so ugly and without grace!!!" She has always chosen for me the worst dresses that didn't made me look feminine. Such an unhappy child, teen, grown up girl.
No boyfriend was "for me"...and she pushed them away from me..
she tried by all means to cancel my auto esteem.
These are painful things you carry along your whole life.
With 68 I'm alone, successful and happy; I am proud of myself because I'm a sweet caring person. Nothing can make you a bad soul if you don't want it.

A lot of our parents had their own childhood traumas they never healed from. Maybe your mother never saw her own beauty... Much less be able to recognize yours. We arrive here to be all that we are. But first we must break out of the shell of all that we are not. Our parents are our teachers... Whether good or bad... They teach us wonderful lessons.

To carry the weight of her mother's belittling response to her wistful remark, for so long.. All cats are black at night... Until she painfully over came it and triumphed, when she finally came to terms with WHO SHE WAS AND WHY SHE WAS THE WAY SHE WAS. Amazing lady. RN
I just turned 63. I knew that I am an artist but was too afraid to work on my passion. So I dismissed it. My children turned out to be the real artists. This video gave me the reason to work on my art again. Thank you for the inspiration.

After listening to what you said about your mum put you through, I feel much better about mine...all my complaints against her have vanished coz she did not put me through anything even close to what you suffered. My mom was a passive aggressive type and made very subtle comparisons between me and my sister, which resulted in a very deep underlying pain that both of us suffer from inspite of being thick as thieves. But nothing my mom did will ever come close to what your mum did. The pain of having to live upto the expectations of someone who could never be satisfied...it’s breaks ones spirit ever so completely.

What a beautiful film and statement by Jenny. As a woman a human being she has flowered from her difficult life, Given me hope !! This short verse comes to mind, “ from the withered tree a flower blooms “ the death of our past thinking (beliefs) allows us to love ourselves, then the world is seen as it is, “beautiful”.

I don't know, and will know not for some time, but this could have been a life changing 8 minutes. I adore this woman. And is it just me, or is she just really beautiful? Obviously inside. The sparkle. But outside too. Like a ...like a painting.

As I turned 40 my aunt told me that now the best days in my life would begin....and she was right! It is so good to grow older and I'm happy with my life even I had hard times, very hard times. The French idiom "All cats are gray in the dark," appeared in a novel I read in college more than 50 years ago, and though I don't even remember which book, I now take it to be an admonition that other traits than appearance are far more important in relationships and in life. Although I find your appearance beautiful, I suppose your belief that you are not has perhaps steered you toward evolving other assets, talents and a philosophy. Your mother was cruel, yes, but we must remember that the cruel and hurtful actions of others are born of their own deep pain. We can't truly achieve peace and enlightenment until we can understand and forgive their cruelty.

This broke my heart. As a daughter. As a mother. It just broke my heart. What a beautiful smile she has. What beauty she creates. At least she has found herself at last. But how cruel she couldn't have be shown and known her worth from the beginning.

I saw this video of Jenny last of 3. I saw her as beautiful because she is. I am seeing her videos at 45 years old. I have made an absolute mess of my life. Seeing this gives me hope. Beauty really does come from within. You can be the most beautiful on the outside, but so miserable on the inside. For me, I was average looks, and now even average is fading. Even with all her wrinkles she is beautiful because of how she treats other people and shares herself. It really is how you connect. I am not connecting at all really. I am trying though. Relationships are the hardest thing for me.
Thank you for sharing this deeply moving message with us. You are so right - the true beauty comes from within. And it's a journey too - don't be too hard on yourself - we all walk a different path, and some arrive at the point of self love and peace before others. But if you continue to wake each new day, determined to love and be loved, things will start to shift.

This just shows the devastating impact parents can have on their children. I don’t think they realised it in those days as they didn’t want you to get above yourself. They were probably treated the same way by their parents and didn’t know any better. It’s very sad.

I had a hideous mother also. Mean, cold, abusive... I grew up thinking I was unattractive, overweight, and rotten. I'm FAR from any of those. It took me decades of painful, self-healing to feel and know these things. Best "work" I've ever done.
This woman is brave and aware. She shares some beautiful insights.
And it isn't always easy 'work', is it?! But so worth every step of the journey.

This inspirational channel was playing for a while...and when I walked back into the room and looked at you, honestly - God's honest truth, my first sensation was wow, she's beautiful. I would love to meet her and enjoy the afternoon talking - I'd love to seem more of your artwork (I'm a fellow creative). I want to hug and infuse you with love. I hear you, regarding,: "I tried." My prayer is that we can forgive what happened to us, the cruelty, and our coping mechanisms. We do the best we know how. And, sometimes, that might not seem "good enough." All I know now, at 52, is to just bow, and forgive all of it...forgive God even, to be truthful. As one of the tender gentlemen said in one of these movies, "where there is forgiveness, there is happiness. I am love."

As a mother your children are beautiful to you in so many ways… It breaks my heart that this woman’s mother was so cruel ... my guess is her mother was desperately unhappy with herself. You have to be kidding me... the first thing that struck me was your beauty (physical face)... and the.aftef your lovely personality to go with it. Perhaps when you were little you were not the epitome of 'pretty' but many people grow into themselves and you turned out to be stunning and striking. She is a beautiful woman, inside and out. Some people are just not fit to be parents.
She is an artist and so am I. One thing I realized is that the expression of beauty within ourselves is what is translated into the artwork that we create. So when someone appreciates something that I have made they are appreciating a part of my soul's journey that went into it making it. They are seeing my beauty through my creation.
