Russel did not change his name. That's his birth name. He already mentioned that few times in interviews. He is an Indian Christian.

How is Russell Peters an Indian?? He maybe of Indian origin...but born in Canada. So he's a Canadian of Indian origin...not an Indian...regardless of whatever his name is. Is Bobby Jindal Indian. Nope, he's American. Stop being desperate about "famous" celebrities.
Plus Russells' parents are actually Anglo- Indian.🙄

I like Sumit Anand. And Peters didn't change his name. He's Anglo-Indian. He mentioned it in a bit too, I can't remember which one.
Also, I think Ansari just opened for Peters here in India a few days ago. He's definitely not making more money than him.
EDIT: I just checked, Ansari didnt open for Peters. They were performing around the same time in India, but not with each other. Ticket prices were almost double with Peters though, so...still safe to say who the big fish is.
Russell Peters' grandfather's name was Simon Peters, and he lived in Kolkata (India) till death. :)
So I guess that's no good reason to disown him.
However, I still don't consider him as an "Indian" comedian, as India didn't really contribute to him coming in the limelight.
P.S. Russell Peters does claim that he wanted to do stand up comedy specifically to represent the Indian community in the west.
He didn't change his name... he is Russell Dominic Peters by birth. He is born and raised in Canada and he is an Anglo-Indian. He is just a little more Indian than Nicki Minaj. So he doesn't count as Indian comedian.

Kunal Kamra - That guy is doing some ballsy shit, pushing the envelope, and buttons - of his audience. I like that in a comic. Dont know how well it will translate to you guys, because he talks about the current state of society and politics in India, but nonetheless...that's the one guy everybody needs to see in India, stand up wise.
