I was raised protestant and believe it or not it's very works based in many ways. Now it's not presented that way and a lot about where they may have been coming from was implied and often, unfortunately, from a place of fear in many churches. Looking back and trying to verbalize what was going through their minds after the fact can be difficult. It is implied in many churches that if you are a true believer the fruit of you faith will look a particular way and you will talk and walk a particular way and while we all have struggles, as the Bible says, it was implied that having struggles was a sign that you didn't have enough faith. Even the songs I remember from my childhood suggest that I should be happy, almost giddy, all the time because Jesus is in my heart. There are often many problems with how Christ is presented to others with salvation being presented almost as a transaction or legal proceedings rather than grace. I don't know them or their hearts then or now. Just felt the need to comment because all we can do is make assumptions about the how and the why.

They don't care if someone likes it or not. They're gonna worship their gods. Haters gonna hate. Christians are the only group here who try to suppress their beliefs to fit in with the world.
The west is mostly christian but from what I read on social media, christians are always scared of being judged by non believers. Well I think if they don't like western christian beliefs then they should pack up and return to whatever country they came from.

I am afraid to say that I nearly fell into this trap and at one point was on the edge of falling completely into becoming a bitter Atheist. But I thank God that the simple thought that "If I falter because of this, I'll spit on my father's memory". I very much believe that those words came to me from the Holy Spirit, because from there I was able to build my theology and faith and now I'm closer than I've ever been to beginning on the journey to where God has called me. The door hasn't opened yet, but I can feel in my spirit that it's just around the corner; and I pray that God prepares me enough to welcome the challenges that come with the next season of my life. At any rate, I just wanted to share that I get where Rhett and Link are coming from, but I'm sad that their faith didn't have a strong enough foundation that they fell. Of course our experiences shape our perspective and I know that there are racist people who claim to be Christians but I believe that a true follower of Christ doesn’t care who you are but will love you like Jesus loves. 1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.”

We should never get confused about "Acceptance" and "Love", one is what a friend or some colleague would feel towards you, just putting a smile on her face while seeing you stumble around, they don't love you to tell you the truth so they will only watch in "tolerance" as you destroy yourself.
Love is beautiful but is honest, if you love someone you will warn them of their misdeed and their wrongdoings, just being quiet while seeing them tumble in life is not love is contempt. And that's why our society is failing, we forgot what "loving" truly is.

Like a teenager receiving a stern speech about how much your grades are bad and you should stop fooling around and study, we would much prefer not to hear that. But your parents are doing that for your own good.
However, if your father put the blame on the bad grades on the teacher you would love that, but that wouldn't be right nor loving. Your parents would lose an opportunity for teaching you what is right, for appeasing you, so you think they are cool parents.
The same happens all around, the truth is usually harsh but still is the truth and in the beginning, it can be difficult but the payoff is immeasurable, a lie is sweet and easy on the mind but still is a lie, and accepting it can mean your literal death.
Telling the truth is loving, cause you're risking that the person you are telling it hates you, but you love this person so much that you don't want her to waste her chance in finding Jesus and a correct way of life away for meaningless pleasures of the flesh.

    • @lilchristuten7568
      @lilchristuten7568 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ok so I got to the point in the video where that issue came up.
The thing is all things are relative. When it comes to mental illness just as it comes to everything else, you do have to believe God more.
Some things can be dealt with immediately (this is easier for unbelievers because their faith isn't the thing that causes them to get healed it's the faith of the person helping them combined with the power of God), other things take time and a slow building of faith that comes from meditation of God's word.
The word of God is like medicine, sometimes you can take it once and be done, other times you can take it but then you need booster shots, and many times it's a perpetual dosage medicine that you take once, twice, three times, sometimes even 5 times a day for the rest of your life, because that causes a perpetual increasing of your faith.
The bible says that Abraham grew strong in faith giving glory to God. God promised Abraham that he would have a child when he was 75 years old, but it wasn't until he was 100 years old that he had Isaac, that means that for 25 years Abraham had to believe in God for his son.

Another reason why kids may be leaving the church, parents try to control their child’s choice and them! and kids resent that. As a parent we have to trust that God will do the work! We need to be the example of how God loves us for our children too. Having open dialog, communicating, teaching how the enemy works, teaching the way Christianity is attacked, and finding a good biblical church helps so much build that truth filled foundation.

Thank you so much for touching on the point about mental Illness. As someone who has lived with depression for most of my life, I had to learn that God loves me even during my moments of brokeness. When we tell people that more faith is the answer to depression, it invites greater shame, which comes easily to people with mental illnesses and that serves to make them feel like they cannot come to God in that brokeness.
Cry out to God in your brokeness. Praise Him in your emptiness. Cling on to Him when you feel like you have no reason to carry on living. This has honestly been a wondrous saving Grace and I thank God that He is working and He is good even in our suffering.

When Rhett said that he didn't WANT to believe that Hell exists or that non-believers would go there it really threw me off. 8:13 I think it helps to understand that it's not so much a punishment as it is the result of being separated from God. And you made that choice to continue to be separated from Him when you decided not to be reconciled with Him. It makes perfect sense to me. The only reason why someone would not want to accept it is because they just want to do whatever they want and live by their own rules. I totally get that, and I also struggle to submit to God sometimes. But don't try to justify your rebellion by painting it like He is being unfair or unjust when it's really YOU who doesn't want to submit.

It's not about "live by your own rules" as you suggest. It's about deciding for yourself what is right and wrong and not just listening to someone from thousands of years ago. It's about a choice, the Bible says we have a choice and we have free will, but do we? If we can't decide on our own without the threat of eternal damnation, is it really freewill? It's like someone holding a gun to my head and telling me to do something and if I don't do what they tell me then they'll shoot me, but its still my choice! The Bible has some horrible rules and some flat out stupid ones. Those rules where clearly created to control people, it's so obvious. And later Gideon the judge had to go to war against them as the Midianite people were not faithful to Yahweh and were attacking the Israelites when they first settled in Canaan after the exodus.
God constantly references the fact that people groups that are culturally wicked, and living against a lifestyle that images God.. Well basically he says the land vomits them out of the area.

It is a challenging time to raise children in today's society. Now more than ever us parents must intentionally pour into our children. Not of our own strength and knowledge, but by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. We must first, ourselves, be a pleasant place for the Holy Spirit to dwell so He can flow through us and pour into our children. We must pray diligently and live by the Word of God. Our kids belong to Jesus and we must ask him to allow us to be a vessel to raise His children to His glory and worship.

Big difference though, a few years ago I came to the end of myself and turned to Christ for what I believe was the first time. Since then, I have been overwhelmed by the work of God in my life and the work of the Spirit in my life has been an incredible blessing. Pray for Rhett and Link that that God will bring an understanding of who we are apart from God to their hearts and that they will turn to Him in real humility and faith.

I am not someone who believes all churches are good. I had a very unique upbringing where multiple members of my family were in a Christian cult for most of their lives. When I was an infant, most of them left the cult and joined more typical types of churches. But still, a few people in my family remain in that cult to this day.
Because of that, I grew up from a young age knowing that not all churches are the same and that some churches can be very damaging.
To me, hearing what Rhett and Link said, it sounds like they may potentially have grown up in one of those damaging churches.
Based on my experiences, I've come to the conclusion that the churches which cause damage to people and their faith are the ones which 1) use fear to manipulate people and 2) turn morality into a competition.
We aren't called to shame people or terrify people or show off our supposed moral superiority to people. We are called to go to Jesus for our worries. We are called to trust in Him. We are called to live our lives as close to how Jesus wants as we can
Focusing on other people's misbehavior is an easy distraction which allows us not to think as much about our own flaws. And focusing on other people's wrongdoings also shows a lack of trust in Christ.
If you are worried about your friend's misbehavior, it's fine to make your feelings heard, but then stop after that and leave the rest to God. It is your friend's choice of whether he will continue to sin or not. It's between him and God. Your role, at that point, is simply to set a good example, to NOT be an enabler, to offer support if he asks for it, and to generally treat him with kindness. To do anything else is to try to play God, with usually quite unfortunate results.
If you know anyone who has an addiction, you should understand this fact about human beings--you can't force someone to change their life for the better. Only they can make that choice for themselves. To try and force them will only drive them away from you, and potentially embitter them to the positive changes they need.

Grace is the free gift of God, it doesn't depend on our righteousness and 'good works'. But that doesn't mean we should not strive to lead a holy life. Living a holy life should be the overflow of the transformed heart and fruit of the Spirit and yes we will fall at times, that's why it's a journey of repentance and belief. But again, there will be times we fall but God has freely given us grace and forgiven us. I think sometimes we are too stubborn to accept that grace and try to work our way to somehow earn it which is impossible because we can never attain salvation through works of the law and it also makes sacrifice of Jesus pointless.

@WolvesTeeth I haven't come across a Bible verse which says 'if you're born again, you will thirst for righteousness' specifically, however it is true in a sense that when we are born again, God pours out His Spirit and puts a new heart in us as a result of which we will have new new desires led by the Holy Spirit in us. That being said, we are still in the flesh and if we are not careful, we might have a tendency to give in to the sinful desires of the flesh, hence denying yourself and being led by the Spirit is vital to Christian walk. Jesus said 'Deny yourself, carry your cross and follow me'. We should be deliberate and intentional in our Christian walk. Matthew 5:6 says - Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled - in my view, pursuing righteousness is a deliberate act as naturally we are more aligned to the desires of our flesh but the Spirit constantly strengthens us to walk in Holiness as a part of our daily sanctification process.

I grew up in a Christian home, but once I went to college, I strayed from God in favor of the liberal teachings of my college (though I never stopped believing in His existence, heaven or hell). During that time, I became feminist, pro-choice and pro-LGBT. I remember justifying to myself that abortion wasnt murder because we didn't know at what point a soul entered the body. I remember thinking to myself that if it wasn't against God's Word, I'd have no problem with homosexual marriage because I saw nothing wrong with it and it was just 2 people loving each other. I'd say the liberal definition of love is tolerating everyone and accepting them for who they are, except of course if they're Christians. There seems to be a specific set of morality codes with liberals, which is why many of them spout the same rhetoric such as "my body, my choice", "love wins" etc. In liberal spaces, you basically become indoctrinated to believe certain things are morally right and true, and anyone going against the grain is automatically labelled a bigot, homophobic, sexist, ableist, xenophobic etc. Also, what I've learned is that most of them have this "do whatever you wanna do, do what makes you happy unless its hurting someone else" philosophy. Again, christianity rarely gets that same leeway because our morals according to the Word of God will always counter liberals' beliefs (our objections to abortion, homosexuality, divorce, drunkenness etc. are "harming" persons in those groups, therefore we don't get to do or believe what we want). I hope that answers your question.

On the flip side- there are churches who preach the Bible- as well as administer to the needy and to travelers who bring the word of God to foreigners. The Assemblies of God are pretty good at doing that.
Just because you don’t believe in Hell and sin- does not mean it’s not real and it won’t happen.

@@Perennial1997 i mean i assume that if white people were racist they would feel comfortable mentioning that to me because i too am white… not to mention Rhett’s statistic on evangelical racists is bogus. We don’t even know HOW that stat was made. What did they ask evangelicals that confirmed their racism? Did they ask them “do you think black people are less valuable than white people?” Or did they ask “do you support BLM?” Because BLM is a terrorist organization that burned down cities and destroyed black owned businesses, then stole their donation money to buy mansions for their group leaders. So of course people don’t support them. And WHY oh WHY would someone confess “yes I hate black people” and WHY would the majority of people confess that? No the truth is that the majority of people (90% of people) are not racist, but because they dont support affirmative action, or anti-voting id laws, or blm, suddenly they are labeled racist. Meanwhile they don’t support that stuff because they believe black people are just as smart as white people so they don’t need affirmative action, or that black people are just as able to get an id as white people so stopping voter id laws for black people exclusively is patronizing.

I left my church because I had an argument with the worship pastor. I had been on the team for 2 years at the point. I’m from a very musical family and so often I would do harmonies and once in awhile have a solo. One week I had high school finals and declined the invite to do worship that weekend. He told me that I should be ashamed of myself and that it was my fault I was busy and that there was no point in being in the worship team unless I was able to go to youth group/church. I honestly thought he was joking at first with his overt statement since it was over text but I realized he was serious. I ranted an entire paragraph about how he didn’t take a loving approach, not even asking how I was doing spiritually and just made assumptions as to why I didn’t show up. I totally respected him saying that I should show up to church and youth group to show a spiritual dedication but I felt like in a sense, that it was a show. The band was super tight, the sound felt studio quality, everything was great for me as a musician, but I just felt like he viewed me as an asset and not a person with struggles. I viewed him as a father figure and it definitely strained my relationship with him. He eventually apologized and I forgave him but I took it as a sign to go in a different direction. Finishing my 3rd year of college now, I have definitely fallen in a secular direction but my mind is still curious about the character of Jesus and really wanting to view the walk differently than I have in the past. I felt like the youth group culture I grew up in was a very emotionally driven experience and not one founded in real ambition to follow Him. The people I went to my Christian HS with were completely different people at school than they were at camp, being apathetic and just went with the motions and it made me so angry all the time. I made it my mission to be passionate all the time. My idea of Christianity was one of adventure and not boring lol, that every moment of living would be made special and with lots of introspection. I felt like I was never being fed spiritually and so I fell away. I love your videos and it’s so nice seeing someone close to my age, that’s spiritually passionate sharing the gospel on TH-cam, live in the same country as me😊😊

I think that there is room for discussion for changing a church since even in the Bible that was something that was being discussed in the New Testament with the ones that strayed from the central message.
That's a church by church basis though, and it has to be done in a way where they change towards a more Bible centric view rather than the man-made extremes of legalism or whatever the new age movement is since both stray from what's actually in the Bible.
I'm not really sure about the whole racism thing honestly. The Baptist churches I've been in were nice (Louisiana and Texas), even with me being the only Asian there. To be fair though I didn't really hang out with folks generally in or out of the Church, so I tend to ignore social and group pressures naturally :P Anecdotal yes. Not saying this is some kind of debunking of whatever study they are citing. Just my experience similar to how they were speaking about it.
It's always fun hearing peoples thoughts on Christianity though. I don't know if much could be accomplished if a discussion were to stay strictly digital and distant, but it's fun regardless.

If you truly believe in Jesus and all that God has done for our world and our own lives... you also have to believe that He is perfectly capable of giving truth to our children. You have to be a safe space for your kids to ask scary and tough questions. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:13
“They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.”

““Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
