Mason Hatcher Well if you've noticed, their group is actually called "Loners" so it does make quite a bit of sense that the L would refer to Loner. But yeah they do roam into groups sometimes to scout out larger areas.

The very very first build are actually free to download if i remember correctly but there are vids of them on TH-cam. Most areas were about 3 times the size we got in the released product and of course they planned a bunch of other shit (infuse artefact powers to ammo, cars for transport a bunch of enemies and abilities for existing enemies stalkers with XX chromosomes and a bunch of extra maps) It always breaks my heart when i think about this since the ideas were great and the game had a soul and the new GSC lacks most of the original team.

The AI in this game always hits me as fairly impressive. It's not just the circling or ducking. NPCs kill each other all the time while you are somewhere else. A lot of this game has emergent, non scripted gameplay.. It's rough around the edges, but absolutely amazing on some stuff.

I miss this era of games. A solid decade of games that hold up well even 15 years later. Imagine the amount of masterpieces we would have now if the industry never changed.
yh games nowadays are just pump and dumps that force a shit tone of workers in your triple-A studio to work their ass off so the game looks good for marketing to pay a shit ton of Yters and others to play it and say it's good doesn't matter if the story is good or the atmosphere is compelling or the gameplay being good or even an interesting game idea just that the first 8 hours are great and then the game can go back to being crap after everyone has bought it repeat. in general things nowadays are made with less effort and heart put into them since corporation learnt how to market crap products before they had to make a great product to get a brand reputation only good ones are made by indie devs or modders who actually care about their work I think game companies realised if they make really good games no one will buy another version year on year so they make them good enough for marketing only. I noticed that most great games are older, that's why they give that old school feeling back when they were made with properly.

Higher difficulties aren't actually harder. It makes both you and the enemy more vulnerable basically. Complete mod actually makes the game easier in a lot of ways. I would recommend using AMK or some other mod instead. I guess it's too late for this playthrough, but for anyone else who might be trying SoC.
For anyone here that's curious to try this after seeing the STALKER 2 trailer, DONT DOWNLOAD THE COMPLETE MOD. It changes up the vanilla experience alot and isn't exactly faithful to the intentions of the developers. Get the Zone Reclamation Project instead
The graphics for the time is actually really amazing, I just got into this series just a day ago and I was quite amazed at the graphics. One thing that sets the "oldness" in this game is the lighting...on my monitor it's very noticeable....other than that I am quite surprised on how good this game looks :)

if you new gamers want to play this game nowdays (2022) try the "Stalker : Anomaly" , its a mod for Shadow of Chernobyl but it does increase the gameplay and fun 5x and does not change the main game story line, it just adds a lot good mechanincs to the game
I LOVE this game, this was one of the first FPS games I've played when I was a kid, it got me hooked, started it like 15 times, finished it like 6 or 7 times, twice on Master (that is the difficulty I found the most enjoyable as it's a decent challenge), but the whole atmosphere, setting and storyline is unique and gripping, I guarantee any FPS fan will find some enjoyment in playing this game. One of my all-time favorites! Modded or vanilla, both are a great experience to play through. As Splat said, if you haven't played it, you SHOULD DAMN WELL check this game out (oh, and start with Shadow of Chernobyl, the other ones just weren't as good as this one, IMO).
I was one of those who followed this game years before it released. The devs truly overpromised and underdelivered on this one. That being said, I still think it's a good game, especially by todays standards. Hell, it'd almost be GOTY material in todays world.
And for anyone who is new to the STALKER world in Cordon(starting area) in the village there is a nice pair of starting armor in a hole in a roof on the left side closest to the road, also near the train tracks on the right you can get some sweet gear as long as you can get past the anomalies. PS If you want to know more just ask me.
A freaken amazing open world RPG shooter game that really stands the test of time, if it is still this good can you even imagine how blown away gamers where in 2009? Darn I wish I had known about it back then...
I came back for the nostalgia - I just realised that this game is like Slime Rancher when compared to Stalker Misery! Everything is so bright and not horrendous.
Wow I played this in 2007 and it still looks good today! May I offer a suggestion though? I started playing STALKER Lost Alpha, they just updated it and it's a standalone mod (don't need Stalker to play it). They remade from scratch the original SoC and added a lot of thrown out concepts from early builds (added new areas, mutants, weapons, etc), as well as they ported CoP engine capabilities into LA so it looks even better, textures, physics, weapon upgrades, everything. It's the closest thing to a Remastered Stalker SoC that fans will ever get and I'm loving LA. The story is expanded as well, lore that was originally supposed to be canon. I highly suggest anybody reading this to check it out. They were working on it for like a decade and even got Sidorovich to voice act in some parts. The game looks beautiful and I just came here to see the comparison between vanilla SoC and LA.

Walker Calderon This game really is amazing. If you don't want to buy it just yet, there's a free stand alone mod out there which does not need the original game in order for you to play it. It's called Stalker Lost Alpha. Just make sure you use the torrent link as the one on moddb is not the full installer. There's tons of other mods for the game of course. I'm currently using Autumn Aurora 2.1 which makes the entire came a ton more creepy, better atmosphere, emissions make a return and the game is generally a lot harder. Basically, it's SoC's version of CoP's Misery mod.
F1zzzy90 for what it's worth... the moddb version is in 3 parts (plus a 4th dl which is the hotfix if my memory is accurate). So yeah... if you use the moddb download then read the instructions and get all the parts.
You've almost hit it right on the head. I really liked your Dying Light lets play because of it free-roam and really beautiful looking environment, later in the game it was less addictive. Now you took another game I still wanted to play or see, and it is free roam? Perfect.

It's also worth noting that enemies will see your flashlight if you have it on, allowing them to spot you from much further away and ruining any stealth bonus from bushes, crouching, etc. Also, one bullet to the head will kill any human enemy, so although the game doesn't give a damage bonus for stealth, it lets you get close for head shots with silenced weapons.

I've been watching the shadowrun thing you do with your friends for a while now, and I just so happened to click on your video when looking for a stalker lets play. Seeing how you did this, I'll definitely be sure to stick around.
You called the corpses 'deaders'. Do you have Planescape: Torment on the brain? Anyway, I'm really interested in seeing you play this. I never got past escaping the military base after you deal with the first brain guy. Anyway, anyone that is interested in this game, I would highly suggest reading the book it's based on: Roadside Picnic.The plot is pretty different, for example the Zone was created by an alien landing, not the Chernobyl incident, and the setting has this really weird Russian Everytown USA vibe to it. I mean that as plainly as I can, it feels like it takes place in an American town populated entirely by Russians. It's a fantastic book though, and it's pretty short. The only warning I would give is that it is extremely depressing.

I miss this era of games. A solid decade of games that hold up well even 15 years later. Imagine the amount of masterpieces we would have now if the industry never changed.
yh games nowadays are just pump and dumps that force a shit tone of workers in your triple-A studio to work their ass off so the game looks good for marketing to pay a shit ton of Yters and others to play it and say it's good doesn't matter if the story is good or the atmosphere is compelling or the gameplay being good or even an interesting game idea just that the first 8 hours are great and then the game can go back to being crap after everyone has bought it repeat. in general things nowadays are made with less effort and heart put into them since corporation learnt how to market crap products before they had to make a great product to get a brand reputation only good ones are made by indie devs or modders who actually care about their work I think game companies realised if they make really good games no one will buy another version year on year so they make them good enough for marketing only. I noticed that most great games are older, that's why they give that old school feeling back when they were made with properly.

Higher difficulties aren't actually harder. It makes both you and the enemy more vulnerable basically.
Complete mod actually makes the game easier in a lot of ways. I would recommend using AMK or some other mod instead. I guess it's too late for this playthrough, but for anyone else who might be trying SoC.

One of the most influential, under appreciated games in the last 10 years. Ive spent so many hrs with the series and mods glad you are visiting.
For anyone here that's curious to try this after seeing the STALKER 2 trailer, DONT DOWNLOAD THE COMPLETE MOD. It changes up the vanilla experience alot and isn't exactly faithful to the intentions of the developers. Get the Zone Reclamation Project instead

The graphics for the time is actually really amazing, I just got into this series just a day ago and I was quite amazed at the graphics. One thing that sets the "oldness" in this game is the lighting...on my monitor it's very noticeable....other than that I am quite surprised on how good this game looks :)

Oh god, Stalker. I loved this game. Still remember how I never saw that "Trade" button when you talk to people, not until far into the game.

if you new gamers want to play this game nowdays (2022) try the "Stalker : Anomaly" , its a mod for Shadow of Chernobyl but it does increase the gameplay and fun 5x and does not change the main game story line, it just adds a lot good mechanincs to the game
It's a mod for Call of Pripyat and it does change the story because it has its own.
I LOVE this game, this was one of the first FPS games I've played when I was a kid, it got me hooked, started it like 15 times, finished it like 6 or 7 times, twice on Master (that is the difficulty I found the most enjoyable as it's a decent challenge), but the whole atmosphere, setting and storyline is unique and gripping, I guarantee any FPS fan will find some enjoyment in playing this game. One of my all-time favorites! Modded or vanilla, both are a great experience to play through. As Splat said, if you haven't played it, you SHOULD DAMN WELL check this game out (oh, and start with Shadow of Chernobyl, the other ones just weren't as good as this one, IMO).

I was one of those who followed this game years before it released. The devs truly overpromised and underdelivered on this one. That being said, I still think it's a good game, especially by todays standards.

I can’t lie at first I thought your commentary was annoying. Then I actually started listening and really enjoyed it.
And for anyone who is new to the STALKER world in Cordon(starting area) in the village there is a nice pair of starting armor in a hole in a roof on the left side closest to the road, also near the train tracks on the right you can get some sweet gear as long as you can get past the anomalies. PS If you want to know more just ask me.

Wow I played this in 2007 and it still looks good today! May I offer a suggestion though? I started playing STALKER Lost Alpha, they just updated it and it's a standalone mod (don't need Stalker to play it). They remade from scratch the original SoC and added a lot of thrown out concepts from early builds (added new areas, mutants, weapons, etc), as well as they ported CoP engine capabilities into LA so it looks even better, textures, physics, weapon upgrades, everything. It's the closest thing to a Remastered Stalker SoC that fans will ever get and I'm loving LA. The story is expanded as well, lore that was originally supposed to be canon. I highly suggest anybody reading this to check it out. They were working on it for like a decade and even got Sidorovich to voice act in some parts. The game looks beautiful and I just came here to see the comparison between vanilla SoC and LA.

Walker Calderon This game really is amazing. If you don't want to buy it just yet, there's a free stand alone mod out there which does not need the original game in order for you to play it. It's called Stalker Lost Alpha. Just make sure you use the torrent link as the one on moddb is not the full installer. There's tons of other mods for the game of course. I'm currently using Autumn Aurora 2.1 which makes the entire came a ton more creepy, better atmosphere, emissions make a return and the game is generally a lot harder. Basically, it's SoC's version of CoP's Misery mod.

F1zzzy90 for what it's worth... the moddb version is in 3 parts (plus a 4th dl which is the hotfix if my memory is accurate). So yeah... if you use the moddb download then read the instructions and get all the parts.

You've almost hit it right on the head. I really liked your Dying Light lets play because of it free-roam and really beautiful looking environment, later in the game it was less addictive. Now you took another game I still wanted to play or see, and it is free roam? Perfect.

It's also worth noting that enemies will see your flashlight if you have it on, allowing them to spot you from much further away and ruining any stealth bonus from bushes, crouching, etc.
Also, one bullet to the head will kill any human enemy, so although the game doesn't give a damage bonus for stealth, it lets you get close for head shots with silenced weapons.
The game has an amazing atmosphere, so immersive

You called the corpses 'deaders'. Do you have Planescape: Torment on the brain? Anyway, I'm really interested in seeing you play this. I never got past escaping the military base after you deal with the first brain guy.
Anyway, anyone that is interested in this game, I would highly suggest reading the book it's based on: Roadside Picnic.The plot is pretty different, for example the Zone was created by an alien landing, not the Chernobyl incident, and the setting has this really weird Russian Everytown USA vibe to it. I mean that as plainly as I can, it feels like it takes place in an American town populated entirely by Russians. It's a fantastic book though, and it's pretty short. The only warning I would give is that it is extremely depressing.
