Sometimes I feel just so low, and everything is troubling me. Can’t seem to find a place to turn. Can’t seem to find any place to go. Once in awhile I meet a few people. And instead of asking very nice, they try to give me some advice. On maybe, how to act. On maybe, how to walk. On maybe, how to talk. They think they know where it’s at. They think they can think about Frustration (people always telling) Frustration (me how to act) Frustration (don’t want to hear from them) Once in awhile I meet a new girl, she looks so fine, I make my bid. Try my line, she looks at me and says, girl says, I can’t face her, she says she can’t be pleased by me, the girl has to tell me how I should act. Frustration (tell me how) Frustration (I should behave) Frustration (don’t want to hear from these girls) Oh Lord. Oh no. I can’t stand no more. Frustration (people) Frustration (always trying to tell me) Frustration (how they think things are) Frustration. Frustration. Frustration (bye, bye people).
ha!! hi,Tilla.I stand by the original message of this song: don't let people place their limitations in your mind. don't argue with them. don't squander your energy just"bye, bye, people" . thanks for the support , Tilla
No doubt about it. The number of *jawdropping* records from that year is uncountable. I mean off the top of my head, just here in the uk save my soul by Wimple Winch, the Winston's Fumbs 45, I must be mad by Craig, Making Time by The Creation, Glendora by Downliners Sect all came out within the space of a month in June/July. Don't wanna sound like a 'i haet rappity hop' old timer moaner but it's hard to imagine that sheer density of incredible releases ever happening again- in ANY genre.
Hearing this for the first time, and I'm already obsessed. How was this not a huge hit? So psychedelic and beautiful. Love the intro especially, and the bass!
Yes soo Psychedelic & it was 1966 the Summer of Love hadn't started yet, but this song is ahead of its time. Music was now heading in that direction. The 60's were now coming alive those were really great times, especially for music. With the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper, and the the scandal with Jerry Lee Lewis, Rock and roll almost came to a screeching halt. The 60's once again brought the revival of Rock Music back into the forefront.
Astounding tune and performance. Painted Ship's 3 are still my top fave garage records after years of obsessively digging and listening. I met a guy a few years ago who runs and djs a garage night and he also, without hesitation said 'best garage band ever'. I really hope you're reading this, feel the love. It's the obsessives and musicians who love you 😊
This band would get good airplay in the mid 60's at the local Vancouver radio stations eg. CFUN. I had the fortune of seeing them live at University of BC - Hebb Lecture Theatre I believe it was. Some 200 students enjoyed a noon hour concert.
Love this track, which i've had on replay for a few years. When i listen to the vocals in the verse, it always reminds me of the style adopted by Lawrence, the frontman from UK 80s post punk/indie jangle pop band Felt.
The frustration I feel is because I don't hear from you that much any more. The painted ship set sail from Canada in 1966 for distant shores. It was reported sunken in the deep sea of garage bands. 13 years ago it was discovered by underwater DJ, Mean Mojo Mathias.
@@thomassmith8721 hey man, good to hear from you! Currently on vacation in beautiful Italy so not much youtubing. Will be back later with stuff mate! Hope you are doing good! Cheers!
fyi... in response to requests at my facebook page for more info on the band I've posted an interview here: facebook: The Painted Ship.a great job with the interview by Anders. some cool pics and inside info about the songs( the trouble I had getting Frustration to ears etc). again, big thanks to everyone for your support ..appreciated more than you could know. Will.
A mean keyboard sound and the band certainly has a very definitive sound, and powerful indeed. The Painted Ship which is in contrast to the Crystal Ship, but no doubt it has its own meaning. The Painted Ship which is in contrast to Painted Ladies in 1974 to Ian Thomas song. This song is awesome and is verging on the Psychedelic overtones. That's why it's...Far-Out!!!
spoke to one of the band members they have reformed, sadly one of them has passed but its still the other three original members, its on utube, she said yes is even better yes you read right even better canada only release though sadly.could of sold big but the lyrics were seen as a bit rude for radio i think, blinding tune not that rude lol but one of the finest sixties garage tunes your ever hear.great bands never ever get forgotten this band certainly wont.made famous worldwide partly because they have been bootlegged so much, they deserve a proper reissue on legit analogue 45s great post.
the painted ship are still playing a new gig is on utube an lp has come out with out takes & released versions from the 60,s.they are a top band.also if you wanna hear the best & rarest 60,s, garage punk tunes everyone is welcome to checkout my playlists its all a work in progress about 1150 rare top garage punk psych rarities.im picking the best uploads i can find from vinyl when possible.ive posted many of this mans fine collection & many other top collectors of the finest & rarest grooves.ive also covered the 60s f& early 70,s funk 60s, & early 70s, jazzfunk,blues,50,s 60,s & early 70,s soul & rare live performances.have a nice evening matula.
I vaguely remember that most, if not all , band members were from New Westminster -- just outside of Vancouver. This record was quite a hit at the time in my junior high school in the area. Thanks for posting , brings back memories !
bill hays vocals sound very similar to bobby lieblings, i always hear it when i listen to this track. especially right now since i just finished listening to First Daze Here.
@eektherigo Haha thank you! Can't recall I've heard "Audience reflections". I will have to check it out. The flip for this 45 is "I told those little white lies" which is a great tune as well, I think.
Each to their own, but their 80’s reverbed organ ruins the song right from the start and the vocals are pretty bad. They do better covers than Frustration on their record, I give ’em that.
damn this band is so weird!!! I love this tune but i think im the only person that actually thinks "audience reflections" was the better/weirder song!! is it the flip of this 45? oh and, GREAT FUCKEN UPLOADS!!! keep em coming brother!!
id luv 2 have this on 45,the garage greats 45s r digitally half mastered with multiple overdubs,so when the label tells me its a repro n its not i give it 2 em,they havnt even paid 4 the rights 2 the music so buy if you want but i wont buy nothing from labels that lie,45s r the best vinyl format u can get equed louder n played faster.it gives u the best vinyl exspeariance.but 2 digitalise it means in truth its pointless n totally inferior 2 the original 45..

Damned unusual. Crisp drum intro and rather beautiful vocal. A gem in its own league.
Rock was DEFINITELY at it's peak around 1966, and that isn't just my opinion; it's hard science.
:D
... either way, Earth is still flat.
scrolled down to write this exact comment. cool to see you beat me to it by 3 years!
music popularity runs in cycles 64-66 are the best
but 67-69 is really amazing also.

It's an anguished song. The vocal sounds so cool and controlled, that's what most people try to be when they're having a bad time.
thanks for the support everyone on behalf of the many musicians who crewed the Painted Ship
Thanks for the music! Cheers from Sweden
+Glendoras // DJ Mean Mojo Mathias back on ya from Vancouver.
This is a hell of a song. I can't stop listening!
Hey William would you happen to have any merch to sell? Id love to get something from the captain himself
it would be ridiculous to ask how you sang this in such an idiosyncratic way. esp " May-be" Its like no other.
The BEST of back from the grave.
Finding gems like this make it all worth .. life, death .. love .. the ocean .. everything
much appreciated, Asmund

Great tune. The P Ship has another song called "And she said yes" that will put hair on your chest. You gotta hear it to believe it.
ha! ..... thanks, Omega
Listening to this 8/20/20 Love it when I find a gem. thankyou❤️
From Vancouver, Canada, this band issued a killer 60's punk two sider ''Frustration / Little White Lies'' in 1966 on London rec.
I met Bill Hay in 1983 at a Road Runners gig (Vancouver, BC) and he had a lot of great stories to tell about his days in the Painted Ship.
Fantastic beat the best

Jeff polara My son has two 70 chargers, a 500 and a RT. I got the 67 back in 1971 when I returned from overseas, I paid 600 bucks for it.

The Talking Heads a decade before their time
thanks !
I dig it. Thanks for the upload. I wonder if they came up with the name of the band from The Doors' song The Crystal Ship.
Or The White Ship by H. P. Lovecraft...
The band name is from "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Coleridge
@eektherigo Haha thank you! Can't recall I've heard "Audience reflections". I will have to check it out. The flip for this 45 is "I told those little white lies" which is a great tune as well, I think.
pretty heavy vibe going on....kind of sounds like it would have been easily accepted in a late 70's/early 80's punk club
@Brazlaff LOL yeah, I thought I'd put up some of my garage singles too, not only the blues and r'n'b stuff.
great! ty!
David Byrne HAD to have been influenced by this group. I hear him pulling from this in "Tiny Apocalypse".
Super !!!
rockn roll glory
thanks, Matthew.
Plan 9's cover blows this version away.
🤣🤣
