I saw this as a child. The Kordas were considered the rivals of Disney. Sabu was a little boy when he was recruited for the lead in "Elephant Boy" which we saw on our brand new tv set in 1950. Black and white. He was in the first Jungle Book. He was an actual mahout in training and he was a very fast learner of English. This movie is sooo much better than Disney's Aladdin and when you think of the special effects in 1940 it is quite amazing.
Disney Studios' "Aladdin" was made in a time of political correctness & it was as stretched, bent, strained, to the point of unwatchabiliness, like Mulder's cheeks when he was alien-tortured (season 7 ?).
Disney, capitalism hijack other exotic and wonderful myth from other culture without paying copyright of course. Today their porpose to destroy and cancel those exotic culture for western sick wokeness agenda.
It`s hard to believe that such fantastic and magnificient movie was produced during World War II. I`m sure the Thief of Bagdad might solace moviegoers whose hearts were devastated by war.
I haven’t seen Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ in several decades, but even so - I’m surprised at how much from ‘The Thief of Baghdad’ was used in it. …The Emperor/Kings’ appearance, a sidekick/thief named Aboo/Apoo(?), etc. I enjoyed this a lot, Thank-You for uploading it!
Remember the good old days when kids were kids and watching this beautiful movies we couldn’t wait for another movie like Ali baba and 40 thief’s and so many other movies thanks for sharing we loved 🥰 watching again.

This is a movie from my childhood! I absolutely LOVE THIS MOVIE I never ever get tired of it! 💕🥳 My dad, who passed away when I was 12, brought this movie home one day when I was maybe like 8? Some outstanding films were made in 40's . No C.G.I. , just cool props and trick photography .❤😊 I've said on other comments , movies such as this could be made with modern tech. They may look good but would lack charm .😊😊

I recall enjoying this when it was first released. This is stated as 1940, but maybe it took until 1942 to be seen in a neighborhood theater in Vancouver, when I was 6 years old.

Alexander Korda and his brother Zoltan Transferred operations/were based in hollywood pretty much by then ...his wife was Merle Oberon the hollywood star.
This was a terrific fantasy adventure movie, pure fiction, a marvelous fairytale, NOT a documentary ! It claimed not the slightest historic accuracy or authenticity. In fact it has no more authenticity than a Harry-Potter-movie for instance, as said it never claimed to have any. Even as an eight year old boy, when I first marveled at this wonderful movie fairytale, it would never have crossed my mind, that I had just seen an accurat description of life and culture of ancient Persia or Arabia in the 8th.century. Just a colorful fantasy world !

I used to love this movie as a kid. But watching it now, I cannot believe how much they confused Indian culture with Arab and Persian culture.
