Anyone remember the WoO used to broadcast on TNN Sports Cavalcade in the 80s and 90s. It was very condensed into 2 hours maximum, tape delayed and edited. They'd show just the heat races. B-main and A-main. That didnt last as TV broadcasting is an audience capturing game. Its not a heavy draw vs NASCAR, NHRA nor Formula 1. Streaming whatever track they broadcast gives the viewer a choice to see the entire show, track prep cautions, etc. Its a better feel for the viewer as if they were actually there

We are at a tipping point in dirt where we want/need more money coming in. However the more corporate/commercial interest the less grass roots it will be. Drivers will always be worried about pleasing a sponsor or w.e and it will take away from the raw/realness of our beloved sport. Cheers another great show!

What are people talking about. Delusional with out logic, fact or historical knowledge. No wonder the industry is in the state that it is. First of all, the cost of the sport which has grown 10x the pace of natural inflation has already made the economics of sport unobtainable. The top tier of the sport is already fully dependent on sponsorship revenue and wealthy ownership. If you think the the majority of those guys are traveling solely because they are the most organic talent in the nation your duly confused and sharing a delusion no different then nascar fans. The sport once had broad spectrum exposure across multiple traditional media platforms including television and was not only cheaper, it had more fans in the stands and sponsor interest. This sport has a major…major problem procuring sponsor interest for both regional and national teams. Small mom and pop Sponsors aren’t interested in advertising with local teams which is required for sustainability and new talent introduction. They aren’t interested due to the lack of metrics on advertising to evaluate their ROI, drastic fall off in fan attendance and a lack of basic awareness of the sport. The question isn’t about ruing the sport, it’s about the viability and benefits of adding the cable market. The irrational assumptions only demonstrate that the backwards views demographic of this sport is the very source of erosion which is killιng the sport. The self sabotage that constantly resists and retards any change, growth, expansion and sustainability. It’s like a 500lb person refusing to stop eating when they become bed ridden. That’s our sport, Bed ridden. We once sold more tickets to events then all forms of sports combined. Now we can’t fill a single section of the stands on a beautiful Saturday in july. You clearly don’t understand the sponsorship world or how difficult it is today to secure a sponsor today. Any…..Any exposure is good for the sport on multiple levels. This includes gaining a desperately needed sponsor interest! Tracks alone struggle to gain marketing partnerships today. You all think a few races on television will instantly saturate the sport with large financial influence? Lol it won’t, but that would be a good thing. Your confusing cup with dirt. Cup grew on the television market during a different time. That can’t be replicated today. They actually struggle to find sponsorship. They’ve been very public about this. Their entire model has changed to accommodate this evolution.
If they started broadcasting on tv and 50 major companies instantly and magically wanted to invest in the industry that would be dope not bad. But that’s a foolish prediction that doesn’t align with fact or modern reality. These companies have abandoned traditional marketing for digital. The larger sponsors you do see in the industry is typically a result of nepotism, personal interest and bureaucracy more then it is our market or a target demographic. There’s little interest by these companies to market to dirt track fans. They don’t need to. They already have enough data on you to influence your buying decisions digitally.
You all seem to forget that speed was how we watched outlaw races back on the day. The world didn’t crumble and more did it impact the cost. That was artificially inflated by multiple factors including greed from manufacturers.

Live TV is different in America, as is the level of interest in dirt racing. Dirt track racing in America is a VERY niche sporting event. Most tracks hold under 10,000 people....for very good reasons....and several well-established tracks close every year. It's not a booming business model. The downtime at dirt races is ridiculous. This last weekend's WoO event in Kansas and the complete shit show the weekend before (2.5-hour lighting delay) are perfect examples of why no network will carry these things live.

I really think that 10 week Slick 50 winter series from Manzanita Speedway and Canyon Raceway back in the early ‘90s that was aired live on TNN was really good and done well. They ran complete midget show early and then ran the winged sprint portion (outside of qualifying) live on TNN. It took a week or two to get the lighting set right for the track initially, but I think for its time, it was pretty successful. I believe you can search and watch some of those on TH-cam.

It goes as I have heard most people don't get to the track to watch time trials. They get there to watch heats, dash, and mains.
You can do that in 2 hours, if you don't have much of a (1) sub-division and a track redo. Run heats, Dash, B-main, A-main. Heats are timed as well as laps. Same with B-main Timed and laps. If the A-main gets over by 9:30 you could show time trials.
So the time would be 8:00 track time to 10:00 track time.

What logic substantiates that metric besides common, yet misguided, fact less, irrational and biased open? I remember when people claimed that about super cross (which the did). Any mass public exposure, demographic expansion and new market engagement equates to fan acquisition. The current and transitional don’t require altering to accommodate traditional forms of media and the negatives introduced to other forms of Motorsports aren’t likely to happen as the financial motivations and influences are no longer in play. The question isn’t whether TV will somehow magically erode the quality of the sport. The question is it viable to approach the television market with the current state of the sport and required financial investment. Will the net gains in modern society be worth said investment. The sport generally tends to resist any form of change and demographic expansion. They certainly fail to recognize the necessity of adequate marketing and basic promotional strategies. All the while crying about attendance, track closures, lack of purse money, lack of sponsor interest and lack of media coverage concerning results. The question and debate isn’t about ruining the industry. It’s about viability. But go on guys, break down exactly how it would “ruin” the sport. Use logical reasoning and facts. I’m curious.

Absolutely NO TV! It took dirt racing decades to get the attention it has now. Keep it pure, keep the personal connection it feels like we have now with streaming, and the production crews who actually know something about the sport. TV is junk nowadays. It will ruin dirt racing. Wait until NBC replaces Jr. with the British guy from a few years back. It will be a huge mistake by NASCAR. Flo exiting the small/local races is a current example. Smaller streaming services have been created but I see most of those falling away over time due to failure of the company or perhaps profitability that leads to investors selling at great profit to a large entity.

The number one issue with short tracks is lighting, second is visibility. Not just dust and shade but the placement of camera towers needs to be designed into the tracks.
All this and pit coverage before, during and after a event has always been a challenge that the broadcast people can't finance. This has to be track AND series investment and outside of Eldora and Lucas oil speedway few have the resources for this.
Tape delay for weeknight broadcast is most feasible way in as Friday/ Saturday 4 hour time slot would be prohibitively expensive. Not to mention rainouts/ delays! 8:28
A series based show could film biography and technology pieces for filler and background to make a professional, interesting show
Capable production is out there, but not the big dollars for the years it will take to put it on a national concept. Be happy with what we have and promote it as much as you (racer and fan ) can.

There is no money left in regular television. The NFL is selling games to streaming services and MLB and NBA only have a few games weekly. Streaming is the closest to ideal for broadcasting dirt racing. You get to see most of the racing in real time. (except when it goes down) It may seem expensive, but the streaming services need to make a profit for the work that they do and think what it would cost you to go to the track and enjoy everything live, it would be even more expensive in most instances.

Tv is dead endless ads and endless repeats have killed it for me. I cancelled my cable.I also haven’t watched crash car since around 2000 it’s all about money.

After watching NASCAR turn itself into SHAMCAR I would have no interest in watching any dirt racing on broadcast TV. The way they changed the way they covered their racing helped destroy it. I'd rather watch the kids race karts at Millbridge on DIRTVision than watch any SHAMCAR event. If High Limit goes to Fox it will destroy itself too.

Dirt racing is too rough neck for network tv.. too much fighting and cussing etc... but I do believe if they would show the big shows (chili bowl, late model dream, wrld 100, kings royal) on TV tht would help the sport reach new audiences and even reach new sponsorships

Dirt racing is too visceral 8:43 for television. A person can only see or hear what cameras and microphones pick up. You can't feel anything. To me that feeling is like a drug. Just knowing who wins is just not as satisfying in my opinion.
