  • My slide is dirty. I bet yours is, too. Let's do it!
    1. Blue Dawn (just a little!) in a sink with lukewarm water. Slush pump the slide to get nasties out of the crook down near the water key.
    2. Clean out the sink and pump again until all water runs clear.
    3. Set aside outer slide somewhere safe. Wipe down the inner slide with Sprayway Glass Cleaner a.co/d/2EgmHz3 and a microfiber cloth.
    4. Using a cleaning rod and a Slide-O-Mix sheath, dry out the inside of the outer slide.
    5. Apply a small amount of lubricant (solid cream or liquid) to the stockings and pump several times.
    6. IMPORTANT - wipe the inner slide clean again. You want the lube on the inside of the outer slide.
    7. Spray with water. Those little droplets are the ball bearings that make the slide move smoothly.
    Tips:
Brush your teeth before playing. If you can't brush, rinse with water.
Use less lubricant than you need. You can always add more, but you can also waste more if you aren't careful!
Take your time. If you aren't comfortable doing this, spend the money to have a pro do it for you. Establish a relationship with a tech who can clean and maintain your horn annually. My personal experience involves the following active techs that I recommend, depending on where you live:
James Baker (Birmingham, AL - custombrass‪@gmail.com‬)
Eric Edwards (Dallas/Fort Worth, TX - Professional Instrument Repair on Facebook)
Robert Herring at Independent Music Service (Little Rock, AR - independentmusicservice.com)
Corey Divine at Palen Music Center (Springdale, AR)
