  • **This offline controller does not need a Break Out Board. Drivers are wired directly to this controller. I save files as a "G-Code Arcs(mm)(*.tap)" file in the post processor.**
    Now that I have the CNC built and have used the unit a bit this is a video of the RATTM MOTOR Offline Controller / DDCSV3.1 Menus and Parameters List. I forgot to mention in the video that this controller replaces the breakout board and the need for the UC100 in most instances that I have seen. With no need to connect directly to a PC it removes the need for some adapters.
    The software that I use is V-Carve Pro. I save files as a "G-Code Arcs(mm)(*.tap)" in the post processor when saving files to USB drives. From there the USB drive can be inserted into controller to run file.

      Wow! I hope you enjoy the unit. If you have projects that you will run multiple time off the same file I think you will love it. I also think this unit makes wiring a CNC much easier also. Thank you for you feedback.

    I'm having issues setting up my same controller's Parameter screen so when the Main screen says X axis has moved from 0.000 to 1.000 my mill moves 1 inch. I've moved my Pulses per unit from the default of 640 to 10,000 or more and yes I get some more travel but nothing like what I need. It takes my ball screw seven revolutions to move the table one inch and the timing belt is probably a 2:1 ratio so the stepper has to turn like 14 complete revolutions to move the table one inch. I have changed the parameters from MM to Inches and I've messed with the driver's dip switches to add/subtract its number of pulses. Not coming close to what I need. Can you help me?

    Great review. Thanks. I'm thinking about buying this unit for my CNC. Also one more question. During the video you are saying that the USB is not good for long programs. How long? I mean 2-3 hours ?

    • @SuperJfritz
      @SuperJfritz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great question. I have not had any issues with the unit and flash drive compatibility. I have heard from some, that they have heard , some Offline Motion Controllers have issues with long runs. They made sure to mention that it could be the fault of a cheap flash drive. I have not heard of this issue occurring first hand. So to be honest I included that information because I have only done 2 hour runs at most thus far. I plan on working my way up to longer runs learning my machine.

      So u dont have any issues with it? Also i saw its pretty smal unit, u dont have any problems with the screen size? Its not top small? I'm doing a cabinet doors mostly from MDF and sometimes im runing like 3,5h strait.

    • @SuperJfritz
      @SuperJfritz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not had any issues with this unit that were not user error. I love the size of the unit and it is one of the reasons why I picked this controller. Since it is small overall (to me anyway) I was able to make a mobile hand-held enclosure. The screen size is really not a concern since the screen can always be moved closer. I do all my designing on a desktop and really only use the Offline Controller to run files from USB drives and CNC machine settings. I wish it had just few more button so there were less multi-function keys, but this would only add to the size. I feel the latest version helps with this by changing the color layout on the latest version.

    For someone building a first CNC would you recommend this approach vs Mach4 or other pc based system? This seems cost effective and nice not to have to tie up a computer.

    • @SuperJfritz
      @SuperJfritz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say that it would depend on what you are using your machine for. I plan to run the same file repeatedly without needing to make changes. If you are going to design a file for a single project and not repeat that job very often then it maybe easier to have a PC hooked up to allow for adjustments. My other main reason for going with the offline controller is since my PC/Laptop is not in the shop I do not have to worry about the dust getting into them.

    Im a trade machinist looking at my first cnc router build, if im understanding this correctly i connect my drivers directly to the controller, load my file and im making chips? I have bob cad v23 as programming software. Also the power supply im looking at for my drivers is 48v, will this work?

    • @SuperJfritz
      @SuperJfritz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for asking, it is always good to clarify. When I say you can load a file and go. I was assuming that someone already has a machine that has motors, drivers, and a way to cut chips. At this point most will need to decide if they are going to run their CNC with a Laptop/PC or Offline Controller. Connecting a CNC to a PC/Laptop in most case requires additional components like a BOB (Break Out Board) or UC100. I do not know much about those components due to my offline controller not requiring them to connect to the drivers. This Offline Controller does wire directly to the drivers, but there are other components needed to have a running CNC. I do plan on having a video that shows more about the routing of my enclosure wiring. Then a little bit later a detailed video for those that are going to us the same unit. This unit needs a 18v-32v power supply. I chose a 24v to run mine. I also us this power supply to activate the SSR (Solid State Relay) that allows my VFD to turn ON/OF with the CNC with one switch. I hope this helps.

      I believe there is. I have not done it myself, for questions like this one I go to the facebook group "DDCSV 1.1-2.1-3.1 PLC CNC CONTROLLER". This group contains members that really know the controller any may have even designed the controllers. I am sure someone would have more information if you use that platform.
