Guitar players are getting better, I believe. I mean, my mate Dave is considered a virtuoso around these parts: he can do Smoke on the Water AND Stairway to Heaven. Back in my day it was one or the other.
There are few things in my life that I've been part of or have learned the dynamics of how something was formed, built, or works I classify as having the "wow" factor. I was there during the birth of my children and that was a definite wow. I have seen buildings and carved statues that was a wow. When I learned and saw what it takes to get a rocket, a shuttle, and humans in space I was like, "wow!" Over the past couple of weeks I watched a short with Marcin on AGT. As a fellow bass and guitar player myself I was just like the folks in that crowd on the show. I was blown away. So I had to see if this was real. Going though countless videos, shorts, and reactions from content creators, I come to realize he is the real deal. He at the young age of 22 is already a legend in my opinion and a WOW!
He was a classical guitar prodigy playing some of the most difficult pieces at age 10, thus his massive technique. Felt constrained by traditional classical music and switched to steel string, adding the percussive techniques he uses so well. A true genius.
I saw Marcin’s insane level ingenuity from the very beginning when I saw him first time. Not mentioning here the level of class he executes his skills. He is simply a genius .
You sir have my respect for reading his bio before reacting. The grand majority of reactors never do that, and in case of Marcin it is very helpful to understand his insane level of skill. Many reactors are confuzed what is he even doing, and many think he is using some tricks or something, not being able to wrap their heads around how insainly skilled he is to be able to do this all for real.
Oh, yes! He is non-comparable to anyone E V E R ! He just redefined the guitar. Note, there is not him and the guitar - this is a unity, this is one piece!
You know that Marcin has a classical education. You know that. Marcin once said that he is bored with classical performances because it is boring to play the same thing over and over again, so he remakes everything classical in his own way because he enjoys playing it all differently.
You are so right in that, guitar players are definitely getting better. One huge reason is channels like yours. Youngsters (I am 65 so others become youngsters by default) see this, hear this and start to copy it. This guy, however, is from other LEVELS (not level). Ever so seldom, you see an unbelievable talented person, performing like this. I saw Tommy Emmanuel a few times, saw Jan Akkerman, Paco di Lucia (and some others) and some others on that level. This guy raises the bar higher and higher. Unbelievable!!!!
Check out his interview with Rob Scallon! He breaks down how much he tries to do with every movement, filling in all the gaps as economically as possible
The algorithm has been at work as I’ve just found this guy and listened for a few hours while writing. Very inspiring I found. My brain started sparking up and words flowed as they haven’t done for a while. Wonderful. Now watching him is entertaining and adds to my appreciation. I really enjoyed your reaction. Your bed hair is quite alluring, even to an old lady lol
Marcin was late to the guitar at age ten,at age sixteen he was able to give a recital of Paganini's Caprice no:24 in front of his class(video of that is on youtube). He then was invited by a professor of music to learn Flamenco via Zoom.He is proficient in composition, harmony and production,a perfect musical storm........................
Wonderful man and wonderful song. Incredible musical talent. Marcin has all the best - eloquence, great cullture and Incredible musical talent. Marcin-guitar phenomenon. He is in my heart forever. Thank you for your comment. Greetings from Poland 👏🌞
The guitar you call the telecaster nylon is a signature model by Tim Henson and Ibanez, it's called the TOD10N and was featured in the playing god video :) It's a brilliant guitar, I bought it and it plays wonderfully!
You're very methodical on how you explain things and you can just listen to something on the guitar and your like, "um well I think it's like this" and it's damn well spot on. It sucks that you're that good:) That's a HUGE compliment. You're one of my favorite guitarist!
This dude has crazy talent! I find it interesting how a few people in the comments think it's boring or bad... Maybe they're jealous that they don't have one tenth of his talent, or their taste in music is the opposite of eclectic? 🤷♀️ Haven't heard of Marcin until now. Checked out his other stuff on YT and realised he was on America's Got Talent. I really like his rendition of SOAD's "Toxicity". Acoustic guitars are harder on the hands than electric. I used to own a cheap electric, but hardly played it as I preferred the acoustic sound.
I'd never call it bad, but I do find it a little boring. He's obviously very talented and come up with a set of very cool tricks. I don't think he's found anything interesting to do with those tricks though. After "wow, that's cool" he doesn't really prompt any other reaction. Massive respect for the man and his skills, but after sitting through three minutes of playing guitars unconventionally, I'm not planning on watching more of his performances. Though if you're enjoying it, then awesome. He's clearly having fun performing it and if you're enjoying watching it, what more could anyone ask for. Not my thing though.
Fair enough. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we all have different interests. It's not just his "tricks" that I think are interesting, but his arrangement of the songs he covers. He puts his own spin on it, which I think sounds aesthetically pleasing. Also, one person being able to create that amount of sound with precision in their live performance is impressive to me. Makes me curious about what he could do with composing 100% original material. Anyway, there's stuff I find boring that others might not e.g. some of my friends like to stay inside and play board games all day. I can only join them for an hour max before I get bored to death! I'd rather be outside enjoying the good weather on the beach or going for a bush walk.
Wow, he's amazing! I love your channel, I suffer from anxiety, and the laughter you give me really helps take my mind off that. Just wanted to say that, also, you're awesome live :)
Just saw Marcin 1st time yesterday and was AMAZED by Habenero, watched Takata and fugue today. This guy makes my fingers hurt just watching. Have always liked Jeff Beck and Steve Vei, but this is outrageous. Definitely Flaminco excellence.
Very cool! I appreciate anybody that can avoid that annoying acoustic string sound as they shift hand positions, but this guy goes well far above and beyond that clean sound we love, but it's truly practice perfect talent on display here.
I'm gonna say that the reason it feels like guitar players are getting better is that these kinds of virtuoso performances translate much better to a 5 minute TH-cam video than they do to a whole albums worth of songs (where you can't see what's going on) or a live performance (where again you're not going to pick up on the subtleties of what's going on very well). Also so many TH-cam tutorials and videos of others playing to inspire people to do crazier and crazier stuff.
That nylon string classical guitar is an Ibanez TOD10N Tim Henson signature model. I am just waiting for a collaboration between Marcin and Polyphia. That would be world domination level epic.
Percussive acoustic style of guitar had been picking up steam since the 2000's but Marcin represents the next level that has more flair and dramatic style then previous percussive players of the past.
Picking up steam since the early 1980s. Michael Hedges did this style better and with more feeling. Playing well in this style is only half the equation - composing intelligently is where it's at. Fingerstyle guitarists these days are super talented but seem obsessed with the showy moves and excessive tapping.
@@sea-ferring Yes I am familiar with Michael Hedges, but I am talking about when it became a style you saw on the Internet... I remember seeing videos from an artist called Justin King who did a funky percussive acoustic style, despite he was in an alternative rock band at the time. Then more and more artists broke out in the early and mid 2000's.
We seem to be in a third golden age of guitar virtuosos. The first age was in the 60s (Hendrix, Clapton, etc). The second age was the 80s (Yngwie, Vai, Satrioni, Mike Varney's stable of talent at Shrapnel Records, and others) and now this third golden age started in the teens with guys like Henson, Ichika Nito, Yvette Youhg, Abasi, Mateus and the like).
This amazing young man, pronounced Marchin btw, blew me away with his Kashmir on one guitar a few years ago. My other favourite guitarist is Ichiko Nito, a completely different style and absolutely beautiful. Imagine my joy at seeing them collaborate on Just the Two of us. You really should check them both out a little bit more. I'm not really too keen on much of the music you cover but I absolutely love watching you and your take on the world today. 👍💙🏴 #TheSoundofFreedom #Godschildrenarenotforsale

Marcin's English is also amazing and he once said in an interview that he just practiced playing the guitar methodically 5 hours a day, no more, but each and every day.
Guitar players are becoming increasingly awesome…this dude Marcin then there’s Mike Dawes, Tommy Emmanuel….all creating amazing sounds on guitar waaaaayyyy beyond what the old virtuosos like Segovia or John Williams were producing! It’s fascinating and exciting rather than an exercise in precision and fidelity with the writer’s mind.

These artists are like the Malmsteen shredders of present day.. Playing like no one, while saying absolutely nothing as song writers. Thing is, I applaud that. IMO there's room for it all and it’s extremely important to keep the spirit of technical instrumental mastery alive. It most definitely has its place, and at the dawn of AI I'm just sincerely appreciative and respectful that some are still taking the time to learn and master physical instruments at a higher technical level than ever before.. There's just no denying it's bonkers talented.
3:06 Marcin | ARTISTS | Ibanez guitars For Marcin's innovative percussive fingerstyle he prefers Ibanez's flagship AE900-NT from the AE-Series which allows him to combine extensive percussive elements with the standard way of playing the guitar.

It most definitely has its place, and at the dawn of AI I'm just sincerely appreciative and respectful that some are still taking the time to learn and master physical instruments at a higher technical level than ever before.. There's just no denying it's bonkers talented.

For Marcin's innovative percussive fingerstyle he prefers Ibanez's flagship AE900-NT from the AE-Series which allows him to combine extensive percussive elements with the standard way of playing the guitar.
