Lucia! With luck, I will be able to watch your video with the new subtitles, soon. I must admit that I only listened to it over the car speakers as I was commuting to work! I did take a couple of years of French in high school, but sung French is different in a lot of ways! Not only that, it has been around 30 years since I graduated from high school! Lol! Have you ever heard the phrase, "Use it or lose it?" I picked up a word here and there, but definitely not 100%
Hi Susan!🌻 I never learned French at school or academy, but my mother did very briefly. And she said similar thing! I have similar experience too haha. I got first class license of old Chinese letters(Foreigner don't need to learn this for studying Korean. I heard many people in USA learn ancient Latin for hobby, and like that, here some people choose to learn old Chinese letters that Chinese don't use now. Instead, only linguist, Catholic priest and that kind of people learn Latin here.) when I was fourteen. And I forgot almost of them lol
@Fan of the Opera I think it would be fascinating to learn ancient Chinese pictographs! I never studied Latin. Although, I have sung Latin Masses. I especially love Mozart's Coronation Mass! ...Nowadays, at least here, Mass is in the most popular language of the land. ...No, the only other Latin I know is from medical terminology. I had to learn quite a bit to become a CNA...
...The subject matter of Faust is very dark! Especially when you consider what Marguerite was driven to do eventually. But, I do think that God had mercy on her soul. ...The MUSIC that Gounod composed! And, my gosh, that decrescendo on the high C! He certainly spent a lot of time in a practice room! ...Lucia? I just listened to Caballe as Marguerite! Something about her power and the weight to her tone is miraculous as Marguerite! And, despite how much society puts pressure on women to measure up to impossible standards of beauty, she IS beautiful! She always was! I'm not wired to be attracted to women, but I can see why she probably could have had any man she wanted!
Did you hear Ms. Caballe studio recording or live recording? Personally, I perfer her live Faust recording more. Yes, I agree with you. She had beautiful voice and ancient goddess mood. I like Faust's ending too :) I don't know what USA is like, but society's view of unmarried single mother is still cold at here. And it's hard to get child support regulary from biological father.(Well, the maximum amount of alimony for divorce is only $24,000, so I think financially nothing different between unmarried single mother and divorced single mother. But people tend to more cold to unmarried single mother. I think these are part of the reasons why Korea has lowest birth rate in the world.) Anyway, I like how Goethe and Gounod looked at Marguerite warmly without insulting her.
@@fanoftheopera95I listened to her live, in performance! ...Hmmm. I think that when I was in high school, a teenager was shunned if she got pregnant. But, some years ago, I interviewed at a school teaching toddlers/little kids whose mothers were in class at the high school. ...I think the term is "Baby daddy" if a mother isn't married to the father of her child... The decision to wait until marriage isn't the easier one. It can also have unforseen consequences. One of my former boyfriends became obsessed with me, because I didn't give him what he wanted. But, that is all over now. He doesn't pose a threat any more. ...It is the harder road, but I have never regretted it. In all truth, both me and my husband could authentically wear the white on our wedding day. ...I think that men are pressured TO have sex before marriage in our society. If you don't conform to what the crowd does, you can also be shunned. But, my husband is strong enough to continue to be a nonconformist.
