Often times the actions of these HOA's are dictated by just 1 or 2 individuals that THINK they have more powers than they actually do. If the rest of their 'constituents' knew what they were up to with HOA resources they'd be in trouble.
8:53 "Compromising" by getting everything you want and giving OP nothing in return is not reasonable. If not for the first amendment, this statement would've either gotten that guy in trouble, or shown any member of law enforcement or the government who let him get away with it in a very bad light.
Their version of "compromise" is to scam you into surrendering, and that's when you tell you lawyer to show no mercy, refuse any settlement not let them weasle their way out.
Many, if not most, reddit stories get retold on MANY MANY channels. Some with slight variations. Some even get repeated on the same channel. Often wonder if someone is creating these stories with AI and posting them around. Kind of like back in the 1970s where a college sociology class had an assignment to get published in Dear Abby during that quarter. Get published and got an automatic "B". Get published as the headline story, get an "A+". No other course work required. Risk/reward.
On the HOA vs Building permit story that HOA hopefully checked to make sure the disgraced former board did not fudge the books. Also sadly since they seemingly had the tactics they tried to use on the OP of the story down pretty well it is likely they had successfully used them before. Also the city should have stepped in way sooner to curtail the HOA as there was no grounds for staying neutral in one party was clearly in the right and one in the wrong, this makes me suspect that HOA had someone in city hall who could gum things up until their superiors in city government had no choice but to step in.
“Mr. Mitchellll, we’re here to discuss a reasonable compromise,”. “A reasonable compromise would be the HOA disband before criminal charges are filed.”
Second story once approved HOA should NEVER have a say in a permit reducing property values is vague at best and wondering where that is enshrined in law
it is AI FAKE story, Think about it Local Planning office gets request for new building Project, they are going to pull out the maps and check the Zoning Lines....Request to stop the project comes in they are going to pull the same maps....Sorry HOA your zone stops down the road he is outside That department could have been sued for even delaying the project by claiming there was a valid reason to stop it when the official records they keep show it was out side the HOA zone....TOTAL FAKE story that would never have happened
most of the stories here are FAKE AI STORIES you can tell when some one destroys property and the cops say its a Civil issue.....Criminal Damage is NEVER a Civil issue it is Criminal Law First, then you can sue later for the Civil law compensation most times in the Criminal Trial
A lot of people that call others racist simply want the accused to bow to them. Often times the accused aren't racist at all, and the accuser is the one actually racist.
Has there ever been a case in which the overbearing HOA " Presidents " or " Board members" got a knuckle sandwich, or a total beat down? It seems to me that these types getting an attitude adjustment now and then just might make a lot of people's lives a little easier.
In the Hampton Heights story, Jim is the problem. He should have filed the cancellation of the HOA's request to suspend OP's change at the beginning, instead of suspending the permit.
MORE AI RUBBISH the Local Planning department would have shut down the HOA after checking the local Zoning Maps. as they would have on File where the Building Project was, and where the HOA Boundry Line was. Stop upvoting this rubbish
Regarding that last story, I live near Detroit, and in the early 2010s people around here and across the country began noticing a big uptick in black folks who would accuse others of being racist in order to try and get what they wanted or to just win arguments. Fortunately, the black community on a whole tends to monitor itself. Many black youtubers and influencers began calling these people out on their bad behavior, citing how it made the whole black community look bad. This managed to squash this overall attitude rather quickly. Unfortunately, you do tend to get some people now and then who think that acting this way gets them what they want. They don't actually believe you're racist, they just think if they behave like this they can scare you into giving them what they want.
There used to be a Guy on You Tube that Ran a channel about that, Every few months he was banned investigated and came back over and over, He told a story once about a Homeless guy who earning a few coins filling peoples gas tanks at a Gas station and a Local kid saw it and thought easy money and started to do the same. The Homeless guy asked him to leave nice and polite. short time later two cars pulled up as the kid had told mom that he had been beaten up by the homeless guy (not a mark on him) and about 10 people jumped the homeless guy and beat him with bats and other things. Guy was rushed to Hospital had to be put in an Induced coma for a month and the family cousins etc pleaded at Court that the guy had attacked their kid even when the stores Video was shown that the guy never got within 10 feet of the kid they still swore the guy had attacked the child..... That was just one of the nasty stories he posted
Anytime someone is being harassed like the HOA was doing you need to start documenting. That is the way to win.

Merry Christmas!
If you happen to be a business, no HOA can not try to impose any control on you. You're not a home.

Last story, she just wanted to use her money for other stuff. If she can get stuff for free she thinks why not!

OP's lawyer didn't suspend the permit, the city did because there was a dispute regarding the property the permit was for.
14:28: And the " what I learned" segment full of 80's saturday morning cartoon morals is how we all know that the story is fake.
