It’s no ones business what anyone’s sexual orientation is. You are quite right about being cautious of asking this question, the question itself could be upsetting or offensive to the person being asked.
The reason why people feel so comfortable asking is because the younger generation have made it normal to label yourself and “identify”, and make it public. To an extent, it is good because it has made it more safe to be yourself, but at the same time..people out ALL their identity on it and don’t understand when people just want to be lol and not share.

To add to what Vincent said about assumptions around sexuality;
Some people live in situations where if they were constantly asked that question it could be really dangerous (eg homophobic/abusive parents).
It’s not necessarily bad to ask the question but sometimes the consequences of being asked that question all the time are really severe.

Yup, 100%. I think younger generations label themselves way too much and feel the need to identify their identity out loud with the world, sometimes before they even have a clue who they are. It’s okay just just...keep yourself private and not let the whole world in on who you are attracted to or what you feel like, especially if you are constantly going through changes, which most humans always are. Society expects something that isn’t realistic for any human beings, which is to find one way of life and stay that way- whether is career, marriage/sex, kids or no kids, buying a house or not and renting/traveling. People shouldn’t hold themselves to boxes or ask and expect anybody else to.

It's definitely hard not to, we are curious creatures, after all, but we all need to try to think about how our desire to know might affect the person we're asking. I am bisexual but I live in the Southern United States in a rather Conservative area. Most people know my sexuality but I wait until I get to know them before I spill the beans. I am not embarrassed of it but I don't feel like getting hassled over it either. Thankfully it has gotten a lot easier but I have had family and friends turn their backs on me once they found out which is utterly ridiculous.
When I was in college this guy kept getting asked what he sexuality was by a group of girls and he was very embarrassed. I stood up and said are you planning on dating him? No...then why does it matter to you? Shut them up real quick. And he became friends with me after that. He was so young and grew up in a Fundamentalist Christian setting so even he had not admitted to himself yet that he was gay. It took a couple more years for him to come out but I was there to support him when he did. When he told me I was like I knew sweetie but it was important for you to figure that out on your own.

I don't think those people meant anything bad by asking but I think someone's sexuality is so irrelevant other than to the person themselves or a potential partner. If the person want's to and feels comfortable talking about it then that's great! And it could help others understand or feel less alone. However the pressure to come out or reveal it to just anyone who asks I don't think is fair and it isn't really any of their business. I'm so sorry you felt that pressure Vincent, it really should be up to you whether or not you want to talk about it or not. And if you want to talk more about it I'm supportive 100000% !
