  • Surveillance video shows an intruder stealing from a Vancouver restaurant employees’ locker room. The Lebanese eatery, Zaatar w Zeit, has dealt with other theft in the past, with intruders becoming violent when confronted.
Joanne Zarife says her staff were scared to come to work last year after a man was stabbed to death at the Starbucks next door.
She says, “We want people to feel safe when they enter here. It’s like…they’re destroying our home and they’re affecting the employees. It affects mental health. It affects everything.”
    Alissa Thibault reports.

The police form of investigation always start with: “you have insurance, right”? My son’s vehicle was broken into and the steering column badly damaged. There were cheap beer cans in and around the vehicle, which my son does not drink. Went to the four liquor stores around the LRT station and found the one that sells the beer. Called the Calgary Police officer involved with the investigation and provide the store location (all liquor stores have cameras) and his response was: “we cannot act upon that information”. I do not trust the police here, they drive around, see an infraction and do not do anything about it.

After explaining that we did not partake, he thanked us for our time and went about his business. It is a shame that things have changed so much. These crimes and people who do not respect others and property have gotten so bad that i am considering suing the city for the “over-tolerance “ given to all “premeditated crimes and vandalism….not to mention the randsacking and pollution (with all free things given to them) a vast majority of the homeless commit!

Met a police officer who wouldn’t help an old lady who needed a ride close by because her car broke down, in his words “we are not a taxi service” I ended up offering help.. so they don’t do that, they also don’t help with petty/small crimes.. what do they do exactly? .. and we clearly need a change of government

I am sure the police would agree that harsher punishments for Drug Dealers/Makers may help curb the flow in the availability of drugs. Police say, our hands are tied.
Problem is, Drug Dealers/Makers do not stay long in the prison system, if at all. Prison system has their own drug problems. Judge says, our hands are tied.
Drug Dealers/Makers murder addicts. There should be a law for mass murdering civilians, regardless the drug.
Their addicts become thieves in desperation. The addicts are strung out with public intoxication, endangering the community. But that is not an offense according to the law.
You go to the drunk tank if you are drunk in public. But drug addicts are an exception to the rule. They can blatantly be intoxicated all over the city.
Retail Stores do not catch thieves anymore, they let them walk out the door with merchandise. Retailer says, our hands are tied.
After all these years, and we are still not able to control this toxic environment.
Its irresponsible to the community for Politians to ignore it.
    Rinse and Repeat.

This is widespread across North America and is a municipal and provincial problem. Police need to be more visible on the streets and shopping areas. Talking tough on crime isn't the solution.

Seen police in Surrey drive right by crimes in progress and not even glance at hard core criminals walking in groups.
