Researched this for an assignment I'm doing for my Textiles class, and now I want to do this this summer with my mum! Maybe we can dye homemade paper and linens. :) I had a question to! How easily do these colours fade? Either by being washed or by the sun. And if there a way to help the colour stay if they do fade easily?

Should you prepare them separately as you showed us, and then just before adding the yarn ,combine the 2 dye solutions ( baths ) together in order to best obtain that special green I ‘d want to get ? Thanks a lot for that super demonstration ! I’m sure going to give this a try as I have a big Lilac ( purple ) tree at home .
1st question: Are you heating the yarn as it dyes, or is it just in whatever the temp is after the dyepot sits overnight / Is there a preferred temp? (my pots may not hold the temp as long as yours ...or the air temp might be different etc). 2nd question: About how many skeins / ounces could you get from each of those pots before you consider them exhausted. 3rd question: Do you ever save the "elixir" to reheat and use at a later date, or does it go bad?

It really depends on what I am working on. The wonderful thing about fleece is that they can carry so many different characteristics based on the breed and the conditions the sheep are exposed too. Combinations are nice as well because you can use a yarn with a higher micron count yet has a wonderful sheen, with a lower micron count to add softness.

Are they colorfast?
Are you able to store the made dyes into mason jars and seal the jars so that you can use the dyes when those plants are out of season?

Just out of curiosity, can you intensify colors by boiling the liquid after straining?
Geoffrey, for most flowers, boiling causes the dye bath to turn brown or a dull grey/ brown. Thanks for asking
