A Christmas carol that really sums up the feel of a typical British winter! Hope you like this take on Holst's setting - I based each variation on the feel of the verses in the sung version, including a "tenor solo" in verse 3.
I'd like to dedicate this video to my friend Gill, who loves carols. Happy Christmas. x

The more harpists I watch and listen to, the more I come back to Amy Turk. You are truly talented.
Listening to this, winter feels a little less bleak and a little more beautiful.
Wow, just wow. The tone control near the sound board is ON POINT. And what ever you do to get that perfect resonance and placement on those harmonics, it's just phenomenal.
It's this terrible and wonderful thing called practice! Plus I am just obsessed with harmonics. :)
@@amyturkharp you inspire me to keep playing and practicing music. Thank for posting.😊 🙏
Dan Fogelberg had done a beautiful rendition of this song, and it was my favorite for several years. You just topped that. Thank you for this.
You play your harp so beautifully; it's apart of your soul. You make it look so easy but I know you put in alot of work into it. Thank you. Happy holidays from South Carolina, USA.
This is my favourite Christmas carol! Thank you!!!
Super harmonics, super difficult, super magical! A real gift from you to all your listeners! Best!
Ages ago I took lessons on the lever harp, and when I learned to do that thing on the strings you do starting around 2:06, I remember feeling VERY impressed with myself, but I could never do it reliably enough to work it into a piece!
Anyway, it's too early for this song lol, but boy is it one of my favorites for Christmas. "What can I give him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would give a lamb. If I were a wise man, I would do my part. Yet what I can I give him, give him my heart."
Gorgeous Gorgeous Gorgeous !!!!!! Thank you for this !
Your performance of this classic erases all bleakness. Thank you, Amy, and I wish you a Merry Christmas.
I do a lot of Roleplaying on World of Warcraft and have been trying to find the right Harpist to link on her profile for how she plays and exactly what she does. I think I found the right, beautiful sound. Proud to say I'm now a Patron on your Patreon and I hope others will soon follow.
Beauty just Flows through You.
Amazing!!! why would anyone hit the dislike button is truly beyond me!!!
There probably aren't enough skateboards or explosions for them. Some people have no soul.
You got that right!!!
A new Amy Turk video! A new Amy Turk video!!!! Thank you for your beautiful settings and heartfelt performances. You're my harp idol, Amy. Wishing you all the best for 2018.
Your music always touches my soul but this one cuts me in two. I always feel your music and this just makes my soul cry out in joy and sorrow with peace as do some other covers you have done lol. Thanks Amy! You're amazing! I love to hear all music as you do. No Discrimination! Your music is always so overwhelmingly uplifting even in the lonely soft notes. Breathtaking! So amazing to hear the music I have waited for all my life that other popular artist will never comprehend or even care to try.
Magnificent touch and very heartfelt and personal interpretation ! Your music is so comforting. Thank you!
Beautiful music, beautiful video, beautiful Amy. Merry Christmas!
This is so beautiful. Thank you Amy for your music. I love it.
One of my favorite winter songs
This was really beautiful Amy! Such a fitting arrangement for harp!
I'd love to hear you do "O Holy Night"!
You play this beautifully Amy, thank you for sharing your music with us
Magical performance at an enchanting venue. Love your videos! ❤️
Brilliant, thanks a lot for sharing this beautiful performance with us! The touch is as gentle as an attack is so agressive, perfect balance.
Beautiful!
Amy, I confess that I have listened to other Harpists, but I always come back to you! You are my Zen place.
The harmonics! Nicely done!
A lovely rendition!
wow fantastic bass coming through this recording... what beautiful playing
Wonderfully done! This is my second favorite Christmas song…
I just got a kitten and she has trouble sleeping most nights, but one or two songs normally puts her right back to sleep! You’re extremely talented and I’m excited to hear more wonderful music from you 😊
Magnifique
I love to see you play your music is just beautiful.
Beautiful! Thank you!
Magnificent! Thank you.
Como sempre, muito bom!
Que linda igreja.😮😍
As I write this from my home in NE Ohio the actual temperature is 23 degrees, wind chill is 7 degrees, and there are 6"+ snow on the ground. For this night this is a fitting piece of music.❤
Hi Amy, wow, your playing gave me chills and made my eyes water!! you're an amazing harpist!!
Beautiful ❤
Merry Christmas Amy and thank you for your wonderful music.
Merry Christmas Karl and all the best for the new year!
Amy Turk happy year too you too. If I could wish anything for 2018 then a Duett of you and Marion le Solliec :))
Love your work :)
Wonderful
Wow I wish listen you in Italy! Absolutely talent!
Thank you
Exquisite playing.
I forgot where I was for a moment there.
Amy.. I’m obsessed with you ❤️😍 Merry Christmas my lovely!! Xx
Alexander Thomas Merry Christmas
beautifully done~ ♥
Home. I'm there. Thank you again.
Bellissimo , tanti saluti dall’Italia ❤️
Beautiful. The bass sounds so good on my headphones and I love how you mute the overtones. The harmonics are heavenly. :-)
tubbers20 - I’ve been being devastated by this piece on a regular basis....listening to this through headphones. The Harp is humming in this deep warm voice along with the beautiful arrangement....and the delicate grace notes high in the treble, like teardrops....So simple, so perfect.
It's beautiful. I think Amy was sent down by the angels to play for us. :-)
Bravo!!!
:O I could stay for hours listening (and watching) to you play... you're wonderful. Marry Xmas, I wish you the best. G.
I really don’t want to harp on about this, but you are truly incredible!
Amy! thanks.
Graceful moment ;)
Yeah well, greetings from not so bleak Guatemala. Great choice of music btw :)
You thaw my icy heart ❤️
Hay people, she needs more supporters on Patreon. If we all join together we can make a difference. It all adds up.
Beautiful music, beautiful woman
I wish I've seen places like this in the United States.
Absoluitely exquisite. I love your playing. Nice to see you solved the audio issue with the pedals too. :)
This piece has two pedal changes per verse... not the same issue!
I absoluty adore your music! You are so incredibly talented! Well I would suggest you making cover of Florence and the Machine, for example Cosmic Love or maybe a cover of one of the songs from The Witcher Wild Hunt. I would love to see a cover of Wolven Storm in your arrangement! Look in up and keep continuing your amazing work
Thank you very much, Ms Turk! You give us beauty.
Are you planning on any concerts in Germany?
I am not able to travel to perform at this moment in time, but you can support me on Patreon if you'd like that to change!
Parabéns, muito bonita! Eu toco Cavaquinho, estou indo para Irlanda estudar Inglês!
Beautiful. You would sound great with anything from Grieg's Lyric Pieces
I used to play those on the piano when I was younger! I just love Grieg.
Holst...an interesting personage, no? Love some of the wind suites...and of course...Planets. This is nice too. Great venue thx
Love the music. Camera angle changes too often.
Yup... there is always one in every group. 🙄
I dont know why i came here thinking this would be a Peaky Blinders cover... Not disappointed though!
Calling it now, this has 1mil views by next month.
If you sold sheet music for this I would totally buy it ;)
Publishing it in early November!
I know it sounds like a dumb question LOL but I kept wondering how your fingers could be so flexible in what had to be a chilly temperature.
I was wearing warm clothes and thinking about the roast dinner I was going to have afterwards!
Gustav holst Júpiter theme please 👏😊
YES YES YES YES YES. yes. yes. y. Y. YES. YES.yES. Sey
No Amy, don’t do “The Planets”.
It’s not necessary to waste your precision fingers on some of the pieces with more than 5-part harmonies, just to say you did it. Pick your favorites, leave requests at the back of your list.
Many mistake my interests. I want Amy to continue to make that joyful noise, because she herself is joyful in the doing of it. No one is joyful in the use of their skill, when in the service of others. Some would argue, but that point is inarguable.
Amy’s life in her home country of Britain, is possible to fall into decline, as the country descends into greater tyranny. I hope she remains safe and free, to continue to make her joyful noises...
Is she not serving us who listen? Perhaps even in the slightest way?
For the record - I play what I want 😎
@@amyturkharp
Perfectly stated, Amy. ☺🌹
Please do more from The Legend of Zelda!
💓👍😉
Beautiful, are you catholic?
So beautiful wooow🌹💋💋💋🐨😗
Why are some strings red?
The strings are colour coded so you can see where each octave is. All the red strings are Cs.
Amy, the red strings may be Cs, but using the grading system used in most American schools, your playing would earn you an A+. comment posted 06/18/2018
Lovely. But you knew that. It’s seemed a tad slow in tempo but it worked. Great setting. Very personal. Hey, it’s ok to smile in to the camera.
Thanks for listening! I smile when I feel like it, and this music is serious, so I didn't, and I think that's fine.
Now do Mars xD
Now try Jacob Collier's arrangement of this piece. :o)
First!
(notice me, senpai)
Jesus H. Christ consider yourself NOTICED, JESUS!
I thought that was written centuries before Holst, silly me
Actually the poem was only written in 1872, Holst did the first setting in 1906. So it's comparatively modern! I didn't think about it either until I worked on it.
F major.
Amy Turk is much better than Joanna Newsom, whose voice I cannot stand.
