Jim if you straighten the spring-loaded arm you can take a small alen wrench and stick it in the holes on the sides of the arm. (made for this) Then release the pressure and the arm stays straight. Then you can install the arm without fighting that spring! After you get it adjusted just pull out the alen. Did I just teach the teacher?
They were 1” diameter, 6” long springs. They stretch from the back of the grill to the uprights of the radiator core support. Look at the video of the springs connected
