  • How we designed and built our rain garden. What plants work well in a rain garden? Why a rain garden can be a better system than rain barrels! Rain gardens pair beauty and function in the garden!
Apologies for the video being a bit jumpy! I was making it quickly in the fading light with my phone!

I always get a lot of ideas from your videos, things I can try in my Seattle garden.

I got some of those ground cover strawberries spreading in a stretch of grass near my work. I just grabbed it last year and am not sure how it’s settled in.

Great demo. Thanks for showing this at its infancy point and explaining in such detail. You said that the rain garden stores water like a rain barrel, but you also said that you plant salvia and poppy and other dry soil lovers around the edge--this would imply that it's not giving much water to the edge plants that surround the wettest spot. Is this because you're taking the bulk of the water down to the swale and woodchip-filled mulch area as a diversion, or are you building up the soil to create a high area at the sides of the rain garden for containment? I'm just wondering which part of this demo-ed area ends up getting the most of the water (besides the center of the actual rain garden)?

Awesome! I’m sure you told us but I have to ask what is the pretty pink flower?
