In reference to your watermelon growth - In my experience, I've had volunteers grow well into and PAST the frost but they were no good, thereafter. The few times I have grown watermelon (purposefully), it would be a miracle if it matured fully. This was the first time I've used fresh (2 year old) horse manure in my garden and my green (pole) beans, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and Cucmbers went wild! cherry and grape tomatoes still kickin' off fruit! Your garden is quite bountiful! I've gotta go back and look at how you watered your garden. I created a dripline system for my maters, green beans, peppers but will have to do something for the gourds next year. Cheers!
@@Lucianato2 I just cut open a watermelon today and it was like candy, but yes, once frost hits I’m pretty sure a chemical reaction takes place and they go super bland fast. I mainly grow them because they produce a ton of cheap chicken food. Well composted manure is great, but yeah, never use fresh, the weed seeds will go nuts. For water, mainly soaker hoses and manually switching them, so a huge time sink. This winter i am installing drip irrigation throughout the entire garden.
@@venomsailor that is awesome! I did see the rain barrel set up and it's quite impressive but I only saw a tiny bit of it. I have 3 rain barrels around the house but my lot is tiny so I cannot use the rainwater for the watering sadly. The manure is never fresh. I don't want that stank in my yard. 🤪
