    You guys have awesome gear, well tested, no gimmicks, and you're making improvements over time when you can.
    Big thanks to you guys at Pathfinder school and to you Dave, learned so much from y'all.

    50 gallon trash liner saved my ass out at the Grand canyon last fall. It was real cold and my will blanket wasn't enough. I use the trash liner as a sleeping bag, and I will never be caught without one!

    Yup reinforced my arcturus 5x7 tarp too with 3" gorilla tape. I borrowed from work. I also cut some beer cans up and folded them in to the tarp corners, I put bank line all around the out side of the tarp when I folded the tape around.

    @bryanfaulkenburg462 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    After I saw your video about the duct tape reinforcement, I immediately did that to all my space blankets in my kits with 550 cord loops . It added a decent amount of weight to each blanket . I am glad you came up with a better solution. I will be ready to switch out when available.

    I like to pack an OD green one as a ground sheet. I also carry an orange one for emergency and signaling. Maybe you could offer a two color package deal?

    I love your gear, but I would really love to see a 6'x8' or a 7'x7' model! 5'x7' is just a little too small for some of us!!!

  • @garystephens498
    @garystephens498 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    definitely agree, we need an 8x8. the 5x7 is just not big enough, or at least a 6x8.

    Consider a more durable carry bag that can hold Blanket, cordage, and stakes and maybe substitute as a small haversack. At same price the new blankets will sell quickly.

    I'd be interested in OD Grean (or camo). Guess I'll have to wait to find out the size and cost/ I'd like an 8'x8'. No edge grommets or center strap eyelet on the non-reflective side?

  • @choltzapple
    @choltzapple ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you tried using one with sewn tie out loops instead of the grommets? It's worked for years on tarps, I'd like to see it tried on these space blankets also.

    Never would cave to by cheep, that is tough, reliable and quality worthy of buying once and done hopefully 8x8 or 7x8 , would take one of each as soon as available.

    Dave, Clay from Wyo. Again, Real Quick in Marine Corp , Army too
    I think , that poncho liner.. Why not get 2 of those, sandwich your Space blanket between sew up, cut hole for head , and have a pretty good warm poncho liner/ blanket.?
    Years ago '81, Had to use a Space blanket at 37 below in Red Desert
    of Wyo,.. yeah I survived. barely I was
    23, tougher than a dried up mustang hide then, don't care to repeat that. There was
    an Airborn Ranger , Ranger Rick Tscherne
    who was economicall challenged, and he did that with good sucess.

  • @jeffreydheere4737

    That's pretty strong. More of a tarp than a blanket really. Even so, not many tarps on the market would survive that torture test.

  • @danwarner9902
    @danwarner9902 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great stuff Dave, as always. Have you tried the military surplus casualty blankets? Not the space blankets; the casualty blankets have green on one side and silver on the other. I get them for under $20 and they're pretty handy. Haven't strengthened them yet, but I also don't have them for rough use.

    • @FellsApprentice
      @FellsApprentice ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a former medic that has been repeatedly issued those before, they're good blankets, but as Dave said, they're meant for One-and-done single emergency use. Repeated stress of the grommets will rip them out same as every other brand. If you are using them as intended they'll hold up well and they do well with repeated light use (ground pads and such that doesn't put stress on the grommets), but you can forget about them passing a test like this improved Pathfinder one just did.

  • @backyardsounds

    Dave, I've read that a thermal blanket can hide someone if another is using a thermal camera to find them. I just wonder if you had it under a ghillie suit, would it really work? Maybe you could test it!

    I wish the Pathfinder school company would make a earth colored brown blanket and a Camouflage one and a winter style snow camo one because I live in Berlin , New Hampshire and it snows 6 months out of the year it's always deep snow and mountain terrain so if yal made a snow camo survival blanket I could blend in alot better when I'm camping in the middle of nowhere and it's -20f degrees I like to blend in plus build my own shelter and use a survival blanket to help throw heat back at me just a thought

    Get rid of the freaking grommet! Worst travesty bestowed upon gear. Sewn in tabs are way stronger and avoid the big grommet hole defect. Toss an extra nickel at the person sewing on the binding and you'll really improve that tarp.

    imo - never trust a grommet ... nylon loops would be my first choice,
    plus should the worst happen, just sew another one on,
