Why keep a tank full of cold water? I pipe it to keep the tank full of boiler temp water and mix it on the way out. This gives you double the hot water storage, and eliminates the need for opening/closing valves or turning the water heater off and on between seasons when the boiler isn't running. No need to change anything in fall, just light the boiler and let the mixing valve do the rest.

I purchased a house with a Model 228 previously installed. If anyone has a manual or parts list to this model, it would be extremely helpful and appreciated. It seems to be working fine at the moment, but I'd rather have these at hand if something starts missing.
Must be me, because I could not understand what was going on and what was the point of the heat exchanger, does a coil in a hot water cylinder not do the same, and at the same time is the stove a solid fuel stove, if so you don't want to have any electrical pumps/valves for a solid fuel stove.

exactly, you can use the DHW tank as automatic backup of you use the HE to heat the water in the tank rather than a manual bypass.

if you do not request any heat, will the water that returns to the wood boiler not overheat and boil?
