      Snake plant. My big snake plans for 2years just died when my partner had been quarantine in our bedroom for covid. For sure, plants took and killed virus and eventually them passed. I replaced with more varieties of snake plants plus ficus, aloe, zz raven, an aglonema, spider and peperomia 😊

      For those struggling, how did you overcome your addiction?

    • @Chris-w3h
      @Chris-w3h หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jakstew8168 Find something that you want more than you want your drugs. Whether it be a version of yourself that you can love or the ability to be a great mother or father one day. You can’t just fight the addiction if you don’t have an actual reason to stop. If you feel like you’re at rock bottom and that’s where you belong you’ll never leave. Find something greater than you and pursue it. Find something you want for your life that you know you’ll never be able achieve as an addict. Don’t talk negative to yourself. Talk positively about moving forward and the strength it takes to be where you were but still overcome it. Chase a version of you with confidence one with a higher self image strive for success follow fun passions. If you don’t have passions then remind yourself that the addiction creates a void that eradicates the desire for passions. Drugs don’t fill the void they create it. The moment you break the chains and repair your dopamine receptors you’ll find more joy in everyday things which will lead to finding a new passion. You only get to experience life once you may as well aim for the moon and have fun before you’re gone forever. Fix your environment and the people you keep around you. Wear clothes that make you feel confident. Follow a religion if that’s your thing. Find a purpose. A purpose doesn’t need to be you becoming the next inventor billionaire. Something as simple as being a role model to your kids or friends can be something you can take pride in. Most importantly take it one day at a time with everything you do. Don’t focus on “ In 2 months I’ll feel great “ or “ I’m going to feel better after” take it one day at a time. Enjoy your journey. Focus on what you can do in the today rather then how you’ll feel tomorrow. Replace bad habits with good. If you get the urge to perform your habit, do some pushups. The stronger the urge the more pushups. Meditation never was my thing but I heard that works well too. Join a gym and if you can’t do that workout from home ( just as good and cost 0 dollars ). Get a new haircut. Find a new job. Do things that make you feel unstuck. Find ways to be more confident. Remind yourself that your goal is to be a better version of yourself and to not be ruled by some pill or needle. Be your own boss not a slave to some bad habit.

    I suppose a plus to snake plants are that if you have one you have a steady supply of new plants. I use them in my terrarium too. And if you don't wanna bother with the shoots dropping flowers everywhere, you just cut the shoots off. It's like Jade plants. Every time you give your jade plant a trim, you have 30+ new plants. I had to start throwing them away. But for years I experimented with just how I could manipulate them to get things. Like I starved some shoots of much light and they got so leggy I could plait 3 stems and THEN they got the light they needed. I know the one jade plant I have is at least 30 years old. Which was just a cut from the first one my mum bought for my childhood home. It doesn't look as good as my other jade plants cos I am not as aggressive with it. But I have 3 big jade plants in my south-facing bedroom window. Just away from the windows I have spider plants. I cut the shoots off. I don't want all the dropped flowers everywhere. lol Lastly, in my bedroom right by the window I generally keep open, I have a basil. SUPPOSEDLY the basil smell, mosquitoes aren't fond of.
    In my north-facing window, I have more spider plant (the "breedmare" lol), a big ponytail palm, a beautiful rubber fig with white and pink undertones. And just to the side of the side of my window in a hanging basket, I have a white specked pothos. I have a trumpet plant (meat eater) in my south-facing kitchen to catch the fruit flies (I get every time I buy bananas), some back-up pepper seedlings (I may try overwinter), another basil.. and nothing else.. but last year I grew indeterminate tomatoes with quite a bit of success. I had tomatoes outside then too as I do now. I'm in Scandinavia, the season is intense in daylight hours but not that long. And it gets dark in winter so I may have to squeeze plants into the south facing windows during the darkest months. That's just how it is. I also don't do peace lilies cos I like to keep my home cool in the winter. My DAD does amazing with peace lily and orchids. He is an old fart so he has to keep his place warmer than I. lol
    One of my favourite plants is ferns.. I can't grow them!!! I know what they need and I provide. They just hate me. I hope one day to have a bathroom with a nice big window and so I can make my dream bathroom covered in ferns. lol
    Ultimately, flashy looking plants that have very strict requirements (like soft water when you live in a hard water area). They won't look their best if you can't provide. They will look worse than a less flashy plant that you can easily provide for perfectly. That's really something to keep in mind. I remember being gifted a BEAUTIFUL jasmine... RIP. lol I was fooled by azaleas once too. Just nope, as a house plant for me. Even in the garden soil, this is limestone country... They look so pretty though. lol

      I like how you use the plants for their various benefits and create a harmonious symbiotic living space. I've been having a problem with fruit flies getting in, I'll definitely look into getting a trumpet plant. Thanks for the tips.

    When you stated the more plants the better for air purification, how large do the plants need to be ? Second which plants would be the best to start with. And of course the best ones when someone is on a budget.

    Basically a nice & accurate video, would be helpful to many. I grow most of these & have for 3+ decades. But please, NO IVY, as grown Indoors, they tend to be bug magnets. Wanna guess how I know? I've tried them several times & most shipped to me had insects. I don't think they do well w/ dry, indoor heat.
