woah woah woah...never continue to just crank the handle when its sticking like that, that will easily mar and chew gears if they are not correctly meshed together or damage the pawl if that was the cause. First off, the spool is not properly centered in the cage. tighten the backlash compensation knob (the numbered dial that the spring broke off of) and loosen the spool tension knob this will push the spool out of the left side and into the drive side a little bit..you want the top edge of the spool sticking out of the side plates to have the same amount showing on each side when set to "0" .. then get your free spool drop set, then you can fine tune it with the different lures you are using using the numbered dial (both knobs work together) also I'm betting that there are copper shims , and felt pad missing out of the float caps.
sweet! Thanks for that info....I love brands like this that you can actually date Snap-on tools and Case knives are two examples that pop up off the top of my head
I just came across this video and I know it's a irrelevant now but it looks like line is between spool and frame on right side which will make it lightly grab intermittently just as it is doing.
I'll talk to a friend of mine that works on fishing reels I gave him the the numbers that you read out on the bottom of your reel that 5,000 you have he said that real was made in 1970
I wish I knew how to, that is a great skill to have! Back when they made these they made stuff that was able to be repaired if need be, nowadays it is just throw it away!
If you still have that old reel Second Chance tackle may have some parts for it if it needs one it may just need cleaning they have videos on TH-cam how to take them apart and clean them
@@scottdeatherage1810 oh ok thanks, I'm big time into fishing but gave up on baitcasters a long time ago. I'm a big fan of Abu Garcia though I use their spinning reels. What I really like about these older reels is the date stamp etc.

Ahh…thanks for the tip…now it makes more sense!
Put the wire back into cap and screw it on
I know how to take them apart and clean them and fix them

I have a 1972 6,000 Ambassador reel
And the 1980s I could buy them in Galveston Texas for $25 brand new
If we had a time machine we could really make some good money
is this reel still for sale?
No, we sold it a week or so ago. I updated the title.
I got one of these for free today. Made in sweden
If you still have that old reel Second Chance tackle may have some parts for it if it needs one it may just need cleaning they have videos on TH-cam how to take them apart and clean them
Thanks.....we sold it some time ago
Spool is not centered
You really don't need that wire
Center up your spool first
That is NOT the drag.
Which part? the dial on the handle?
@@johnsmith4120-p5k the star on the right side is the drag. The adjustment on the left is a break to help avoid backlash.

It will work perfect without it
Just get a pro to repair it
Would have been a good option but we sold it.
