I believe the story is that the crowd tore the comic before him up. So Bernie took control and showed the crowd he was not the one to be messed with. RIP to the king
I watched this when it came on and when he said "KICK IT"! Kid Capri played Terminator X "Buck Whylin" but on here they play something else? I wonder why?
I saw this years ago when it originally aired. Def Jam was the birth of so many great black comedians. R.I.P. Bernie, 2021 and you're still on our minds.
Like MJ in the 4th quarter… Mac handled that crowd like it was putty in his hands. A true master. No wonder Jerry Seinfeld said he was one of his all-time favorites and possibly TBE.

I definitely pay attention to not only how he says stuff, but even his facial expressions and when he responds to what other people say are punchlines in of themselves. And seeing him on Moesha too he has me crying. One of the funniest to ever do it. RIP.

I remember watching this growing up first coming out. You don't understand. Definitely a rose that grew from the concrete. Into one of the biggest Stars. Thank you Mac.
I remember being at this performance and knew he was gonna be a star , Good thing about it back then, all these shows were free...alot of great comics started on DefJam...
Some people are put on this earth to show us all what is capable. Bernie was one of those people. Although there are great comics, he was at the top of his class. He was loved my many and respected by all his peers. I was fortunate enough to remember this performance when it aired. How lucky are we all to have his legacy live on through social media. He is truly a master among masters. Rest In Peace.

This world needs light. Some people pass and aside from a few tears the world for most stays the same. Then there are those that pass and the world gets a bit darker. Rip Bernie Mac, Rip Patrice Oneal, RIP Charlie Murphy.
This is a classic Bernie Mac bit 😂🤣😂🤣😂. This was probably the one of first Def Comedy Jam episodes I had ever seen. I didn't have cable but saw it at a girl's house I was dating. On the Netflix "Phat Tuesday" doc I think either Chris Tucker or Bill Bellamy were talking about what led up to Bernie having Kid Capri drop the beat on his "kick it" line. Apparently, the previous comic was booed so badly, it was cut from the taping. Bernie Mac wanted to do something to get the crowd back on his side because the vibe was still low after all the booing. So had made arrangements with Kid Capri and "kick it" became synonymous with Bernie Mac in Def Comedy Jam history.
His impact on the culture can never be forgotten. He was and in my memory will always be the biggest King of comedy. For my generation atleast Not to disregard anyone else. Rip Bernie wish you were still here genius comic.
