For those who do not know the background (apologies to those who know most or all of this already!), this wonderful piece from the operetta Die Fledermaus composed by Johann Strauss II, portrays in the libretto (written in German), Adele attending a lavish ball in which she is disguised as an actress as part of a wider plot but in reality is a maid who has borrowed one of her mistresses’ dresses without permission and sings this aria when introduced to her Master who is also at the ball under an assumed identity! Carla's rendition is just stunning and her final note (G#6) personifies the brilliance of her performance. She is, in my humble opinion, one of the best coloratura sopranos around today. I think she has made it her career now to specialise permanently in opera as a top lyric coloratura soprano and no longer performs full time with André Rieu. I should make it my mission to see one of her live performances soon; and so should all those who adore great coloratura sopranos like this fine and very talented lady.

I must emphasize that at least two Brazilians are among the André Rieu's company: Carla and Carmen Monarcha, another wonderful voice! Carla Maffioletti strides out and is very confident and she effortlessly delivers the goods. The orchestra is superb and the Maestro's tempo and conducting is perfect. What makes this a fantastic great performance is the rapport between Carla Maffioletti and the Maestro Andre Rieu. They make it so fun to watch and listen to, just like it's supposed to be. I've seen other takes on this piece and I do not see the rapport between the singer and the conductor such as we have here.

Even after listening to Carla again, years later, she still is tops. Moreover, she is a whole show in herself. The ease with which she produces those surreal high notes is mind-boggling.
I am not an opera master, but from what I hear from Carla, I can listen to her 24/7 with pleasure, she is lovely, she puts everything in such a beauty, I can say if there is a God, thank you for such a beautiful voice fallen from the heavens.
