I think Hypnowaves main weakness is that the overall difficulty curve of the game is fairly low so it is very rarely needed. It's just more fun to blast groups with various AoE techs, single or multi member and a lot of the time that is deadly enough to make crowd control unnecessary since they die to it and the game does not punish you for using them liberally by having overly high MP costs.
Yeah, a lot of the support stuff in this game is hampered by the fact that the game is very easy and you can kill enemies extremely fast without them. It's the reason why a character like Marle, whose main utility is helping other party members moreso than dishing out damage, really falls behind the others.
@@JoelBurger I mean, Marle's magic attacks are pretty great though. Plus, her healing techs are essential in the late game, so she was always a mainstay in my party.
@@ninakrishnamurthy6674 Her healing is inferior in every way to Robo by virtue of having no multi-target healing on her own. Her attacks likewise pale in comparison to what characters like Crono, Robo, and Ayla can put out. Her only real standout trait is having Haste, but that goes back to my original point all those years ago: you don't need Haste to kill things faster, because the game is easy enough to where you're already killing things fast enough.
@@JoelBurger Robo’s speed is really slow, though. Plus, Marle’s Dual Techs with Lucca are some of the best in the game, and I almost never use regular attacks. I usuallly just screen nuke the enemies every turn cuz it makes the battles faster.
@@ninakrishnamurthy6674 All it takes is a couple speed tabs to remedy that. And using dual techs with Lucca means you're wasting two characters' turns to deal damage that is comparable to what other characters (again, like Crono, Robo, and Ayla) can do on their own and quicker.
