Mt.Tohmi is a popular mountain among the mountains in Kawabe Town, known for its exposed rocky surfaces that make for a challenging climb. It is also said that the Shimoaso Castle once stood on Mt.Tohmi, and remnants such as the castle pond still remain at the summit, where the former castle ruins can be seen. The view overlooking Kawabe Town from the summit is spectacular. Mt.Tohmi is called the "Grand Canyon of Gifu" due to the view from Miharashi Rock.
Nanten Falls is a straight waterfall with a drop of about 20 meters, located in the valley on the south side of Mt.Tohmi, spanning the Higo River, a tributary of the Hida River. The name "Nanten" was given because there were many Nandina trees naturally growing around the waterfall. It is also referred to as "Tenshi Falls," named after the legend that Emperor Keikō, father of Yamato Takeru, bathed there. From the Edo period to the Taisho period, tourism development around Nanten Falls progressed, and records show that there were many restaurants lined up.
