Hi nat, I'm a krav maga student, My russian instructor has years of experience in boxing and karate, I'm soo thankful that you did a video about krav maga, And in the side of the defence, I will say that the video with the wrist lock is farely rare for Krav Maga, I showed my instructor some Wrist lock moves that i learned and he said (Like you) that no one will just let you flip him, So i can calm you with the fact that the "Akido" stuff is very rare, And about the BJJ, Krav mage uses simple techniques even on the ground, We are not trained in the "Art" of ground game, We just practice things that can help us to get up from the ground and run (It's the best not to get to the ground when you fighting multiple opponents or someone with a weapon, And about the first video, Our coach makes us mma style days when we fighting purley like mma, We have head movement, Footwork and punches like boxing, And when it comes for the low, Kicks, Roundhouses, Knees and Elbows, We practicing VERY similar to muay thai, And with all of the other kicks, KARATE 🤟
And we do throat strikes, But no way near the way the guy in the video did it, We do Open hand bow strikes (And we do strike to the groin, Nose, Teeth and liver, We also stomp on the enemy's foot) Some Krav maga practicioners only do self defense, Me and a lot more practice self defense with dirty tactics AND mma fighting with what i mentiond before, Sorry for the long Comment, I hope you read all of this, And i LOVE to see you do more videos About Krav maga and find out what krav maga really is (And even add them to the Martial arts conversation\Shorts😉)

Been training and teaching Krav Maga for 20 years. I also teach Taekwondo and BJJ. What people forget when they discuss whether or not Krav Maga is effective is that the term "Krav Maga" translates to contact combat, which is incredibly vague. This is important because that means there isn't always uniformity within the art. I have seen people teach Krav Maga very akin to what I learned and teach, but then sometimes I'll see Krav Maga that is wildly different from anything I'd learned under that banner.
Every single martial art in existence has good teachers and bad teachers, including some of the most universally acclaimed martial arts like boxing, wrestling, BJJ, etc. The thing is, since many of those arts are also sports, the ruleset of those sports gives the art some level of uniformity, even if the quality of instruction isn't always equal. Since Krav Maga is not a sport, this means you can just kind of teach anything and call it Krav Maga.
At the end of the day, the Krav Maga I learned is an amalgamation of many martial arts. Boxing, muay thai, wrestling, BJJ, etc. Most Krav people aren't as good at boxing as boxers are, but if they learned from a good teacher, they have a broad understanding of all aspects of a fight, rather than being a specialist in one. Which the same can be said of MMA atheletes, which is essentially what Krav Maga is. MMA, without the competitive component.
Real self defense situations rarely play out anything like an organized sport fight and another aspect of good Krav Maga training is going to be decision making and tactics. The objective isn't necessarily to win, but to not die and get away. That said, when push comes to shove, you need to be able to fight and that's why any good Krav Maga school should offer sparring. Sparring tends to look similar to MMA. Punches, kicks, takedowns, etc. just with things like groin kicks removed.
This is a long winded post, but to anyone curious about it the key takeaways would be:
    1. Krav Maga is a generic term, which makes quality control very difficult.
    2. Krav students tend to not be specialists like boxers, wrestlers, etc. but have a broad and general understanding of all aspects of a fight.
    3. Sparring is necessary for any martial art to translate into something effective.

We train for every type of scenarios, specially me, I’m a girl, I have to train for every type of body type or scenarios cause late at night you don’t know what you are going to face. We also do a lot of sparring and trains with weapons such as knives or (fake but still realistic) guns. Thing about krav maga is they don't have a curriculum. Krav maga is whatever your local master says it is. Originally krav maga come from the israeli army, but the thing about real army/special forces combat systems is that they presume that you allways carry a knife, and various firearms and also that you always have a bunch of your friends with your, also armed to the teeth. Close quarters combat becomes very different then. In most situations you just want to get at your opponent before he fires his weapon, and then control the weapon for like 5 seconds while your friends swarm or shoot the guy. If it works for the street it needs to be something entirely different from the original art.

I teach Krav Maga for two years now and I am doing it for 12 years. A few of my toughts:
-If you want to learn how to fight you’ll go fastest with Krav Maga. We will teach you everything from boxing, to kicking, to grappeling, defence against weapons,…
-Krav Maga is very good in teaching the basics. We are not however specialists, that is not what we are about. I’ll train you to be decent in everything but if you want to be an exellent boxer, go to a boxing gym as well.
    - Krav Maga takes a lot of color from the person teaching it. Some gyms are great, others suck because the trainer never did anything else than Krav Maga. I myself have a background in Muay Thai as well, my collegue has a black belt in judo. This is crucial in my view. Krav Maga is all about taking the best from everything and combining it.
-A good club traines for different scenarios and in a realistic way. You go slow at first but than you pick up the pase and really try to kill your opponent with the training knive;). Put out the lights, go outside for a change, put on some loud music, use a shock knife, surprise them by playing out an actual scenario and see what they do.
-Pay attention with trainers who think they know everything and want it done their way. I still learn from some of my students and that is just fine by me.
    - and finally, the best part about Krav Maga is the mindset. You got to learn to really want to take out your opponent and you can not mind how you do it. Kicking in the balls, fingers in their eyes, hitting him with a chair,… it is all possible and allowed;).

I'm no expert but trained some japanese jujitsu. About the wrist lock throw stuff, what I know for having tested it, is that people won't be thrown away like in the video but, if the wrist has been locked, he has no choice but to follow you. If not, the wrist is gone... In demos, the partner follows by being thrown away because it's the easiest way to avoid the wrist to be broken with such a speed...and it looks better too :p

I know from firsthand experience that Krav Maga works because I had a gun pulled on me by a drug addict. I also trained under Roy Elghanayan (the guy in the last video), and the techniques he demonstrated are only for show. Also, Roy is a high-ranked black belt in Jujitsu, so he incorporates Jujitsu techniques in his demonstrations to be fancy. But he does not teach this way in his classes. Krav Maga fundamentally teaches how to defend yourself and neutralize the threat as fast and brutally as possible. Like every other martial art, Krav Maga has its flaws, and I would recommend anyone to cross-train in a fighting sport, i.e., MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai/Kickboxing, to get that constant pressure testing from sparring that Krav Maga lacks.

I think one thing Krav Maga teaches you well is the fact that it encourages you to quickly deliver strikes and get out of the scene, but in terms of martial arts it’s enough for a surprise strike but not good for a proper sparring under any specific martial art rules in the ring. My boxing coach tells me all the time that my punching skill is way too mixed he has to fix me with lots of effort.
And for street fight palm strike is the safest option, finger knifing is a terrible idea😂

Krav Maga is NOT a martial art. It is a combative system. It is not like karate, muay thai or, taekwondo. There is not supposed to be an exchange of strikes, between opponents. It is supposed to be more one-sided - neutralising an assailant as quickly and as effectively as possible. Krav Maga is a combative for reality based scenarios, whether in war or 'on the street'.

At the beginning I couldn’t fight for sh*t 💀 now however, I can have taken down fully grown adults (mostly family members/family friends when I have a fair spa and two of them being power lifters). Even in school if anyone had ever tried to start something I have de-escalated the situation in seconds. (Didn’t hurt any of them as I didn’t want to but I can take them down/ various grab defences). Also It is a mix of Aikido, Boxing, Judo, Karate, Wrestling, etc. Athough other martial arts are really really good and effective, I can also beat mates who have been training in different martial arts for the same time as me. One more thing, I have just seen Nat mention this, but yes, it is made to focus on simple but effective solutions to get out of the situations as quickly as possible and also to make sure the other person is seriously hurt (or at least making sure your attack is equal to what the other person is doing if that makes sence lmao)

There are some good and simple moves, but you can get all of that in Karate, Ju Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickbox. In my opinion the problem with Krav Maga techniques, at least what I've seen on these videos, is there is no resistance from the enemy, not a single counter-action, which is highly unrealistic. Basically its like Aikido, where the enemy is patiently waiting until you're finishing your techniques, but that's highly unrealistic. Every single action move of yours will have a counter move.

    • @GabrielKlippel-o8m

I mean it's supposed to be a demonstration right? The problem with actually showing these kind of techniques full strenght and speed seems to me a 100% injury risk, just like in Aikido you have all these twists and pressure against ligaments and joints doesn't seen healthy at all...
Also you mentioned some martial arts but none of them actually gives you the street smartness Krav Maga does, concepts like environment knowledge, situational reading, crowd analysis, riot control and even criminal psychology are things you'll never hear about in a combat sports class because it's not their main objective... Now during self-defense training it's more like you to have contact with this kind of study and get deepen into concepts like that along with the combat drills if you go for a legit self-defense school, whatever martial art it is.

There was also some training were I had to walk down an alley once or twice and I was randomly attacked. I didn't know who would attack me or how. Despite all this, I still highly recommend Krav Maga, it's like a crash course on survival. I started martial arts looking for a Krav school and finding a karate teacher who also taught Krav Maga. I learned both karate and Krav Maga for a while, and I must say, while Krav certainly has some strengths as an art, it is also very lacking. It lacks good pressure testing, with most practice being done is non resistant drills. It does teach a good mindset for self defence, but I don’t think it has much value against a more focused fighting style, such as boxing or BJJ. It’s good for an average bum that doesn’t know how to fight in whatever field you are fighting in, but it lacks any speciality. I also find it might be a bit delusional in certain places, as it advocates an incredible amount of knife and gun disarms, which, to be frank, aren’t going to work against a real opponent. I personally find karate to be a better art for me, but Krav taught me some good things about physical aggressiveness whilst fighting (going on the offensive with simple techniques to finish a fight as soon as possible for example). I would say that as a whole, the art is effective, but only against people that aren’t very experienced or good at fighting. And especially not against people with weapons.

Ofcurse disarming a gun or a knife its hard and the first thing they teach is that if ypur opponent has a weapon you are gonna get injured 99% but their teaching you how to get injured less and even maybe injure your opponent more. And if you put a krav maga fighter and karate or boxing fighter vs somone with a knife the krav maga fighter will have more chance to survive than the others. Many krav maga school are based on the fact that you have time and reflexes to think, chose and execute a predetermined moveset in time to defend yourself, but we know that in reality it's almost impossible to do that. One serious krav maga teacher I know here on youtube always tells his students that what he teaches is not guaranteed to work 100%(you must try to defend yourself but keep in mind life is unfair and you may or may not succeed). He also minimized the moveset to make it broader, so you won't have to think "it's a right punch so I defend with the right punch counter technique", but you can apply the tecnique for differnt attacks and you train to do it faster and faster

When someone pushing with 2 hands usually goes on the chest line , if you see it coming in time you can slap the arms apart from inside so the force get directed off you and they lose balance and fall forward towards you. Because your arms inside your attacker you can strike body and face (inside fighting)
If you can't avoid the push, as you step back, use the rear leg to stop and launch yourself forward like sprinters at start.
Most of the time you will have no time to step away like in the demonstration, because you don't know what happens before hand.

Krav Maga will not be useful in the arena because its moves are illegal (hits to the groin, throat, eyes and all kinds of other sensitive places) but in a street fight it is one of the most effective and why? Because it is built for the military, then the art is specialized against weapons and against dangers in the fastest way possible. And the principle of Krav Maga is not the first thing to run away if possible because if it comes to a situation where your opponent has a weapon then 99% you will get injured and the whole goal of Krav Maga is that you get injured as little as possible, and the guy with the green shirt doesnt do krav maga

I learnt Krav Maga for about 10 months under one of the IKMF affiliated schools. Quit it recently a month or two ago. Some of the techniques do work like getting out of chokeholds and headlocks if you pressure test it enough, however the striking was lackluster to say the least. The kicking and punching is basically the same as any kickboxing MMA style, they have elbows and knees as well. My biggest issue is that the amount of sparring was very less. In total of the 10 months I learnt it, we only properly sparred only about 10-12 times. I feel like I've gotten what I wanted out of it, now I'll go join Muay Thai or proper MMA.

Actually, it was created by a Hungarian guy, named Imre Lichtenfeld, who then taught it to the Israelis after he moved to Israel. But it's not an Israeli invention. He developed all these things back in the 1930s, when he was a boxer in Hungary. But as a Hungarian, I would say its not as effective as it is advertised, but its a bit overrated, as many techniques seem to be like against a static enemy, not a dynamic enemy, which how fights actually goes in the reality.

okay, just so you know, that disarm was not a throw or a toss.
you roll with the manuver so the person doing it, can practice it in real world context, without snapping your training partners arm.
does that make sense? essentially, what they are doing, is spinning the arm beyond which it is meant to, and snapping it like a twig.
another example, is twisting the stem out of an apple....or, twisting the wing off of a chicken....
trust me, if i did that to you, you would be in the hospital and not training for six months, as your arm would be shattered.
you know in BJJ how they tap, because they are submissions.
you cannot tap from this, it is not a submission, its essentially bending somebodys fingers to the back of their hand and twisting.
or, hyper extending a knee with a teep kick.
these arent submissions, its just a move designed to literally dismember your opponent.

I saw a lot of teachers in the comments , but I am just a student with a yellow belt... I compare Krav Maga a lot to Star Wars Forms , you have 7 forms (karate etc. ) which to me are like dance and death when you look at it and visually it looks good and it works... Then you have a style that borrows the easy stuff and makes it into a quickie... Krav Maga looks almost illegal to those who do Martial Arts (which is kind of true, no rules) because you commonly see leg kicks, toes to the eyes etc. It's all about defending yourself and stopping the attacker from getting up and attacking, so yes, there will be a broken nose, but it will live... The attacker will not come out alive if they attack with a knife, gun etc. Here we will determine mainly the definition of wounding, disarming and subsequent mercylessness, when is it more likely that the mercilessness.... This can happen within , I wouldn't be afraid to say 5 seconds at most , whether the knife is under the neck , attacking from the side , aiming at the body from medium range or from behind... It is certainly effective , just not in the arena where you have rules. Krav Maga can be used against poles, drunks... But as others have pointed out here, a lot of it comes down to the coach and their experience, I have a great one who knows what he's doing and doesn't want any complicated stuff. Krav Maga seems to me a bit like a preparation for other martial arts, it's all about being able to defend yourself in the shortest possible time and, most importantly, anyone can do it, whether you're 8 years old or 50. After all, it's for the Army, which speaks for its quality, doesn't it?

Krav maga absolutely works but it has glaring holes, and some of its defences are silly or overcomplicated.
Asking "does Krav maga work?" is like asking "Does karate work?" What style of karate? Who is doing it? In which situation? Watching a couple of beginners doing it is hardly a fair test.
The massive flaw in Krav Maga is that it's unapologetically, relentlessly commercial. It can also be dangerously inflexible in its defences. The fact that it had at least one major break away should tell you something.

i won that fight. mainly because i wouldnt let go till the dude stopped stomping me.
dad taught me to make sure you see the fear of god in their eyes before you are done with them, and i did.
but seriously, do a video where somebody grabs you by the ear. see what, if anything, you can do about it.

You know it is like krav maga but also it is a way of fight and has too many mental benefits too.

well you've made a mistake by comparing krav maga to martial arts because it is not a Martial art. not is it a sport. it's pure self defense created in the 30's by a street man for street use

Isreali Defense Force trains in it. It must work. Highly doubtful that they are wasting time training their soliders with it if it doesn't.
