Pawleys was the go-to place for me when I moved to Georgetown in 2017 to marry my husband. He was born and raised in, and served as a policeman in Georgetown. He brought me to the south end for my first view of the ocean and we came back regularly for sunsets and rises. His brother-in-law built (and in some cases, after hurricanes, re-built) many of the docks on the marsh side. The whole area is beautiful and full of warm, friendly people. The beach re-nourishment that began in late 2019/early 2020 was much needed but left the south end looking drastically different than my pictures of our visits. I have seen dolphins playing just offshore and been privileged to share the beach with a friendly Great Blue Heron there. I caused a few locals to question my sanity when I'd go ankle-deep into the water in 30 degree weather but being a Michigander, it didn't bother me. :) My husband died in 2020 and I've only been able to go back and visit once since; this video brings tears but also wonderful memories, thank you.
Visited 50 years ago as a kid at a house on the beach..retirement community next door with a pier...so much fun fishing...so much better than Myrtle..thanks for the memories 😊
We had a house on Pawleys Island growing up. Our house was just a small cottage in the center of the island. When I was a kid us 17 didn’t have anything except the Hammock Shop, Marlowe’s grocery store and Lachcotte’s grocery store at the south causeway entrance if I remember correctly. There were a few small restaurants at Murrells Inlet. I remember Ebb n Nell’s breakfast. My grandfather passed away my senior year in high school and the family fought so much over the house we had to sell it outside the family. The pier was public with a big fish house and my dad would take me there and get me an orange soda when I was little. When the pier was sold to a developer it changed the tight knit feel of the area. Everyone knew each other there. I live on a beautiful beach now much further south. It’s much more upscale but Pawleys Island still has magical memories. I’ve been to every Island in the Carribean but Pawleys will always be the real beach. I have been back but would rather remember it as it was 50 years ago.
My step-son lives in myrtle Beach area, when we visited him 2yrs ago on memorial day, we drove to pallets Island and murrels inlet.....never again. It's beautiful but dang! The tourists kills the vibe.
Small detail, much of the unincorporated territory is also called pawleys island. It’s really only called Litchfield around the intersection of ocean highway and kings river road.
My Grandmother lived on the Waccamaw River and we traveled every summer to go to PI to visit and vacation (actually we go to Litchfied Beach. Every year I come back I just can’t believe all the development and traffic!
@@Shroom747 it's sad. I moved here in like 2000 as a kid. I can remember when I started driving it taking like 20 minutes to get from pi to myb now its about an hour.
My son an i stay in garden city its cheaper but last year we decided to go to pawleys island on the south end an just loved it so much went back for another day😁 I hope that you all can keep it the way it is now, i don't want it to change! Not happy with the greed going on these days with development ect... it has happened in my not so small town any more that I've lived in for 49 years, i totally get what's going on 🙏❣
Thank you! Your information will help me to construct an imaginary, fantasy-oriented modern Village between Pawley's Island and Murrells Inlet. Invaluable information to support a place I've been constructing in my mind for years!
Probably should call it Brookgreen after the Brookgreen gardens that takes up most of the area. There is also garden city and surf side between pawleys and murrells inlet
I live in next town over Murrells Inlet and PI is a wealthy southern uppity spot with a beach and restaurants and nothing more. If you want energy or interesting people it’s not your spot because it’s super slow
The tag line says “one of the best kept secrets on the Atlantic coast”… How the hell do you expect it to stay a secret? There is very little parking and we don’t want you here. Stay in Myrtle Beach!
So you’re saying there’s no houses on the oceanfront between Pollys Island and Charleston. I think you need to look at a map before you make such a bold statement. Honesty is the best policy, especially in real estate.
Just moved here from San Diego and bought a house. Love the area as it reminds us of SoCal back in the 70’s. There aren’t any freeways coming into the area so this area will probably still grow but grow slowly.
Please stop telling people about our hidden slice of paradise. Please tell them how horrible it is, horrible people, horrible food, horrible beaches, horrible traffic, just plain horrible 😂😂 Thanks !

I appreciate these travels when I’m not able to. Thank you!
Beautiful place. We are thinking about retiring in the grandstrand area. Some place away from the tourists areas like little river or conway
Seems like this would be the perfect spot!
Everything coastal and south of the Garden City pier is $$$$$$$
Pawleys is definitely a tourist spot.
go to Conway please
Beautiful area. Thank you for sharing. 😊❤

No

You can’t be serious. Population in Waccamaw Neck has tripled in 10 years!
TH-cam really ruins hot spots
I'm sure that 590 views really made millions of people want to head over to Pawleys Island and trash it.
@@ChrisHarden That's up to 4.4K now. More exposure than you admit

Enjoy it while it lasts. The ocean will be reclaiming PI in the not so distant future. Surrounded by water on both sides.
Hhahaha….. sure
Boring
Please noooo more people
Problem is that it’s in South Carolina. Pass.
and we thank you
