    I check all the connections on the for ranger 96 to change to a universal switch ,the only Two wires that didi NOT give continuity where the Ground ,and P1 AND p2 (witch are both connected ) I still connect all the rest of cables to the ignition side of the switch, it work But it let me wonder about the function of those 3 cables, any ideas?

    How do I know if it’s the ignition switch or something else that’s gone bad?

    • @alittleofalot5171

      @speedoflynn This video shows you how to check the ignition switch, if you check continuity between all those point and you have it then your switch is good and it’s something else. There could be many different things not working depending on what exactly your truck is doing. Good luck!

    I own a 1997 Mustang, and the plastic piece responsible for moving the internal operating lever that you explained was broken, and now I need to replace the entire piece, which is considered very expensive and is not available in my country. Can I merge the positive wires and replace the key with regular buttons like a racing car?

    • @sergiojardon6725
      @sergiojardon6725 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you need to see if they merge BEFORE they get in to the switch. IF they are ALL positive and receive current at the same time , you may be able to do it.

    Mechanic just diagnosed my Headlights on and No Brake lights...Headlights off and good brake lights to a bad ignition switch on 1979 F350. Is this even possible?? Mechanic changed ignition switch and now all lights working as they should.

      @rusty-gf6gp I would suggest getting the Haynes repair manual for ford pickups that includes your year. I believe it would be ford pickups / broncos years 1973-1979. There are a lot of helpful wiring diagrams in the back of those manuals. If the mechanic replaced the ignition switch and now the lights work properly, I would say he diagnosed it correctly.

    I have a 1992 e350 a friend replaced the ignition switch now there's no spark. What could be the problem. The engine turns but no spark.

    My truck is stuck in park with a no crank no start. If i turn the key part way itll let me shift into neutral and then it'll start right up but it'll get stuck in park again. Any ideas? 99. f350. I think this is about the only part i havent replaced yet

    A Challange, my dash, radio and window die every now and then, then, come back on a few miles later. Cold start would go 50 miles before dieing then come back on 30 miles later?? Could this be the ignition Switch??

    • @alittleofalot5171
      @alittleofalot5171  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mclc4327 I’m not exactly sure what the second sentence means but I don’t think it sound like your ignition switch. Perhaps a loose ground or frayed positive wire that is grounding out. Check a wiring diagram and see if they share a common wire.

    I'm getting continuity on I1-B5 but ALL the others in the START list aren't showing continuity. Is that possible or should only one pair not work? Truck accessories (lights, radio) come on when key is in ignition and turned to accessories probably cause continuity? The metal slide on switch I marked original spot and slid all the way down for START tests, and up for ACC. Truck doesn't start half the time. Battery, alternator, starter tested good. Battery post/cables good. Truck battery indicator on dash is on when key is in ignition. '98 Ranger. TIA

      @connorgtz7634 I think it sounds unlikely that so many wouldn’t be working properly. I just want to make sure when you are checking the start continuity you are holding the metal slide all the way down into the start position. (The metal slide will not stay in the start position, it has to be held there) I1-B5 should also have continuity in the run position which is one of the resting positions of the pin.

      @@alittleofalot5171 Happy St Patrick’s, thanks for responding.
      Ah, didn’t realize had to really pull on the slide for START position. Retested while holding: STA +B4 and P1+GRD don’t have continuity (no beep) the rest listed do. So, with those 2 combos not working the truck not starting could be this…? I1+B5 does have continuity in I think is the RUN position. Not sure how to correlate the ignition cylinder position to the sliding metal pin. My manual doesn’t have a diagram for the switch and no luck on Google.
      If the metal slide is all the way forward past B4 that is ACC correct? LOCK is next to B4 pin, OFF is between B4 and Start pins? RUN is closer to START pin, and pulling/holding is START?
      Big thanks again

    • @alittleofalot5171
      @alittleofalot5171  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@connorgtz7634 yes, in order for the truck to start there needs to be continuity between each pair. I would say your ignition switch needs to be replaced. Also, you are correct, the metal slide positions goes ACC, lock, off, run, then hold down for start. I hope this helps.

    Will my fuel pump come on if this switch is not working properly?

      @alittleofalot5171  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @joshAU44 I have never had my fuel pump not turn on before so I’m not sure. However there are wiring diagram in that manual. I’m sure it shows you where the fuel pump connects. If I have time I will check that for you.
