Very nice to see and hear. What I'm remembering of this session is that you should never be afraid to go back, discard stuff no matter how much you liked it in the first place. And experiment (and have fun creating) with everything!
Love this stuff! I have my eye on the Arturia collection. Hoping it will go on sale soon. Thanks for sharing your creative process! It's inspirational!
Got Pigments some time ago while looking for something that could be fed samples and this with comb filter changed everything for me. You can literally put anything and change it to something completely different. Arpegiator is also massive thing in this. I was thinking about getting Phase Plant (please cover it!) and Zebra 2 but honestly - if Pigments is the easiest of them all then I'm all fine!
Love the sound of the Fairliight. From Peter Gabriel to numerous soundtracks(Full Metal Jacket). Will have to get it one day.Good to see how you might work. Thanks
Hi there Guy, I just ordered the stream deck and am wondering if you have already made a video on how to program it like you did. I am at the 3X20 + stage of life and can use a bit of simplicity to stay focused and mostly enjoy making music via the digital world. I use Logic pro 11 so I imagine the setup process would be different from Cubase.
great bunch of videos you have. Its great that artists are here on TH-cam offering advise and tips for us learning. I was sort of interested in the StreamDeck you are using. I had heard of them but really didn't know much of what they actually do. I am curious as to why you went that route. I will admit to pausing the video and doing a blown up screen shot of your menu to try and figure out what other functions that you have on the device to see what use it is for. I guess it can be as simple as having all your keyboard shortcuts defined to a button, but in some cases to do more like a macro mutiltple key press functions. Just wondering if you could expend on what functions it does do and why you've got them on the device. BTW, the Arturia KeyLab is a great keyboard. I have a MK3 61 key on backorder and hopefully mine will come in the next month. I am looking forward to moving up to a better class of midi keyboard.
@Guy - I think I've asked on one of your other videos, but I'm very interested in the profiles for Cubase that you have loaded onto your Streamdeck. I have a Streamdeck with 32 buttons and one of the newer ones with the 8 buttons, the swipe strip, and 4 knobs/buttons. Are those buttons on yours all programmed by you, or is it a commercially-available packaged preset? If it's yours, do you feel like sharing the Streamdeck files with your subscribers??? Pretty please???? ;)
I would have happily watched you explore the V Collection X for another few hours. I especially liked this vid because you used synths that I know and love and the synth-driven music was more down my alley than orchestral music is, (even though I love that too). Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Hans Zimmer et al are using synths a hell of a lot in their scores so there's definitely a lot of interest in them in the community. I vehemently request more dabblings in the world of synths. The distorted Jupiter 8 was sounding lush and really brought everything together.
@@ThinkSpaceEducation A Rendez-Vous reprise would be appreciated. Perhaps a vid that references JMJ would go down well with synth-heads. Jarre's music is the reason why I love synths.
Prob never meet you in real life but just glad I can share life sorta interacting with you For the fun, creativity, having laugh at self and all that Hope you have great day!
How about making a video on Pigments only? It seems to me being one of the most comprehensive and complete v-synths out there, even if it's quite articulate and complex
Hello 👋 Hey, I really like your profile picture and if you let me, I would make such an amazing mural out of it! If you don’t mind one of your pictures could be my inspiring muse for an art project i’m working on for a client. You will totally get paid for it as well as a bonus also get credits.
It was much more than "mildly entertaining" Guy. I have about a trillion things to do today, but my instincts told me to stop and watch. There were actually many surprising and helpful nuggets. I gained much more than I expected, inspiration was not the least of them. I have the Arturia V9 and the first version of Pigments. I was thinking of upgrading it to the current one and you just might have pushed me over the edge. You're right, it is a great synth. I have UVI Falcon, u-he Hive and Omnisphere 2, but Pigments has some great surprises when you get into it, while those others seem to be a bit more predictable. I know, it's all subjective, but I love this stuff! ha.
Ron Hey, I really like your profile picture and if you let me, I would make such an amazing mural out of it! If you don’t mind one of your pictures could be my inspiring muse for an art project i’m working on for a client. You will totally get paid for it as well as a bonus also get credits.
Well Evelyn, thank you for the compliment first of all. I'm not sure I can handle the idea of my face as the subject of a mural! But I'd need to know how you might portray me (the setting, etc). I have some very good reasons for being wary, of which I would rather not elaborate at this time.
You should try the Harrison mix channel on these sorts of sounds, to narrow the hard hitting high frequency peaks. Compared to the real thing the upper frequencies are far too wide, and lack the simple purity of classic synths. The Harrison eq formula is a good antidote to digital sounding synths, although not a perfect solution.

Always love you vids buds, Please come on the Pro Synth Network Show and talk about your work please. I did ask Ty to ask you but he’s never got the time.
The result is ambient and beautiful, especially your tin whistle. I think that there's an art to sound design - the balance between something subtle and musical vs contrived and unintentionally discordant. Pigments is an amazing synth, so many possibilities! The sequencer engine combined with various randomisations can result in hypnotising one-note ambience. Here is an example: th-cam.com/video/uwglO3mcpQc/w-d-xo.html In this song, the main ambience is literally one-note one patch, with various random and macro-controlled modulations. And the sea is where I live in Bournemouth, shoved through a load of effects to make it sound 'other-worldly'.
The synth soundscapes you created with the modeled old synths sounded like it would belong to a children's program back in the late 80's early 90's socially democratic nordic headspace.
How does commercial use of these work? Is it considered NOT my work if I release song with these plugins? Sorry new to this and answers are becoming tough to find these days (aside from walls of text from distributors which are largely created to protect them not us). To be clear, I fully recognize the reality that 90% of streaming revenue is made by 1% of musicians. I don't care about MAKING MONEY as MUCH as I care about being sued.
It’s no different to people back in the day who used the synth presets on the hardware. You’re more than fine! That’s like sueing someone for using a specific phone camera, see it doesn’t make sense? Your all good
@ThinkSpaceEducation I love your openness to feedback 😊 Although I do agree with the original comment, and I do want more silly composition videos, please don't get rid of these completely. You have led me to some hidden gems I would have never considered. These are 100% appreciated.
I think this type of vid is very helpful when I am considering adding a new instrument/plug etc. Only suggest that you maybe distinguish product demos from other contact with a different banner on the videos.
Guy, I already have a sync for your composition: Drone images of a rain forest and bamboos, voice: "Soft and tender... Discover our new bubble bath from the other side of the Earth! Organic scents, oil of pangolin harvested by virgin maids and rain forest tears.... Ushooyaya, the tender bubble bath, for you now... Ushooyaya.... At only 9.99! " Then packshot. Cut. P&G and Tesco should call you this week.

Excellent video as always Guy. Thank you!
Guy, I truly appreciate the inspiration.
Pigments is my absolute favorite synth, nice to see it getting some love!
Took me a while but is both powerful and comparatively simple to programme

That CS80 instantly takes you to the 'blade runner' dystopia. Love it!!
yes and so many other soundtracks of the time
Great to see what controls on the synths you go for first. Im a guitarist, so I have a step curve with synths..

I programme them - its dead simple but it means tying up a key command, often a custom one in Cubase with the streamdeck but after that its a doddle
one of the pads I like in there is "12 Partials Pad" on the Synclavier V, for that Eno Dune drone effect just play A C A low down
Oooo I must try that

I think the Mac startup sound was the Sandman patch on the Korg Wavestation.

thats a good observation thank you
Hi Guy, I really like all these instruments. Is there a bundle that I can get, like you are demonstrating? Is it a specific bundle name?
Most of instruments are part of the Arturia V Collection. Pigments is a separate product.
Rent to own on splice. Got 1 payment left. Yey.

Amazes me how odd sounds I would not use turn out so well

Is there a more iconic sound than "Sararr" on the Fairlight?
Nope!
