Pharrell Explains How "Happy" Happened, Meeting Oprah & Working With Teddy Riley, & Tribe

- Pharrell stopped by Sway in the Morning today and brought his good vibes with him. He opened up about the Happy record and how it happened.
"I wrote that song because it was a positive part in the [Despicable] movie." Skateboard P tells Sway.
He elaborates in saying it took 9 times to get the song right -- then it hit radio and exploded in a positive way.
"Why me, and why now. I knew that [the success of Happy] was none of my doing." Praising God while in-studio.
He goes on to speak on meeting Oprah for his one-on-one interview with her, saying that she is has an "incredible force."
Pharrell also mentions being diverse in his music. From working with Brittany Spears -- being introduced to her from her then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake -- to Teddy Riley and SWV.
"I'm inspired by what doesn't exist. If it does exist, it needs to be flipped or in another color. You go in [studio] for unique and undeniable."

I wish him and Chad would do another Neptunes album with that signature sound they had during the early 2000s.
I would've also enjoyed this interview just as much if they continued to go through the evolution of The Neptunes production and discussed in depth with Pharrell's insight on the process of creating the beat/hook. I also wish they'd talk about how him and Chad came up with the Neptunes sound.

Crazy how we could feel like we know our favorite singers so well when we havent actually met them. And I like the way Pharrell just has a calm vibe. No big head. Like he would embrace anyone.
Say what you want about Pharrell's music, but the industry needs more people like him. Reflected, humble, sees think from different perspectives and well spoken. And he got classics on classics when it comes to production. I like the fact that he pays tribute to ATCQ and Brand Nubian too.

Sway, you my main nigga on the trigga, but you was asking him about the wrong songs of his from the past (except Slave 4 U). Would of loved to hear him go back and talk about producing songs like "Pass The Courvoisier" or "Knock Yourself Out" or shit he did with Mystikal, Ludacris, Usher, Fabolous, Clipse, Justin Timberlake etc. Songs that really showcase that Neptunes sound I love.
